They're a volume manufacturer that can't make good affordable/normal cars. They're just being kept alive on life support via their halo cars.

Rumor has it Fiat is considering pulling out of the partnership.

I'm sure they'd get bailed again, the concept of only 2 large car companies in America would be too hard for shareholders in the States to grasp.

Same happened to the Bravo/Delta.
There's a new platform, based on the new Tipo. That's why they're discontinuing it. The Giulietta on the other is still produced, maybe because the new one won't be based on the Tipo platform.

Dodge needs to learn from this. Dodge will never gain notoriety for making something great. They need to make something cheap and fun to sell in big numbers and make a name for themselves, get people talking about Dodge in a good manner. I don't want to say like a Miata, something a little bigger that can handle their V8s

That's exactly what Dodge has to learn from. They can make a car that breaks every single record and no one will care, no one can afford these vehicles, it's a popularity contest for teenagers. Dodge needs an affordable, likable car with some muscle that Dodge is known for. They should have made a real pony car ages ago.

99.9% of their market base can't afford it, why would they care.

>Dodge will never gain notoriety for making something great
no, they just need to make something great that people can afford, that doesn't mean it has to be the fastest in the world though. mazda is smart making the miata which is a cheap fun car, and honda with their civic si/type R, subaru with the WRX, volkswagon and the GTI, ford and all their small cars that are getting performance versions, chevy V6 camaro?/Volt? (do they really have a lot of in demand small/cheap cars?)

anyway manufacturers need to make small cars that people want to buy, it also helps to have a gimmick to bring people to your brand like subaru with AWD. dodge doesn't really have a gimmick except for making high performance cars that most people looking for a dodge aren't going to buy.

>>
>>14331850
Sadly
>>
>>14331845
But the problem will be it will be priced like the Mustang or Camaro which have been in the game far longer and probably perform better. It would have to be noticeably cheaper to have any relevance.

>>14331837
If you're impressed by top speed you buy the normal version, if track times you buy the track version. And yes, you can buy two of these for the price of one of its competitors. But again none of this matters because hardly anyone buys these.

>>
>>14331500
The condensed wisdom of the blogosphere is that Chrysler is indeed a dead brand walking but not for the immediately obvious reasons.

It seems that Ram trucks and Jeep have been the cash cow keeping FCA awash with a huge drag on the whole thing being Fiat and the emphasis on getting Alfa launched. This leaves nothing for future product development and the word is they've got nothing for beyond 2018. That means that if they started today with a moon-shot equivalent crash program it'd be 2021 before new product was available and with the public already tired of current products this is a death knell. This is largely why Sergio has been desperate for a partnership.
>>
>>14332012
>Ram trucks and Jeep have been the cash cow
don't forget all the chargers they sell to the police, although from what I've seen most police are moving to ford explorers
>>
>>14332012
This is ridiculous. The Hemi architecture has been out since 2003, the LX platform since 2006, Journey is on the chassis from the Avenger, everything else is a rebadge from other companies. How have they not have a single thing to come out with? Chrysler hasn't made anything on their own for like 2 decades.
>>
>>14331837
NO ONE? Are you kidding me? I don't think even 1/4 tards never reach the top speed of their vehicles in their races. No one gives a fuck about top speed beyond a certain point. For a long time the Ceylon was the fastest production car but I'd never dream of owning one because of how hideous it is. It also never impressed me.

>>
Chrysler is fine. They're killing the 200/dart because crossovers are dominating the market. They're making a new Journey, Compass, and Caliber that will all likely fit various versions of that field. The Durango is winning awards like crazy, just like the Cherokee and various iterations of the Ram. Volume sales for those brands are through the Goddann ceiling and into the stratosphere.

Smart money is on Trucks, SUVS and crossovers right now. Chrysler is smart to jump on that - especially since they're industry leaders with Jeep. They'll probably get back into rebranding Mazdas or Mitsubishi to keep in the small car segment, but the investment there will be in tech for the inevitable fuel cost inflation.

The Challenger and Charger are still due for major overhauls by 2020, probably to include a turbo 4 and a new Hemi. People seem to forget that the Charger is still making money hand over fist because it's the only reasonable V8 sedan on the market. Fleet sales are avsolutely retarded for a car that is old as it is. The Challenger has remained incredibly successful and sales have only improved with the updating.

You have to spend money to make money. Fiat isn't going to drop Chrysler because it's the only thing making them money.
>>
>>14333713
me too
wanna fuck?
>>
>>14331500
Nah man.

The only problem is that Fiat doesn't really understand the US market, and doesn't know what Dodge and Chrysler are supposed to do. Is Chrysler the luxury brand or the everyman's brand? Is Dodge the performance brand or the everyman's brand? SRT, wtf?

And how could they possibly believe that capturing the US market under their own name could work with their low quality vehicles? The best way to put yourself into a market is by making solid, quality vehicles like the Japanese did in the 1970s. Fiat, well, they're unreliable.

>>14331820
Cheap gimmicky (and if it's a 500, overpriced) cars have been the only cars Fiat have been able to produce and sell for a long time.
Their reliability record kills them in every segment up.

Fiat was a poor match for Chrysler. Daimler-Benz would have been a much better match, but that bombed.
>>
>>14331935
And Fiat knows how to build lightweight cars. But they ruined it.
>>
>>14332012
Which will fuck them up sooner or later when gas prices inevitably go sky-high again. They're highly dependent on oil prices.

At least they've got multiple platforms approved for usage in the US, unlike GM back in 2007.
