Hey /o/, how do I get over my fear of seeing cops while driving? I got pulled over and arrested for faking the registration sticker for my car last year and got a one month jail sentence, $5000 fine and 3 years probation. Now I've done everything to make sure my registration, insurance and everything is up to date but I still feel so scared shitless driving and thinking I might get pulled over again and thrown to jail again for whatever reason.

It's really embittering me because I know I was guilty and did something wrong but at the same time it was a horrible experience in jail and I still live in so much fear of the cops now. Do I just simply suck it up and move on?
>>
>>14168326
Which country/state?

Been there done that when i wrote off my old car
>>
Did you sharpie over your sticker?
>>
>>14168326
Did you post about getting arrested here? Where you the one who they let go but we're going to arrest later?
>>
Got a failure to maintain control charge knocked down to improper driving, but it'll go back up and I'll probably lose my license if I get any sort of ticket in the next year or so.

Cops scare the shit out of me now, didn't care at all before.
>>
>>14168348
Oh you mean like a probation? Seems you got fucked did you have decent legal advise?
>>
I do not understand why they even have registration stickers anymore. They just run your plate and see if it is expired or not.
>>
I got pulled over because a cop didn't know the new NC tags... Then they found out I had a warrant on me for a failure to appear that my shitty lawyer forgot to take care of. Spent 5hrs in jail waiting for my mommy to find a bondsman.

Basically move on, and never do it again while being a good citizen.
>>
>>14168332
California

>>14168346
Yeah I posted about it several months ago on /o/

>>14168337
I printed a copy. Was too poor to afford paying registration and now I'm still pretty fucked. Have to take payday loans now.
>>
>>14168351
i am assuming yanks then
>>
>>14168354
Yeah thats pretty nasty did you have a lawyer or?
>>
>>14168351

So they have a clear reason to pull you over besides "We ran your plate through our automated plate checker 9000" which some group or another would file a suit over for reasons.
>>
>>14168351
The sticker proves you paid state tax on your ride for the year.

AND HEAVEN FORBID YOU DONT PAY THE GOVERNMENT FOR HAVING A CAR.
>>
>>14168363
Of course not, I could only get a "public defendant". I was fucking stupid and believed him when he told me that I would probably just get a fine but the judge threw the book at me and told me to be thankful that I wasn't charged for a felony instead.

I still keep having nightmares about the whole experience, I just woke up a while ago again from one. I don't know what to do at this point, feel like I'm still trapped in a hamster wheel.
>>
>>14168351
meter maids, probably.
>>
>>14168326
Yes, because my insurance expired because my grandma went senile a few days before she died, and her handwriting was too bad for the mail people to read, so it wasn't paid and I have been surprise uninsured for a month and I just found out.
Now I have no money and no insurance, and a dead grandma.

>implying the justice system isn't cruel and unusual in and of it's self
>implying it's for anyone but the insurance companies to require you to have liability
>implying if it was actually a law to help people, the government wouldn't have a subsidized insurance company operated by the DMV or something
>>
>>14168370
you can own a car without paying tax, you just won't be able to drive on tax-funded roads.
>>
>>14168392
Literally none of the tax I pay on my car goes to fund roads where I usually drive.

Most of my home tax does though.

makes perfect sense.
>>
>>14168392
So I can drive on toll roads with no tags?
>>
don't break the law .. and if you get pulled over don't be sassy, arrogant or some other kind of annoying dick

not that hard
>>
>>14168410
Are police allowed to patrol private roads?
>>
>>14168420
>>14168410

HiPo will fuck your shit because they'll find a way.
>>
>>14168417
>if you get pulled over don't be sassy, arrogant or some other kind of annoying dick

why do people think this?

If you for instance, have a warrant out for your arrest you think the officer is going to not arrest you because you baked him cookies?
>>
>>14168326
My tag is expired I've been pulled over twice without a ticket. Bad luck dude.
>>
>>14168445
What the hell, what state? Are you white?
>>
I've been driving without valid registration or insurance since October if this year, here in ontario I just slapped my 2017 sticker plates on the back of my car and they tried to give me some stupid temporary sticker until I paid the 500$ hst on te purchase of my used vehicle is bullshit. Don't get caught I've done time for charges cops will pull you over and fuck your life up just be smart about it

Take your time, don't speed, take familiar routes avoid Rush hours and acting suspiciously
>>
>>14168383
See im aussie and even i know never trust public defenders they are usually the ones too shit to get a real job or newbies

You should have just got a decent lawyer something now you realize is cheaper than getting assfucked by the law
>>
>>14168463
>>14168383
Why the fuck did you think you could pass off a fake registration? You know it's kind of in the name "register" that it's not JUST a piece of paper, it's "registered" to a database.

