3rd-gen Ford Tauruses are awful for this, the front brake rotors are tiny and warp fast.

they heat unevenly
some parts of the rotors expand faster than others because of this heat differential. It's made worse when, after heating the brakes, you come to a stop and apply the brakes. The parts under the pads aren't allowed to cool as fast as the rest of the disc, and repeatedly doing this over the life of the brake disc will cause it to warp.

You can't see the warp unless you put the disc on a brake lathe, in which case the amount of warping will be audible and immediately visible. It's not like a warped record.

This is all I thought when my boss was convinced by our shop's gravy sucking pig to buy a ten thousand dollar on car brake lathe.

We could just use that 10k to purchase new rotors and even cut the customers a brake on some of the labor since we wont be spending a half hour cutting rotors.

Why fucking bother when rotors for small cars are in the 50-100 dollar range for a set. The lathe is only cost effective on trucks and if you do enough of them to offset the cost of the machine.

The lathe is completely useless on euro cars. 9/10 the rotors are to worn out to re-use.

Disc thickness variation. Happens due to improperly mounted brake pads or damaged caliper floating systems. It's physically impossible for you to get the steel brake discs hot enough to warp.
