Can anyone help me identefy the part circled in red?
>>14218135
looks like an inline resonator to me. Cars have had these for at least 20 years now
>>14218148
Why would the exhaust need to trap resin? Is it an emissions issue?
>>14218155
It's for cars that run on hemp fuels. That exhaust is for a converted Mustang.

Exhaust bearing housing. Helps with exhaust flow. If you buy it just put a quart of grease into the pipe. Never know if the previous owner has ever maintained it properly

As it is a resonator, not a deresonator, it obviously is there to increase resins in the exhaust gas stream.

I appreciate the help xoxo
Long sorry sort this is what happened (pic related). Will there be a check engine light if I hack them off and, weld a straight pipe?

Nah it'll just be louder

is there a downstream o2 sensor after them? No you dolt it's behind the cat in the midpipe. You some kind of engineer?
also I doubt that crushed the perforated pipe inside, not hurting anything use a flashlight or a borescope and take a peek.