California, everybody.
>>
>>14168437
Yeah but if you're a cunt they will find a way to fuck your shit up.

If you're nice they'll do the bare minimum and only do you if you actually did something.
>>
>>14168488
Turned a little inconvenience into fraud.
>>
>>14168488
Because I'm fucking poor. Now I'm even poorer and doubly twice as fucked with a criminal record. I don't know what to do anymore. I've only paid off $800 of the $5000 fine and I'm scared they might throw me in jail again if I can't pay it anymore and lose my shitty job.
>>
>>14168600
Exactly stupid
>>
there's only one thing to do, learn the language of the police, earn their trust, breed with their women, and in time our differences will be forgotten
>>
>>14168600
What other bills do you have?

Ask for help from mommy. That's what she's there for.
>>
>>14168631
I don't have any contact with any family, I'm doing this all alone. I barely have enough to pay the bills, that's why I had to take out payday loans to make it.
>>
>>14168349
Yeah, I got a bit fucked, and nope, should have gotten a lawyer.

Hit a patch of gravel on a turn and understeered off the road into a tree, but it was dark out and I didn't realize that was what caused me to lose traction until after I had already talked with the cop. Made the mistake of telling him I wasn't sure what happened and I must have been going too fast in the turn.

Went back afterwards, saw where I hit the gravel, and took pictures and showed them to the judge, but I don't think they did shit for me because what he gave me was standard for anyone with a clean record.

>>

declare yourself bankrupt, join the army.
>>
>>14168716
I already tried too actually, the recruiter tried to get me a waiver because of my record but couldn't get one, not easy to get into the military anymore.
>>
>>14168695
You don't seem to understand.

The fact that he forged a document made it worlds worse than if he simply didn't have it.
The difference between jail time, 3 years probation and a fine, as opposed to a citation and maybe impounding his vehicle, but he could have slept in his own bed that night and rode a bike to work.
>>
>>14168716
>the army won't take you with a record

The idea is that they're trustworthy. We're not just sending them wave after wave against a bunch of screaming chinamen anymore.
>>
>>14168792
They forgive or "waiver" petty shit.

Basically you're in unless you murdered someone.
>>
Nigga, you need to fucking Google "personal finance" and get yourself a plan, like, yesterday.

Start asking for more hours at work, and tell your boss about your money situation. Go full rice and beans on your diet, and cut out all of your expenses that aren't vital. You can easily raise five grand in a year if you're disciplined about it and have a job.
>>
>>14168818
What kind of car?
>>
>>14168786
I never got the car out, they impounded it. The tow yard that impounded it keeps harassing me with debt collection calls and mail, demanding I pay them $3000 for "storage fees". I'm just lucky to have something else to drive right now, I'm driving an old Chevy van that my neighbor sold to me for cheap.

>>14168807
I don't know what else to do, I'm just thankful I still even have a job right now. I've thought about living in my vehicle so I don't have to rent an apartment anymore but I already did that several years ago and it was horrible because it's impossible to find someplace safe to park, and the cops will harass you and threaten to tow your car away.
>>
>>14168837

Living in your vehicle is legitimately unsafe, and seriously takes its toll on your body and mind. Don't do that.

Go around your neighborhood on the weekends and ask your neighbors if they have any odd jobs around the house you could help out with, and ask for more hours at work.

Also, talk to your fucking family. It doesn't matter that you're estranged. They're blood, they might help you.
>>
>>14168451

Just made it back from Montreal to Ottawa in less than one hour lol. I don't know man I'm not really afraid of cops cause I've never been pulled over my entire life and I've been driving for 8 years now. I understand speeding like that is pretty stupid though.
>>
>Driving for 5 years
>Pulled over by cops once
>Random breath test and license check
>2 minutes, no problems, I'm free to go

>Friend pulled over for doing 79 in a 60 zone
>In Australia, where being >25km/h over the limit is an automatic conviction
>Apologised, explained he was careless and wasn't paying attention, otherwise clean driving record
>Let off with a warning

>Same friend pulled over because his registration was due the previous day
>He paid it the morning after it was due
>Explained this to the cop, showed the invoice, free to go after a breath test

Your attitude towards cops is key when you're interacting with them. Sure, some of them are assholes, but if they're not, being polite can help you talk your way out of a lot of things. Meanwhile if you starts acting all hostile from the get-go, you're pretty much guaranteed to get fucked.

