What makes you rage /o/?
For me it's this flat tire in the pic that just fucking happened, and my mom starting the car when its running, as well as people driving cars when they're cold.

>Implying the engine is the only thing on your car with moving parts that require lubrication.

Enjoy creating unnecessary wear on your transmission.
>>
>>14165860
In a manual, the transmission warms up and lubricates by driving it
>>
>>14165860
They've done studies on this. I don't have any citations on it, so I guess it's just a comment, but the amount of difference in wear warming your car vs driving it lightly the first few miles was negligible. As long as you're going easy on the car, the only difference is your comfort.

The heat generated from friction is infinitesimal.

Heat transfer from the engine is the primary source.

Yeah, and the engine heats it up by driving as well. The difference between running under 2500rpm and idle is negligible, and won't effect wear.

Mentally underdeveloped drivers in cheap piece of shit trashed cars. Chavs, for those who are familiar with the term.

>riding around with my parents in our ford galaxy, which just had the fuel system bled
>narrow two lane country road, a lot of sitting water and heavy fog

>suddenly hear beeping from right behind us

>pic related overtakes us, barely managing to pick up any speed despite us going only 30

Actually, even if you go below 2500RPM it's the torque that kills the bearings that aren't oiled in yet.
idling puts little stress to the engine while pushing your car on low RPM means high stress towards moving parts.
This instead turns to uneven weari bearings instead of full wear.
And no, it's not better. If you wear one side you still need to change both sides.
>>
>>14166090
That hasn't been a problem for years. Modern oiling systems already make up for that, and even if it didn't idling an engine puts the bearings under just as much stress as easy driving. That is to say almost none.

People don't spin their bearings driving easy. It happens from either oil starvation or driving hard.
>>
>>14166116
While synthetic oil ridiculously much better than mineral oil it still takes some time for it to penetrate into the bearings and into the camshaft.
I'm not one of those that say idle 10 minutes, I mean 15-20 seconds before driving away.
>>
>>14166134
That's pretty reasonable. I take ~15 seconds after starting anyway to put my seat belt on and plug my phone in.
I know people who start their car up like, 15 minutes before they leave which I find unnecessary.
>>
>>14166090
Well, I mean... no.
>Actually, even if you go below 2500RPM it's the torque that kills the bearings that aren't oiled in yet.
...which would be an issue if you dismantled your engine and wiped every drop of oil from every surface after every drive
>idling puts little stress to the engine while pushing your car on low RPM means high stress towards moving parts.
negligible in either situation
>This instead turns to uneven weari bearings instead of full wear.
And no, it's not better. If you wear one side you still need to change both sides.

driving when cold does nothing unless youre literally redlining the engine.
even then, ive heard of people saying you need to thoroughly warm up 2 strokes, i daily drive a 2 stroke motorbike and have never warmed up and dont really take it easy on her ever, been doing this for a year and it has never seized on me
>>
A warm engine before you leave is nice, but not necessary.

What is necessary however, is allowing enough time from start up to let the oil make a lap around the engine before driving it.

This idiot I knew in highschool ran out to his fwd shit box and fired it up, instantly slammed it into reverse and floored it trying to do a sick jturn out of his parking spot.
He got his Jay turn, but spun a bearing before even leaving the lot.
>>
>40mph busy road

No problem, he's probably broke down or some shit.

>have to drive super slow to squeeze through his parked car and the oncoming (equally cautious and slow) traffic

>get back in my lane and check my rearview mirror

yeah ok
>>
>>14167781
OP here with the shit hyundai, I'm not in the transmission debate.
>>
>>14167230

That's exactly the correct way.

Waiting just some seconds for oil pressure and then driving away. An engine is a concoction of piece and it doesn't warm up all over if it isn't driven. Warming up stationary takes longer and doesn't warm the engine equally.
>>
>>14165860
It's not too bad if you don't go full out race car before it has a chance to warm up. I usually drive gently at 2k RPMs or under until the oil is warm. That gives the oil and transmission time to warm up properly.
>>
Bostonfag here.

When it gets cold, I let my car warm up for 5-15 minutes. Depends on how much time I have to spare in my morning routine.

I don't do it for the engine, or the transmission. In fact, I actually just wait for the heater inside my cabin to bring the temps to a toasty temperature. Fuck driving in a cold car. Also, the heated seats take a little while to heat up as well.
>>
>>14167781

If its an auto the transmission might have a cooling loop on or in the engine radiator, so it could be warming up once the coolant is flowing.

I work about the most you can work for part time, I've got a year of experience at my first job, so i'm looking at full time stuff now.
>>
>>14167922

That just takes longer since the heater also takes heat from the engine.

Easiest and fastest way to get heat is to drive, with the heater off, and in a couple miles youll already have heat and the engine will get to temp much faster.
>>
>>14168088
Literal chump change. I make that in about an hour and a half lol.

