Redpill me on the BRZ /o/

What reason do I have to buy this over a WRX STI?
Turbo when?
>>
>What reason do I have to buy this over a WRX STI?
None unless you like RWD
>Turbo when?
Never
>>
>>14266363
>What reason do I have to buy this over a WRX STI?
You like how it drives better
>Turbo when?
From the factory? Never.
>>
It's cheaper.
RWD/Hektik skids.
Better looking.
Great gas mileage.
It feels faster when you're going slow, so you can have more fun within the speed limit.

It's basically a modern S-chassis so if you can keep it reasonably stock and well maintained until it becomes a classic, it'll probably be a safe investment.
>>
>>14266363
The BRZ will always be inferior to the WRX (and STi) because Subaru don't want to cut sales.

What the fuuuck. Will it even fit an aftermarket one?

Why did they squander all their potential with this car?
>>
>>14266390
of course it will fit an aftermarket one. Any car in the entire world can fit an aftermarket turbo if you want to dump enough money into it.
>>
>>14266390
There are a ton of aftermarket tarbos/superchargers you can fit. You could probably even twincharge one. Someone on here has a 400+ hp FRS I'm pretty sure.

It's suppose to be a throwback to cheap 90's nipponese sport coupes. Kinda slow out of the box but you're supposed to fix that. It's your daily and your project car at the same time.

Of course it will, pic related, people were doing these within months of the cars launch

>Why did they squander all their potential with this car?
You can thank Subaru for that. Subaru would never allow any design change that would possibly result in the BRZ stealing sales from the WRX

Toyota tried, and failed, multiple times to push for both a roadster and a higher power trim level
>>
>>14266363
Is it just me or does the gap between the wheels and fenders look goofy as fuck on this pic?
>>

there you are you lazy clueless nigger
>>
>>14266390
Of course it will accept an aftermarket turbo. And as it stands its a hardtop alternative to the Miata, I don't know what more "potential" it needs/had.
>>
>>14266418
>Subaru would never allow any design change that would possibly result in the BRZ stealing sales from the WRX
But... the two cars are in completely different boats. One is an RWD Coupe, the other an AWD sedan with multiple performance trims
>>
>>14266867
If the BRZ's specs were increased to any meaningful degree, it would be a competitor to the WRX. At least in Subaru's mind
>>
>>14266390
Putting a turbo is literally the first thing anyone performance minded does to it
>>
It's not fast, its small and its ride is stiff, and I love mine. It handles so nicely and feels so light and athletic, when your taking back roads 3 times the speed limit you will forget how fast you are really going. The brz will understeer almost as much as it overseers and alot of them have already been crashed. It's not magic, its just good fun. They will run a quarter mile at a high 14sec and is competition for high end civics.
>>
>>14266952
Meh if I wanted a turbo car I would buy a wrx
>>
>>14267015
You don't really feel the turbo in Scoobydoo. Get an Evo where the turbos are as big as your head so you can enjoy 20lbs of boost on a stock tune.
>>
>>14267020
Confirmed for never driven one, I have an NA Legacy and an Outback XT and you can definitely feel it when you're boosting the OBXT.

Haha god, I always do get a bit of a giggle when I look at the automatic BRZ/FR-S 0-60 and quarter mile times

-Automatic BRZ: 0-60 in 7.3, quarter mile at 15.6

-My 2001 ML 430 sport: 0-60 in 7.3, quarter mile at 15.6

>those feels when your 15 year old soccer mom chariot can pace an automatic BRZ

My first car was a minivan. I'd much rather drive my brz.
>>
>>14267355
Hey they ARE fun cars

It just blows my mind that the automatic is a full second slower to 60 than the manual. In today's world there's just no excuse for that
>>
>>14267552
What blows my mind is that people buy a feelsy driver's car in automatic in the first place, performance aside.

Pic related is from C&D back when the cars first came out. BRZ was 70% manual. It was a 50/50 split over at Scion
>>
>>14267589
The manual hardly ever comes up for resale in my area.
>>
>>14267092

>those feels when your 15 year old soccer mom chariot can pace an automatic BRZ

right up until the first corner, but most people shit their pants when the wheel has to be turned, so whatever.
>>
>>14267639
I'll take the ML down the touge any day
>>
>>14267589
That poses an interesting question.

Are manual transmissions actually popular?
>>
>>14267803
No.

In Canada and the US, they make up between 6% and 9% of car sales.

Selling more manuals than autos is very rare here in NA.
>>
>>14267826
Doesn't that contribute to the fact that a lot of cars ONLY come in manual?
>>
>>14267803
>>14267826
Nevermind, I estimated too high.

