Why has does no company build rear engine sedans?
auto manufacturers employ accountants and engineers
Fwd is cheaper to make
>>14168553
What about rear engine, front wheel drive? That'd be a massive success.
>>14168564
German tanks were built like that.
>>14168564
are you retarded? you'd have to make a driveshaft tunnel through the fucking thing.
>>14168553
this is false. fwd is not even remotely cheaper. you have to do all sorts of shit to make it work.
>>14168534
>why don't we do x
That's not how business works anon, its more about
>why would we do x
Why scrap countless years and money used to develop front and mid mounted engines for rear?
>>14168572
Just like front engine, rear wheel drive cars do?
>>14168572
Transverse FWD is cheaper than longitudinal FR style RWD. Transverse rear engine RWD would also be fairly cheap and could use engines already used in transverse FWD.
>>14168572
>this is false. fwd is not even remotely cheaper. you have to do all sorts of shit to make it work.
Nope. A Mexican company managed to make a rear engine RWD design very cheaply using slightly modified transverse Ford engines.
>>14168534
>sedan
Because that's the most fucking retarded idea I've ever heard. The point of a sedan is that the rear seats are actually usable.
rear engined, RWD, four doors.
nigger sedans are 4 comfort thats why
pic related a comfy sedan
>>14168568
>front wheel drive tanks
Ive read some stupid shit but god damn
>>14168568
Tanks have tracks mate
Bring back the T700.
Pretty sure the only current rear engine sedan is the "rear motor" Tesla Model S.
>>14168534
Because Tatra stopped car production in 1999
You can have a rear engined twingo though
>>14168534
Upon first hearing this it sounds like the stupidest idea ever but actually, why not? You can make RR out of a FF car by just putting it on the rear wheels. Toyota did it for the MR2. If you make the front end long enough, you'll have lots of space for a trunk. The only disadvantage I see of the bat is, that you can't fold the seats for more space and the engine bay is more cramped so it should be harder to work on.
>>14169685
The MR2 is MR
MR and RR are different
>build rear engine sedans
>cooling becomes total shit because the engine sits in the air flow free part of the car
>steering becomes total shit because there's no weight over the front axle unless you go out of your way to weigh it down
>BUT MUH NOVELTY
>>14169715
Porsche and many other companies managed to over come those issues.
In a sedan you'll just have 4 doors instead of 2 compared to a 911.
It's not that big of a deal if it's already been figured out
>RR
>Unibody
>IRS
>Turbocharged
Way ahead of its time tbqh
>>14169685
engine behind/on rear axle = rr
engine in front of/on rear axle = mr
>>14168534
>whatisvwbeetle?
>>14169784
And unlike the ugly fucking coupe the sedan actually has presentable proportions.
>>14169793
yeah it looks sexy
>>14169381
Drive sprocket was at the front, as was the transmission. Helped with going over trenches and other obstacles with more weight in the front rather than all at the back.
>>14169381
>>14169392
They also have drive wheels.
>>14169788
Not a sedan?
>>14169852
it's a 2-door sedan senpai, the trunk is at front
>>14169896
eh, thats more of a coupe.
>>14168534
like this ?
>>14169896
>it's a 2-door sedan
ehhhh
>>14169910
no that's what sedans looked like in the 40's
>>14168534

That's why it never made it over. Shame, looks like a reasonable car except that dashboard. That dashboard is a mess.
Dodge charger
>>14168534
There are a lot of rear-engined mini cars.
>>14170787
Well, if brand new isn't a problem there are plenty of options of MF cars, and they handle very well.
>>14170385
except advertising, they at least got that right.

Man, that was a weird period.

With light front it was challenge to drive in strong wind. Thanks engineers for small weak 1 liter engine in back, so you wont gain speed that will kill you.

New 911?

hello reddit

I thought that was some kind of rear engine camaro mock up at first.