>be driving on motorway
>passing some people in middle lane
>see to my right, happily minding his own business, is bloke in Ferrari F430
>He's going a bit quicker than my lane; not hugely so, but a bit

Speaking of people running motors cold....

You hear some shockers around trawler berths. These guys have big diesels with lots of torque and they use it. Slam them into full ahead, back into full astern, clouds of black billowing out etc etc.

But often you can hear a trawler skipper fire up a dead cold motor and throw it into gear with plenty of beans and off they go. You can dead set hear the rattle and exhaust note change as oil finally reaches the rockers standing on the wharf.

There is one in particular that I'm thinking of that has a wet exhaust where the exhaust gas is mixed with the raw sea water after it has been used to cool the motor and transmission before discharge overboard. This shithole of a boat leaves a dirty big oil slick behind it every time until it's warm as they hammer the shit out of it with some sort of lube problem (maybe stem seals, turbo seals, who knows).

>250 hp super powerful xDDD
What are you on? My car has a 300 hp 4 cylinder. You're fucking retarded, anon.

Holy shit. The car culture in my area has been polluted recently by fake farm boys who buy pickups with Realtree AP stickers, wear camouflage and Chevy hats, and vape constantly. Their trucks are always spotless and they will ALWAYS try to race anybody and everybody.
>I used to go down to the loop (where we meet) in my first car, a 2001 Dodge Neon

I lol'd. So there it is, the actual, perfect (and only?) example of buying bigger car as a compensation for small dick, as people tend to say.

>driving more than 5% under the speed limit on highways
If you live in America, where almost all cars are at least 100hp it's really annoying. But in europoor it's sometimes obvious. Too many flip -prone (at higher speeds) miniboxes with super small engines.

BTW, how should I call myself if I'm interested in cars etc but not own o approved (RWD, fast etc) car bruh?

Lol. At least they aren't super hot then super cold in the summer/winter.
>>
>>14165811
I hear some say its better to just start driving strait away to get the oil to temperature quicker than just idling
mind that it does not get very cold here aside from near the mountains

Is it possible for this Astra to rev up that high cold or does the driver push it so hard? Mind it's running on E85.

>people driving cars when they're cold

It takes literally two minutes to warm up once I start driving. That's literally out of the driveway and halfway out the village I live in.
Or out of the car park at work and partway down the road.

Of course, every morning is driving the car while I'm cold. It takes a few minutes more for the heater to kick in, but oh god when it does it's so warm.
I just crank it all the way up, fuck the thermal shock to my system when I get out into subzero cold.

What makes me rage, though?
> Hampshire
The concepts of giving way, letting people out of junctions, and three lane motorways are foreign there.

> Cindy.
My sat-nav. She speaks up at the worst moments, or lights up with full brightness at night sometimes, wiping out my nightvision.

> Badly-maintained cars
Why did you let it RUST? Don't you KNOW how much smoke's spewing out your exhaust? Can't you smell it? Can't you see the cloud? Fuck, I can see it AND smell it, go get your turbo fixed.
Followed a car for a few miles once, wincing every time it went over a bump, because the exhaust was literally hanging off it. It seemed to be going to a mechanic, though.

> Buses
Even when they work, they stink. Especially the biofuel ones. They have dedicated lanes, fuck up light timings, delay me, and stop the whole damn town when they stop to let old people off.

> Fog
WATER SHOULD STAY ON THE FUCKING GROUND. Not suspended in the air like this. And clouds should be higher up.

> Temporary flooding due to bad drainage
Waves higher than my fucking car sometimes. Just clear the fucking drains, and shape the road so the water flows off instead of staying!

>I have the money to buy a little shitty car, but i don't want to, I enjoy being able to hold onto money and put it towards something better.
Good. However, you should drive a cheap falling apart little shitbox sometime. Everybody should, if only to value how good a newer car is.
>>
>>14168514
It IS an investment, considering how much less I'm paying to finance and maintain it versus fixing a shitbox that ran over a rust monster once.
And it's more an investment in my well-being anyway, because the heater works and doesn't reek of burning oil, the brakes don't strain my knee, and the clutch isn't heavy as fuck.
And I don't have to keep squirting WD-40 onto the gas pedal to make it move properly.

(Continuing)
Once you get a Real Job, save up a grand or so, and buy an old hot hatch. Power steering, but nothing else. Drive it until it dies, bring it back from the dead with cheap parts, and kill it again. Then go back to your regular, newer, nicer car and love it even more.
But you'll never forget that shitbox you just didn't care about breaking.
>>
>>14177751
Aw yeah man I know how to appreciate a newer car, the sonata I do get to drive isn't perfect either, it needs alot of work, Rotors n pads, a new cv axle, and one of the valve covers is leaking a tiny bit. Hell, I might even throw on a new accessory belt since it's 6 years old.
