The often forgotten Miata General makes a return.

Tell us about your Miata.

>have you sent it to gay boot camp yet
>how close are you to that engine swap/forced induction you're totally going to do man
>that one episode from initial D

No one will buy my miata.
I just want it gone damnit!
>>
I don't have one, but my parents have an NC. Anyone who shits on them compared to other Miatas doesn't know what they are talking about.
>>
>>14452232
why are you selling yours?
are you corolla FX anon?
>>
>>14452240
Yes.
I have too many vehicles and I'm not comfortable in the miata. I always feel like I'm gonna die driving it. Plus I'll never mod it. So its just pointless for me
>>
I guess this is more of a general question for any car, but is it ok/normal for my miata to not heat up all the way when driving? By that I mean the temp gauge normally is just above the first "C" line when i'm cruising. When I drive it hard for a few minutes the temp will increase to close to the middle (operating temp), then it goes back down. It's cold as fuck in MD right now so i'm nervous to drive it, don't wanna fuck anything up. Car blows lukewarm air throughout most of a drive. My main concern is when my engine is cold, my oil pressure likes to skyrocket above 4k. When it is warm the oil pressure never gets about 60 or so. I have a 94 so it's a legit oil gauge. I'm using 10W-30 for w.e reason and I think that's slowing the heating of the engine compared to 5W-30.

Any tips? Thanks,.

>>
>tfw drive a lancer
>tfw no general will take me in
>>
>>14452336
It's loud (road noise), twitchy, low, and small.
People always turn into my lane without noticing me. Or ride my ass or pull in front of me. Zero respect in this car.
Plus my legs have like 1" of clearance from the bottom of the steering wheel. And I'm not even fat or tall.
Any time I try to drive aggressively I hit my legs with my hands and the door with my elbow.
It's just flat out uncomfortable.

The price is good but those rear panels are expensive.

And yes the 1.6 is very slow. I used to own a 1991. If I were to buy another Miata I'd get a 1999-2000. The NA with the 1.8 and LSD is good too.
>>
>>14453506
Well, I'd probably just keep it that way in all honesty, unless I wanted to niggerig it by welding something there and getting it sprayed/wrapped

Its the only thing in my price range atm that fits my want of rwd and manual, wanted an mk3 supra but thats about double what I can drop on a vehicle
>>
>>14453530
>welding
It's plastic

Anyway yeah go for it. But I'd really suggest waiting to buy a good 1994-1997 model. You'll want the 1.8 and other goodies later.
>>
I like the way the new one looks and tried sitting in one at the dealer but there is not enough leg room. 6'6" with a 36" inseam puts a lot of cars in the not going to even consider bin.

Shieet that was one of my color requirements when I was looking for my Miata. I ended up getting a brilliant 1990 Mariner Blue with only 57k original miles. Absolutely love my little car.

Recently picked up some matte black 15x8 6UL's for $380 and I'm trying to get some new tires for it.
>>
>>14454752
Mariner blue is my favorite color of all years. I just happened to find mine and couldn't complain.

That's a sweet deal on those 6ULs. I paid 440 for my 15x7s, and i thought THAT was a good deal.

I'm scared. What do you think of the other Miatas I put up?
Is $3000 too much for a 1.6? Is the 1.6 bad?

>>
I'm waiting for my 124 so I can blow away Miatas.
>>
>>14455992
lol first no one is gunna call for you. just text them for now.

Out of the CL ads posted I would go for the black one for $2700. Talk em down to $2500 and youre saving 1k over the other two. Doesnt mention mileage though.

1.6s arent bad, but they are less powerful and have a notorious issue with the short crank only in 90-92 (??). This issue is a serious mechanical problem if it pops up. I know it's not in the 1.8. Try to get a 1.8, they shouldnt be more expensive.
>>

looking into getting a miata as a reliable second car to pair with my not so reliable but very fun bmw

i'm looking into a 1995+ for the 1.8l, is it worth getting a poorly kept example and fixing it up? should i stay below 150k miles?
>>
>>14459357
also i'm in the northeast so i'll be checking for rust obviously.
what price range am i looking at? like around 5k for a really good one?
>>
What battery is gud?