>"The percentage of cars that offer a manual transmission in Canada has fallen to just 9 per cent, down from 35 per cent in 1980, according to IHS Automotive. You can’t call a stick shift “standard” any more, when an automatic is usually the only option. Just 3.6 per cent of new car buyers in Canada so far this year opted to shift their own gears. And, as Robert Karwell of J.D. Power and Associates says, the steady improvement of the automobile has made the manual increasingly obsolete."

>>
>>14267831
No trucks have them, Toyota yaris doesn't have a manual option. Big auto has spoken. Cars are appliances and nothing more.
>>
>>14267842
You can actually still get a Ram 2500 with a stickshift to my surprise.
>>
>>14267848

>>
It's a 90s momentum car for faggots that are too afraid to restore a S13.
>>
>>14267831
"Improvement has made manual obsolete"

I'd argue its the rise of the appliance whiteware mindset rather than improvements.

Manual I think now lives in the industrial or enthusiast market.
>>
>>14267563
The BRZ was meant for the muh feels/muh 90s nipcar/muh skidz crowd, but it also attracts the "sporty mom" demographic who wants to look cool but has no interest in spirited driving. The kind of people who like the idea of performance but don't want anything scary to happen.
>>
>>14266390
The point was to keep he price point where its a cheap entry level car. And to keep sales from interfering with wrx/sti. If it was turbod they would add another 10k to that price tag and people still wouldnt be satisfied.
>>
>>14267864
Even then, the manual is dying to the semi-automatics.

I'm not saying i wasn't exaggerating but the toyubaru is an unbelievable piece of shit. its like toyota and subaru found their worst parts and put them together in a car to be sold to teenagers and tards who don't know better. the interior is shit, the car is slow, the tires are a joke, it has fake fender grills too for gods sake, and best of all, it really doesn't handle that well. its average at best. most disappointing test drive of my life and i drove a fiesta ST the hour before.

but hey its an upgrade from a honda. don't mistake it for a driver's car however. its a prettly looking rwd econobox.

>Subaru would never allow any design change that would possibly result in the BRZ stealing sales from the WRX

I like you LPG, but I've yet to see any real proof that Subaru is responsible for kneecapping the BRZ.

A sale is still a sale. Unless the profit margins are drastically different it's better to cannibalize yourself than let another company steal your business.
>>
>>14268497
Subaru is just paranoid because the WRX is basically the only thing they have left, the only real baner they can cling to and hold up as having any pedigree. The regular Impreza is shit. The SUV's do ok, but they aren't breaking any sales records

I like them, but Subaru fanboys are in denial if you think they aren't responsible for bogging down the GT86. Anything that might damage the perception of their only halo vehicle is going to be avoided.

And who is stealing the business? At the end of the day, nothing directly competes against the twins other than maybe the Miata.
>>
>>14268537
Are you pretending to be retarded? Subaru is setting sales records left and right. They just finished their seventh consecutive year of record growth. No other manufacturer even comes close to that. The Forester grew 9.5% over 2014 from 159,953 units to 175,192, and for comparison the Highlander grew 8.8%, from 146,127 to 158,915. They sold 33,734 WRX/STi and 5,296 BRZ in 2015, they're not exactly Subaru's cash cow like the Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek are.

http://media.subaru.com/pressrelease/909/120/subaru-america-inc-announces-december-2015-sales-best

There's also the fact that Toyota was forcing Subaru to only make 1 BRZ for every 6 GT86/FR-S.

Cheapest hard top FR in the US, and cheaper than the AE86 adjusted for inflation.

100 horsepower per liter n/a is pretty good, actually

>>
>>14271200
Ah that's right, that's not terrible. I was thinking a power back from 6000-7000 would be awful but if it's 4k-7k it's much more usable.

It would be moderately annoying to me having to rev it out that much all the time though.

It makes something like 90% of max torque at 2K rpm. There's a torque drop in the middle, but in city traffic I never really have to leave 2-3.5K thanks to the gearing. If you want to fast at people, then you need to rev it.

#16 is my brz. It passes no problem. It cruises smooth on that torque dip at 70-75 in 6th gear. It passes easily. It wants to accelerate. It wants to go the fast. IV gone 130 without any complaint.
>>
>>14271808

GT86 is the same as the FRS but with different badges, so you're post makes no fucking sense.
>>
>>14272434
I'd rather have a Toyota badge than a Scion badge personally... and I'd rather call it an 86 than an FRS.

It's why you see so many Toyota badgeswapped FRS in NA.

>>14272434
Yeah nah, I'd rather have a real GT86 then own a shitty scion. Also the Gt86 can at least be optioned up to be on par with the BRZ interior-wise.
>>
>>14272433
No you don't need to down shift. It will run away from you if you don't watch your speed. It's got a nice power to weigh ratio for an econo sport. Accelerating from 70-80 is short. if you shift into 5th at 90+ your at 110 before too long and shifting to 6th. I never actually timed it but its not much different than accelerating in traffic.
