Hi br/o/s

I have a problem with my friend. He just borrowed 11k AUD from the bank to buy a new car. He's looked at one car, an R32 GTST Skyline, and has already pretty much decided he's going to buy it. I wouldn't have an issue with this, but it's stanced and has a bunch of dodgy problems; a poorly fitting GTR bumper, a shitty fibreglass bonnet, an incorrectly installed front fender (leaving a gap so big between the bonnet I can press my thumb straight down into it), a missing rear drum, and a ziptied-in radiator. Besides these things, the car has good wheels (TE37s), makes good power, has coilovers, has a bunch of expensive genuine parts, and has a very tidy interior. The car's been on the market for quite a while, and the guy actually said that he doesn't really want to sell it and admits that he's asking too much, yet my friend is considering offering only 1k under his asking price of 12k.

This is the exact thing he did with his last car- bought the only thing around at the time (small state) claiming "it's the best thing on the market" and then regretted it later when he realised the car was shit and that he could have gotten something much nicer if he had simply waited.

How can I convince the silly bastard that he's fucking himself over?

(pic not of the car in question)

>How can I convince the silly bastard that he's fucking himself over?
At best that sounds like a 5k car at most!
Hell, its full of defects already, so get a mechanic to give that 2nd opinion. I mean shit I've been working on cars and motorbikes since I was very young, but I still get another persons opinion because you simply just don't see all the problems yourself.
>>
The fact that he considered paying $11k for a fucked GTSt means he's a retard
The fact that he took a loan in order to finance this means he's an even bigger retard than previously stated.

He can easily find a less fucked GTSt, or look at Silvias/180sx instead.
>>
>>14263100
Great idea, that could just be the solution. Even better would be to get his dad to look at it. His dad would slaughter him if he knew he got a big loan out for a car, haha
>>
>>14263086

> Not your money.

> Not your problem.

> People are stupid.

Leave your friend alone to his poor decisions or you'll certainly be dragged down when he crashes and burns. Just a matter of time.
>>
>>14263086
Let him learn the hard way.
>>
Tell him he is being a retard and to not do it.
For $11k he could find a Super nice MK3 Supra
For half that he could get a TT Soarer
>>
>>14263119
The problem mostly is that we live in Tassie. There's usually only a handful of roadworthy R32/3/4 Skylines on the market at a time. For some reason he's not interested in going up to Melbourne to find something.
They do come up though. I picked up a super clean R33 (manual turbo) with 100,000 kms and only a blown turbo for $4900. $700 later it's on the road (that's for a roadworthy, rego, turbo/gaskets, oil, coolant). My other car is a pretty clean turbo MR2 with a gen 3 motor that I bought for $4000. Good deals are definitely possible here

>>14263123
He's been my best mate for the last 7 years and I try my best to help him when he does retarded shit, but I don't let it bother me too much.
>>
>>14263132
There's a decent looking 1J manual soarer for $4900 with only a blown head gasket. A much better deal
>>
>>14263139

You'll be when you end up in a court testifying for him or with him owing you money, because with people like that, that's what invariably happens.

11K is no laughing amount of money and hes treating it like it's a two dollar bill. Kid is retarded as it gets and 7 years is nothing.

BTFO
>>
>>14263148
Also this.
>>
>>14263148
you're not wrong mate
>>
$11k for a gtst?! My mate has a gts4 4 door with a fully rebuilt engine which had been sat for 4 years which he picked up for $3k. It needs a new master cylinder and wheel bearings, and he's also sanding it all back and painting it himself as the paint was average. He'll still have atleast $5k left over if we go of your budget.

32gtst in good condition is worth $7k tops, or maybe a $9k for a really nice one. Fuck that's a lot.
>>
>>14263185
I'm going to have to show him these comments
>>
>>14263200

Either way you're going to lose a friend.

Might as well be right now. Because hell certainly will love reading this.

You sound as stupid as he seems.
>>
>>14263185
Even if he's got 11k in his pocket- line up half a dozen cars in Melfagbourne and go check them out.
Couple of hundred bucks well spent, then just drive the fucker home and have a mad roadtrip
>>
>>14263226
Why am I going to lose a friend exactly? Isn't it possible to be friends with someone even if they make some shit decisions at times?
>>
Financing 11 grand on a dodgy Skidline is a pants on head retarded idea.

