Whats it like to DD one of these?
What kind of mileage did you get out of a full tank?

Getting bored of my commuter car.
>>
>Whats it like to DD one of these?
It's comfy, you'll have no power and everybody will think you're a cop
>What kind of mileage did you get out of a full tank?
Look elsewhere if you don't want to pay V8 gas costs for I4 power.
>>
>>14315105
Had one for 6 years and 300,000 miles. They're solid reliable cars that are comfy as fuck and cheap for everything. Gas mileage wasn't great (24mpg or so) but it's a great car otherwise.
>>
>>14315105
i dont give a fuck what anyone says
you will never get over 18mpg *city* in one of those

Been a daily driver well over a year. Not that many really think you're a cop, has enough room for anything, my milage is high teens but I don't hyper mile if ya know what I mean.

If you're looking at this type of body style, get a 2003 or newer, went through a significant chassis redesign that year.
>>
>>14315105
it's really comfy, who gives a fuck about mpg with gas below $2 a gallon.
>>
>>14315105
If you see any highway 21mpg, city will be around 17mpg.
>>
>>14315149
That's what modern Ford Fusions do in reality. Pretty much any other car will do better though.

I get 20mpg combined city and highway. Replace the front suspension and shocks and it actually handles pretty good for what it is. It's slow and underpowered though, especially if you get an LX like pictured in the OP.

It's a good daily driver and when it breaks you can fix it for cheap.

No one will think you're a cop. They will think you're an old person. Most police departments have nearly completely phased out crown vics anyway.

There is good trunk space and comfortable ride.

Depending on age, the front suspension may need a rebuild.

Pic related...did the heater core in mine last year

Comfy as fuck as previously mentioned. Used one for work car for 3 years. Full tank lasted me a 5 day work week with a round trip commute of 45 miles a day.

>hurr people think your a cop tho

Everyone in a charger could be a cop. And taurus. And an explorer. And the new tahoes. And a Malibu that's far enough behind you.
>>
>>14315133
What do you do that makes you drive 50k miles a year?
>>
I had one for a few years. Mostly city driving and I have a bit of a lead foot despite the lack of oomph.
Barely ever got above 20mpg. But it's really a fantastic car to drive, despite its size and age. Super comfy.

Better MPGs than my truck.
How are they to park?
How much would you spend on a tank?
How big of a tank?
>>
>>14315633
>How are they to park?
Depends on local parking lots. Some have small spaces, some don't. It's a big landbarge and there's no getting around that.
>How much would you spend on a tank?
It takes regular.
>How big of a tank?
20 gallons.

They say it's 20gal but I could never fill up past 17. And I drove for 500 miles straight one time.

Perfectly easy to park in my opinion. Costs me under $40 a fill up. If you get a police version (would have p71 in the VIN except the last two years which are all fleet anyway) I would expect high teens maybe low 20s on the highway.

They are fine to park if you aren't retarded.

It depends on the promoter and the class.

But with aluminum spindles its easy to disable the steering.

That being said, the car has been in 20+ runs over 3 years. Some cars wont even make it through 1. We stopped using this one because the trunk got folded in so much that the tires stuck out further than the framerails

I've out a lot of work into it. When I got it it was 5 quarts low on trans fluid, but the bodywork was fairly straight, it had fresh white paint (used to be an oreo car, wish they'd come with black instead) and the price was right. Pretty much everything that's been fixed on it has been improved with better/newer parts, and for a 2-ton boat with an asthmatic engine, she dances in the twisties pretty well.

Also literal bulletproof doors.

>>14317132
You're just not trying hard enough then. RWD + long wheelbase = hektic skids.

Plus, it weighs less than the Chrysler LX platform, so the only issues with squeezing real performance out of it are the engine (put a different Modular in it) and the live rear axle (T-bird IRS swap). It'll never be a head-turner or a race car, but it can be a fun semi-muscle sedan for cruising and revving at Civics like a fucktard.

