opinions and recommendations on the Honda Civic G23 VTEC engine swap

Dies or blows up more often than not. Apparently building engines is hard. Lots of bad head gasket and spun bearings. Check the H2B and F2B Facebook group for details. Might as well go K for the effort it takes

Well one of the biggest cons would be weight. I believe those are the heaviest 4 cyl engines that Honda makes at over 500lbs.

You have to make them, I'm sure you can buy them pre-built somewhere, but labor would litteraly be $1000+

Doesn't seem worth it over say just getting a H23A and plunking Type S pistons in it, and the extra machine work and other bullshit doesn't make it seem worth it for the power they make. Also tend to blow headgaskets/spin bearings.

Frankly I'd rather go K, a stock K24 will make more than enough power without going into a engine build.

Yes but factoring in cost and how I enjoy tinkering with shit, the only downside is the spun bearings and blown gaskets, which if I do correctly shouldn't be a problem, right?
I have a family member that has built other engines before to help me as well

Personally, my time is valuable: I'd rather just build a K24, do cams/springs/retainers for a reasonable 250whp, then whomp on it to the end of time.

Like I said, with H/Fs its a struggle to make past 240-250whp all motor, honestly most will do 220-230whp (cams/springs/retainers, BS delete, ported/skunk2 intake, 3" exhaust, and h2b header). The next 50whp are the difference between 11.50 and 10.50 index in drag racing, and costs a lot to make.

Also don't bother with a F20B. Its a fucking meme engine. Its shit. There's a guy that spent hundreds of hours and enough money with that only to make 212whp from the above mods (same power as a H22/H23 without cams), they don't even rev much higher.