Tell your mate how it is, it's his problem whether he doesn't like the truth or not, not yours.

If he won't listen then take the car to a qualified mechanic for an inspection, show him the report afterwards of all things the mech finds.

In the end it's his decision though, don't lose sleep because he chose to do something retarded.

Stupid people gonna stupid, it's not your responsibility to keep them in line. Mistakes need to be made to learn from them.
>>
>>14263148
Honestly this.

It's one thing being a retard with your own money, and an entirely different thing to do it with a fucking loan.

I mean for fucks sake, $10k nets you an R34 GT-T in what that condition sounds like, all he'd need to do is relax on a fucking ferry for a little bit.

My mate bought an extremely good condition R32 GTST for $7k up here in NSW about 1.5 years ago. Had a whole bunch of decent quality parts like tien and RPF1, GTR brakes and an alpine headunit + 4 speakers installed by somebody who wasn't a retard and hacked things up.
>>
>>14263240
Don't worry, I'm not losing any sleep. Just thought it would be fun to see what you guys said about the situation.
I will encourage him to get the car inspected. Will be funny to see how fucked the thing is.
If he makes the wrong choice he'll learn from it, hopefully. I'm just looking out for him, I'm not trying to force him to do anything.
>>
>>14263241
There was a clean manual R34 GTT for 10k 2 weeks ago that was almost totally stock.
>>
>>14263259
Why would anyone think of getting a beat ass GTSt when GTTs are right in that price range

>>14263253
My advice is to just tell him straight up he's being a dumb cunt and look at something else.
>>
>>14263288
>My advice is to just tell him straight up he's being a dumb cunt and look at something else.

That's pretty much what I did.
>>
>>14263331
Go headbutt him so he knows you serious
>>
>>14263352
Okay
>>
>>14263086
>fucked car
>that is also stanced
so if this dunce cant even put a bumper on properly i vomit thinking of how he nigger rigged the stance shit
>>
>>14263361
In all fairness bumpers are a pain in the ass if you're not willing to cut shit

so my point still stands
>too stupid/lazy to cut a piece of fiberglass
>somehow stances a car
>>
>>14263365
Sideskirts are the worst. Spent hours trimming and fitting mine. Bumpers aren't so bad.
>>
>>14263361
Fixing piece of shit old RB20s isn't much fun either, fucking garbage engine.
>>
>>14263371
It's not fiberglass, it's a genuine GTR bar. It's physically the wrong shape because the GTR is quite a lot wider.

I'd wager that'd look pretty good if it wasn't executed by a tard
>>
get better friends op
>>
>>14263398
Yeah pretty much. Done nicely it wouldn't be bad at all.
>>
>>14263382
It doesn't look horrid
>>
>>14263382
Doesn't actually look too bad. Bride seats cost around 1k their own if genuine
>>
>>14263415
They are apparently genuine. The car's general look isn't terrible but up close you can really tell care hasn't been taken.

When they went for a test drive I wasn't able to sit in the back because it makes the guards rub on the tyres.
>>
It's not uncommon for modified cars to have problems like that.
>>
>>14263448
Indeed, when they've been modified poorly. It's not even that the stuff isn't fixable, it's just not worth paying that much when there's so much wrong. He won't actually fix anything on it either.
>>
>>14263382
Looks pretty decent
>>
>>14263628
Not for 11 grand it doesn't.
>>
The gts t is better than the gtr so why care? Only thing to care about is price but aren't cars priced stupid to begin with in Australia.

Gts t is rwd so it's lighter.

Gts r is single turbo which is more reliable.

Everything else Is the same. But gtr owners pull the fuse for the 4wd so it's rwd like the gts t.
>>
He's just paying way too much. I can get an r32 (a gt-r even) for 12,500 and I live in the states.
>>
>>14263696
Yeah but 11,000 AUD is only 7,568.55 USD.

>>14263814

But they don't have F&F tax near as bad as we do, dude could buy a Turbo Mk.IV for around that price.