Very

Also, if you get a non P71 and can keep it to 65mph or less you'll be seeing high 20s mpg-wise.

I would get a Grand Marquis or a Town Car over the Crown Victoria though for those extra niceties.

That's what these cars are built for. Lincoln Town Cars are still the number one chauffeur cars in the US. Only forced off the streets because limos and taxis have to be less than 10 years old.
>>
>>14318354
What are the main differences between p71 and non-p71 that gives it that much of an MPG difference?

Also do MPGs plumet once stuck in rush-hour traffic?
>>
PROS:
rugged
comfortable
cheap to fix
cheap to maintain
cheap to buy
lots of trunk space
lots of interior space
CONS:
MPG comparable to mid size SUV
large size may be detrimental in parking in tight spaces (i.e. large city downtown)

That guy in the blue P71 says he gets shit mileage. I've got 27mpg in this and got 28mpg in my old Town Car on the highway.
>>
>>14318387
Would removing the pushbars and spotlights help with improving the MPGs since there would be less weight and drag?

Im finding more p71s than none p71s.

An anon mentioned a 500 mile per tank range, is that accurate?
What do you achieve?

>>14318376
Better intake, dual exhaust, little more aggressive shift points on the transmission, rear end gears is probably the biggest factor. V8's do suck gas when in city traffic. They pretty much use the same amount of gas on the highway which is why they shine on the highway. For driving 100+ miles I'd certainly recommend any other Panthers before the p71, mostly on account for a better interior and more likely to have cruise control. The Crown Victoria LX Sport would be perfect but they are getting overpriced in my opinion. Mercury Marauders supposedly get good gas mileage but require premium (they have a high performance engine)

>>14318387
Most I ever got was on the /o/ meet, 21mpg on the whole tank. Was never able to achieve it again lol. But my driving is mostly city and I do not have cruise control which I'd say would help.
>>
>>14318503
>An anon mentioned a 500 mile per tank range, is that accurate?
I usually averaged 21mpg in mixed driving so I usually filled up around 320 miles. If you do a lot of highway driving you'll see 400+ per tank. The gas gauge is conservative on these and you still have quite a bit of fuel left at empty.
>>
>>14318503
Don't forget the Mercury Grand Marquis and the Lincoln Town Car, the former is usually forgotten a lot. You should do well into the 20's on the highway, but it's no Prius. This was made when gas mileage was not the main philosophy, comfortable smooth driving was.
>>
>>14318549
Ill have to look into the Marquis. Theyre basically a nicer Crown Vic right?

Yes, the CV/GM are mechanically the same but the GM are 9/10 better equipped than their Ford counterpart. The Town Car is even more comfy as it has a longer wheelbase, so you get better ride quality and more rear legroom compared to the CV/GM.

They are all exactly the same. The Mercury will most likely have leather seats/options. Lincoln has slightly different body panels and rear air suspension. The Crown Victoria LX Sport has a slightly stiffer suspension and anti-sway bars (though not as stiff as the P71, wich still rides good to me) Some say the regular Crown Vic and Grand Marquis suspension is a bit soft and floaty (think 70's and early 80's cars) so I'd test drive to see if you like it first.

Those things have a tendency to shit the bed so factor in the cost of converting to rear coils if it hasn't been done already.

>>14318952
There is a regular wheel base version and a long wheel base version for both Lincoln and Ford. Ford only had it available as a taxi version and in the middle east.
>>
>>14318976

That's not much legroom for how big the car is.

That's one problem with the SWB Panthers; they don't use their size very efficently.
>>
>>14318986

I didn't know there was a LWB version of the Crown Vic offered. I thought the Lincoln was the only one available in a long wheelbase config.
>>
>>14318976
It's bigger than it looks. Also account for rear headroom which is an afterthought in modern fastbackish design.

>>14319006
The middle east and China love cars with loads of rear seat room. It's the reason Lincoln and Cadillac are trying to recreate proper full size cars again.
