These cars were well known around most of the world except the US, in australia the r32 gtr was raced and become a legend, the supra has always had a following because of dat sweet 2jz, and so has the gtr because godzilla, they were ahead of their time when new and can still out perform alot of vehicles today, if you have never been in a supra or gtr you wouldn't understand, power delivery is violent, sounds amazing and with few modifications can become very powerful, fnf made the cars more well known to america, everyone else already knew about them

Agreed. To me the Supra is one of the few cars that can actually look really good completely stock or with a bodykit.

It's also a car that can be a slow as fuck cruiser (N/A 2JZ) or tuned to the absolute balls (those 1500+HP missiles).

I actually dislike the Skylines more because of the FnF movies, people somehow got the impression that just because they weren't imported to the states it was this monstrous slayer of any and all things automotive and that nothing could touch it because GEETEEARU. It could certainly compete with the likes of a Porsche or Ferarri but only just.

Gearbox and diff are known to take 1400hp at the rear wheels in almost stock form. Factory bottom end can do 600rwhp when tuned properly and even in lightly modded stock form they're fast.

GTRs were destroying everything else on the road before F&F1 was even a dream.

Nope, I've never seen a fast and furious movie and I like the mkIV Supra. I like the mkII and mkIII better, though.

Being in Australia, the GT-R was always big and the Supra was the "rival".
Naturally we had the falcondores, but the Japanese coupes were a bit more exotic.

I could never justify paying for a Supra at current prices.
I'd much rather just pick up a 2JZGTE and R154, and cram those into $2000 SC300.

It's an easy swap into a car which weighs less and has a very cheap aftermarket, as well as FAR cheaper replacement parts.

To be fair, though, no source is gonna be 100% reliable with these weights. The only real way to find out is to take two 100% stock, unmolested cars, make sure they're perfectly clean and dry, both have full gas tanks, and weigh them on a proper scale that's well-calibrated.

Lightest Soarer/SC made (mine): 1540kg for 1JZ (manual/auto)
MK4 Supra TT: 1490kg manual, 1510kg auto.

Lightest possible MK4 was 93 non-turbo manual with no options at 1430kg.


This isn't to say the soarer isn't an excellent car, it's just different from the supra. The supra is a sports car going on GT while the soarer is a GT going on sports car, you can tell by the bloody 78L tank the bitch has.

Is there anything more to the Supra than the engine? Does it handle, or is it just a glorified dyno queen? Its also the worst looking sports/gt car of that era.

GTRs at least handle well even in stock and can output a lot of power.

Looks are subjective, but it handles pretty well for it's weight, obviously not as responsive as a hot hatch but it's also no Camry. I've only driven an N/A one so can't comment on performance.