>AM I BEING DETAINED
>DO YOU HAVE A WARRANT
>I'M NOT DRIVING, I'M TRAVELING
>>
>>14168437
>don't break the law

i said don't be a sassy, arrogant dick and you heard bake cookies

you're the kind of cunt who gets fucked up by cops..

Or live off oats for a few bucks a week.
>>
>>14168855
I'd rather be homeless or live in the van than ever go back to jail. My family have no ties to each other, haven't spoken to them in years.

>>14168879
I'm not sure if I can even keep my composure if I get pulled over again and threatened by a cop. I'd rather be dead than ever go back.
>>
>>14168942
>threatened by a cop
But that's the thing, I've literally never seen this happen, as long as the person being pulled over has kept it civil. Though I would believe that US cops could be more uptight than ours.
>>
>>14168942
Nobody is saying you need to go back to jail. I looked at the archive because I remembered the original thread, it said you lent your car to your brother and he got pulled over.

Then fucking get your brother to help you out, considering that he was in on ruining your life. It's five fucking grand, and you have a job. Move in with him to save on rent for six months and you're done, fuck.
>>
>>14168985
He ditched me after all this happened, as far as I'm concerned he doesn't exist anymore.
>>
>>14168955

Fucking retard.
>>
>>14169041
Source now, And lemme guess its not in the news becuase the guy was white
>>
What was jail like, OP?
>>
>>14169134
White on white crime is just soooooo underreported.
>>
The only way you're going to go to jail during a traffic stop is if you have a bench warrant.
So check the courts site or call and ind out if you have any or any open case files.

If you don't then move on with your life. You aren't going to jail for a traffic infraction.
>>
I got pulled over about a month ago for plates that were two years expired. I'd been pulled over before and the cops seem to be more and more amazed each time that I "haven't been pulled over yet". I just didn't care enough to go get everything renewed since the DMV is a pain. I did get a $75 ticket each time, and finally a month ago I got a ticket and the cops took the plates off my car instead of impounding it. When I calculated the cost of paying the three tickets and getting new plates, it was actually significantly cheaper than doing things the law-abiding way.

For future reference, don't try to fake any vehicle information because the punishments are pretty severe, as you found out the hard way. Don't worry about getting thrown in jail for no reason while you're out driving. That's no way to live and only leads to psychological problems down the road. If you're really worried, just call your local courthouse and ask if there's anything that would prevent you from legally driving or would get you jail time.

Alternatively, you could just go full Heat and rob people for a living.
>>
>>14168326
>Jail
>for fake rego
MURICA!!!!!! LAND OF THE FREE*!!!!!!!!
>>
>>14169295
> Car plate sticker cost is like $48 a year
> ~$100 and 1 hour of your time
> Three $75 tickets for being an aspie fucktard
> $150 + plate being taken?
>>
>be out driving erratically
>90mph in a 30
>mad skidz round roundabout
>hear sirens
>park up and turn engine and lights off
>be super on edge watching the police car pass
>drive home at 20mph

There's like a 1% chance it was for me, but still scary.
>>
>>14169041

Shouldn't have ran, should've just pulled over and been polite.
>>
>>14168879

Reminded me about something that happened to me last summer

>Got shitfaced with some friends
>One of the friends has a car and decides to take us all home
>And I mean we are really shitfaced, only strong drinks during the whole night, tequila, whiskey, vodka etc
>Get pulled over
>well fuck
>License and registration etc.
>did you drink
>yes I did officer
>get out to take a breath test
>but I don't need to officer, I already told you I'm drunk
>cop laughs and tells us to get the fuck out of here
>>
>>14168326

I mean it would be understandable if you spent couple of years there, but you were there only a month

This fat fuck got off with the bullshit excuse that it was "accidental".

The guy also died.
>>
>>14168326
Here's a suggestion: don't do something stupid like fake your registration sticker.

You obviously admitted fault and lost your court case, otherwise you could have said Johnny did it and you didn't notice.

>>14168370
Heaven forbid you drive on roads paid for by the state. Commercial truck drivers should be required to pay 90 times the registration fee, though, considering the damage they do.
