Do you really fall for this meme? It's the same quality as all others.

Any metal will do that when it's thin as paper.

Military Grade = lowest bidder
It's like you haven't gone on /k/ before

It's like deja vu vu all over again!

Seriously, get some new material.
>>

It's still aluminum.

>Military Grade = lowest bidder
I want this meme to end. Military grade means it fulfills whatever requirements the military demanded. The military sets out some rules and says "Your shit must be at least this good." THEN the bidding wars start and it's made by the lowest bidder. It still has to meet the specs though, Colt famously lost all their military contracts for the M4/M16 a couple years ago because they went too cheap in the manufacturing.

There was a huge crash at LeMans in the 50's/60's that resulted in flaming carnage because of a Mercedes Benz 300SL's (iirc) body was made of magnesium.

It did not end well. Look it up.
>>
>>14508800
When the rear section of the car landed on the embankment, the fuel tank exploded. The ensuing fuel fire raised the temperature of the remaining Elektron bodywork past its ignition temperature, which was lower than other metal alloys due to its high magnesium content. The alloy burst into white-hot flames, sending searing embers onto the track and into the crowd. Rescue workers, totally unfamiliar with magnesium fires, poured water on the inferno, greatly intensifying the fire. As a result, the car burned for several hours. Official accounts put the death total at 84 (83 spectators plus Levegh), either by flying debris or from the fire, with a further 120 injured. Other observers estimated the toll to be much higher.[2] Whatever the total, it was the most catastrophic accident in Motorsport history.

>Military grade means it fulfills whatever requirements the military demanded
No. That's called milspec. Or military specification.
Military grade does not exist. Especially in metals where there is an alloy ratinging.
The military DOES NOT manufacture alloys. Not do they grade or rate them.
The military has literally nothing to do with metal production at all.
If the military wants a certain metal then that metal type will be listed in the milspec report.
>>
>>14508816
Didn't this same happen (with less victims) with a Honda F1 car as well in the 60's?

>>
>>14509066
He's correct, though. Alloy specifications are done through an industry group-Aluminum Alloys are registered with the Aluminum Association, while SAE does alloy controlling for steels. Military grade is a bit of an advertising term, and milspec is correct-there is a list of specifications something must meet, usually related to performance, weight, durability, waterproofing, etc. Military grade doesn't mean much, milspec means it probably meats a MIL STD-some number. You can find similar items by going for ruggedized gear and looking for commercial standard ratings, such as IP67 for dust and water ingress. Saying military grade without giving a MIL STD it conforms to is an advertising ploy only, it gives the impression of toughness and ruggedness without having to take the time to conform to a military or commercial performance specification/standard.

They didn't build entire truck out of aluminum just the frame. The body is regular paper thin recycled soda cans
>>
>>14508732
Most naval ships are made out of aluminum, plenty of aircraft are made out of aluminum, and several armored vehicles use aluminum frames or plating.
>>
>>14508983
This meme needs to end. Military grade is a term used by laymen to describe the alloy number used in military operations. Military spec would refer to the tolerances required by the military like thickness or torque specs.

As a consumer it helps me to know that of all the varying aluminum alloys, they chose one that more durable, and already tested for things like wear, torsion resistance, flex, and structural integrity. To further know they're tested and backed by something as abusive as the military is also nice to know: even if it's nowhere near as thick.

>>
>>14510037
The military does not use one type of aluminum.
There are different types of aluminum alloy.
The type needing to be used would be in the military specifications for different applications.
So saying "military grade" is a thing is simply not true.

The main problem with aluminum armor is its propensity to catch fire when hit with heavy enough incendiary small arms or HEAT rounds. This isn't really a problem in a pickup truck.
>inb4 I live in Syria anon

No, he's entirely correct. As an AMCOM GS-1910-12 who works rewrites and revisions for aviation MIL-STD's, I'll tell you he's entirely correct. The burden of proof still lies with you because you're the idiot making baseless claims.

It's just like aircraft grade aluminum. are you going to sit on your ass and tell me those grades aren't good for airplanes because they could be the aluminum used for the cluster? Ford isn't going to waste precious air time explaining the grade of aluminum and how it's good to the common wealth. The common wealth wouldn't understand/not give a shit. They just want to know it'll last, which can be nicely summed up with "military grade aluminum" which is indeed one of the grades of aluminum used by the military. Not sure how to break through your aspergers, but it's kinda common sense.
