Too bad there are no euro or aussie muscle cars just imitators.
>>
>>14471781
That is basically what it means. Powerful mid size car.
>>
>>14471807
No, a muscle car is a midsize car with a high performance V8 from the early 60s to early 70s made and sold in the United States.

Why even make a thread? "Muscle Car" is just a slang term anyways, so of-fucking-course the name is ambiguous.
>>
>>14471750

>Pony cars

On the basis of 1968-72 Trans Am Series results, the Camaro was better than the Mustang until the Javelin showed up and raped both of them

>Muscle

kek who fucking cares, none of them could turn
If the AMX counts then probably that.
>>
>>14471829
It isn't though, it is well defined.
>>
>>14471834

Which is why everyone argues over it's definition all the time, hurrr.
>>
>>14471833
AMX was a fucking sports car

Hurst Olds cars were considered some of the best handling cars around in their time

not just counting Burgershit

IROC-Z, son
>>
Why don't any of you stupid fucking kids ever be a little bit more specific than using the term "handling".

At low speeds, no a turd gen F body does not turn well. At high speeds, absolutely yes, they were amazingly stable cars. That's what made them a great platform for the whole IROC series.

The 5th gen, 4,000+lbs camaros, handle well in that same sense too.

posting my cant turn pig fat

Honestly though, while stable the weight does amplify everything. I've been 145+ MPH in this car on a what is a bumpy road at that speed and honest I've felt the IRS being put to work. The suspension setup stock does well for it's size.

It is understeer prone in a tight bend, but my Contis are sticky enough that with TC off I can just give it some throttle to rotate the rear end, and there it will snap oversteer through a fast bend on throttle.

Found that out in a rather scary way, but honestly I think my Contis allow that to happen. My P Zeros would happily fucking understeer off the road, and I mean complete loss of front traction.
>>
I'd say the 442 and 68-69 Chargers.

not a muscle car.
>>
my '99 Pontiac trans am handles amazingly well. so 4th gen f-body

the whole not turning meme is retarded. i just can't see it at all. it handles like a touring car

very wide, low, stable. its almost any corner at any speed kind of handling
>>
>>14471907
>with TC off

'99 here

kek

>that feel when oversteer/rotating the rear in the middle of a 90mph corner

muh solid rear axle

not a muscle car.
>>

>What is the best handling muscle car?

Can you define what you think a "muscle car" is?
>>
>>14473260
i beg to differ.

>engine in the front (V8)
>trans in the middle
>solid rear axle

no traction control/stability control/any driving aids except ABS

the car has conventional steering it even has the old sealed-beam headlights.

the '98-02 Trans Am is the pinnacle of American muscle cars. It was 30 years old when it was brand new.
>>
>>14473201
will the 2017 Camaro SS 1LE outperform the Shelby GT350?
“That’s obviously our intent. I have the answer, but I’ll let the rest of you decide how we did. Our goal is to up the game with our competitor, just like they upped the game with the GT350. Everyone had to expect we would punch back.

And that is the beauty of competition.
this back and forth game forcing the others to step up their game.
>>
>>14473210

Neither is a GT350
>>
>>14473297
I don't give a shit. The muscle car era ended in 1974 and nothing newer than that can be a muscle car.

>>14473299
No shit.

>>

>>
>>14473438
a '67 camaro was a fairly small car

especially considering your average 4 door family car in the early 70s was a 6000lb v8 land barge
>>
Have a 1970 390 Javelin 4 speed. Don't know if it is a pony car or a muscle car. Javelin has power steering and some very primitive disc brakes. I don't even think about probing the limits of cornering in that thing.
>>
Muscle Cars don't have to be old, but they do have to be a midsize coupe car, that is cheap enough to where the general public could afford it, and practical enough to DD.

They don't have to be a V8, see the Buick Grand National, although most do. The GN is basically the exception to the rule.

The price point is why a CTS-V coupe isn't a muscle car.

The Camaro, Firebird, Mustang, Challenger, Cougar, and the rest of those are Pony Cars. As they aren't midsize. Similarly, an old Impala coupe isn't, because it's full-size.

They have to have more than 2 seats, barring special models, which is why the AMX and Corvette are not.

The GTO, Chevelle, Cutlass 442, Torino, and Charger, those are muscle cars. They are a Midsize coupe.

Muscle car has become a blanket term and it's incorrect.

2006 GTO is probably the best handling, as it is a midsize car, it's a as big as a Malibu or any other midsize car.