My 97 wouldn't start today because it was 0 degrees outside. Feels bad man.
>>
>>14459394
well, the stock battery tray is a little oversized for the stock battery, so you could probably get something that's a little taller and a little longer, but not wider

apparently a lot of people replace it with an optima red top of some flavor
>>
>>14459394

I put a Braille in mine. Tiny and 11 lbs. Works perfect. Free shipping on Amazon and less than an Optima and only a bit more than a decent battery at the parts store. For a Miata you really want to get the the correct battery with vents if you go flooded cell lead acid. So by the time you get the more expensive specialized battery you might as well have just went a gel cell or AGM.
>>
>>14459357
>>14459371
Price range varies depending on condition obviously, but around 5k is a reasonable price for one in fucking pristine condition (low miles, 8/10 exterior condition, no rust, etc). You can find plenty in the 2-4k range that are just as reliable. From my personal experience, and i'd say others as well, miatas are super reliable, I would go as far to say bulletproof. Just drive one you like, see how it feels/sounds, check for leaks, pretty much basic shit you do when buying any car. If you're a little knowledgeable in cars, open up rad and make sure theres no oil at the top. Vince versa w/ the engine oil, open up the filler cap and look for a foamy deposit around the threads, this indicates coolant in the engine oil. Just small things to know. When the cars running smell the exhaust to see if the engine is combusting properly. Ok im pretty much just telling you things to know to not buy a lemon.. you get the point.

tl;dr miatas are reliable. find one thats somewhat taken care of and enjoy.

I own a '94 thats has 314k miles. Had the stock engine up until a few weeks ago. Burned oil so I threw a '96 engine in. Have literally replaced ZERO thing mechanically in my year of ownership (besides engine parts for the '96).
>>
>>14459624
>burned oil
might have been the lifter seals?
apparently that's a rather easy fix

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtC7huYT_H8

then again i'm used to pretty deep car maintenance, owning a bmw and all.
speaking of which an auto transmission replacement is coming up soon, and a manual swap some time in the summer
>>
>>14459636
actually, here's a CL search for miatas nearby from 95 to 97

anything good here? They all seem kinda overpriced
>>
>>14459636
Never read into what the root cause would have been. But at 300k I was pretty sure the engine was just old. With the amount of oil it was burning (a metric fuck ton), I thought there was no hope.

I've only ever read up on tans swaps on my Honda, but they scare me. Lots of parts to source and ECU. I'm a scrub.
>>
>>14459687
own a bimmer to be un-scrub, the manual swap i'm looking into is a ton of parts, a lot of wiring, and a lot of coding the various modules in the car

Legit sunburst?
>>
>>14464652
Nope. Rattle canned it over Christmas break. Weather was shitty but I poured my soul into it over 3 weeks and wetsanded and colorsanded until it was perfect. It used to be shitty Montego with primer all over it and I decided enough was enough and just did it with yellow rustoleum spray paint and alot of hard work.

Looks great, even close up. It could use a buff to shine but I want to wait another month once summer comes for it to fully cure and get super duper hard so I can buff and clay it real good.

Honestly I'm just glad it is one color now.
>>
>>14464674
Wtf did you paint it outside? Weren't you afraid of condensation or random air particulates etching into the drying paint?
>>
>>14464696
Yeah in my driveway. It looks great :p I covered everything up when I did the final spray but I mean it was still open air. Suprisingly nothing fell in the paint at all, and I was near trees and stuff. My dad accidentally messed up the passenger door paint when it was drying so I have to fix that along with a couple other area but overall it looks good. I mean it's not a super good professional job or anything but it's alot better than anything maaco could do.
>>
>>14464729
The main thing for me was that it's thorough too. It took so long because I literally took every panel off and painted it separately so it is a full respray.

Basically everything but the interior metal within the seam welds. You can't tell from the outside that it used to be Montego.

Can't wait for spring to put these on and have them painted. Also have a hard top spoiler, GV style front lip without the holes, and a hard dog roll bar. I think it looks good. Is this your car, or Adam's from Revlimiter? I feel like I've seen this pic before.

I have a 1998 miata, (it's JDM so 1998 actually exists there).

It smells like it's burning oil when above 5k rpm, and when I got it looked like it was leaking from the valve cover, so I cleaned it up and it hasn't leaked since.

I can't see any other oil leaks anywhere else, so would I be right in assuming that the dude who changed the oil last (was serviced just before I bought it), cocked up and spilt some oil on the side, and that's the cause of the smell?

My '15. Got it, took it around the country earlier last year. Drive it daily.

Had a '97 before. I do miss dem pop ups but the '15 is mad fun too.
