Why is Toyota not producing any good sports car since 2000?
I like the Gt86 but it's more Subaru than Toyota with that boxer engine. Why are they doing that instead of developing with Yamaha a great L4/6 engine that normal people can afford, like they used to do
This new supra isnt going to be an affordable daily sports car, its going to cost like 150k+ and will be some kind of hybrid with more computer power than a google server to compete with at least the new NSX
>>
People want cars that do everything.

Brands want to sell as much as possible.

This results in cars that all look like averaged blobs that do everything 'meh'
>>
>>14165727
I'm sorry but this concept looks stupid as shit. Why does toyota fuck up so unapologetically?

>its going to cost like 150k+

I thought it was going to cost like $70,000-90,000?

Disappointed its going to be another AWD Twin turbo six cylinder with semi-auto transmission only though.. The vette offers Manual, Automatic, and semi-auto clutch.

Snek also still comes with Manual only (even though it ultimately hurts its sales)

Maybe Honda and Toyota are hoping they strike gold like the R35.
>>
>>14165772
>>14165727
Okay which one is uglier cast your vote now!!!
>>
Because Toyota cares more about dominating the consumer market.

They see no point in sports cars anymore because just like scion found out, things like a sports car don't sell well next to a corolla on the sales floor.
>>
>>14165745
Marketingfag here, basically this. Since Toyota established itself as a reliable DD (even if it is boring as shit which most normies don't care about) it was more profitable to go the WE WANT TO APPEAL TO A WIDER AUDIENCE ROUTE rather than shit out sports cars that likely couldn't even compete with others in their respective bracket. You also have the issue of Toyota being associated with boring shitboxes which is why Scion exists however even that has an abysmal reputation seeing it caters mostly to 16-30 year old girls who don't know shit about cars.
>>
>>14165794
I should clarify; cheap, reliable DD*

Maybe Toyota should focus more on their other industries like building houses and not diluting the auto sector with garbage.
>>
>>14165745
they dont even make "sportier" versions of their regular models, like Type R or AMG...
I mean was TRD all fired?

KILL YOURSELF. SERIOUSLY THATS NOT A JOKE I'M NOT TRYING TO BE CUTE YOU SHOULD KILL YOURSELF. THE FASTER THE BETTER FOR ALL OF HUMANITY. TRY NOT TO INCONVENIENCE ANYBODY ELSE WHEN YOU DO IT THOUGH, LIKE IF YOU WANT TO JUMP OFF A BRIDGE DO IT LATE AT NIGHT WHEN THERES NOT MUCH TRAFFIC. I HEARD HOPPING IN FRONT OF A FREIGHT TRAIN IS CAKE TRY IT OUT. PLEASE.

>>

Because none of you have any money. The people who can afford sports car buy expensive nice ones. No one wants a "bargain" sports car anymore. Except ford cucks.
>>
>>14165866

Except 99% of people buying cars don't give a shit about sports cars.
>>
>>14165727
Japan's economy is stagnant.
USA only wants trucks and kuckovers
Yuropoors won't buy anything without a German badge

Both are suicide inducing.

>tfw no mk4
>>
>>14165865
Pretty much this, the Supra was always their top range sports car. The MR2 and Celica were lower range cars, and the GT86 fits into that bracket.

I am anxious to see what the FT-1 will actually become, if it's ever made. But more than that, i feel they need to engage two markets they're missing out on hugely, a cheap 2 seater roadster (new MR2), and a decent hot hatch.
>>
>>14165819
Advertisers are 95% of the dickshits who annoy you, not us.
>>14165830
It depends what you consider "sportier"; that's a generic buzzword you can slap on any econobox that handles better than an oil tanker. What /o/ doesn't realize is normies don't want a SOOPER LIGHTWEIGHT RWD MANUAL SPORTS CAR WITH NO KEK SAFETY FEATURES and as a brand who caters to normies Toyota is not in much of a position get innovative.
>>14165882
Most people who even want sports cars just do for attention; look at the modern Celica's existence; it's pigfat, slow and FWD but normies think it's a sports car. Same for the V6 Mustang minus the FWD part, really.
>>
>>14165882
nice, you pulled that number straight out of your flabby ass. They're called halo cars and whoever makes the decision at GM/Nissan/Toyota etc. who produce these do them for a reason. Toyota made nothing on the LFA, and Nissan/GM/Chrysler don't make much bank on the GT-R, Viper or Corvette. Yet they do them for the halo effect.

I mean, fuck, look at Subaru. They attracted an entire generation of boy-racers, including myself, with STi's handiwork at the WRC. Pre Impreza STi, Subaru was a super-boring, super-cheap manufacturer that no young man would give a shit about.

Now, the name is on the map, and even non-WRX/STi Subarus are much more desired by your average consumer that gives one shred of a shit about performance, because the name Subaru is associated with fast hold wheels big wing turbo 4wd so cool.
>>
>>14165880
There will be always a place in the market for that kind of car.
Why do you think there are guys giving shitloads of money for old sport Toyotas? one of the reasons is because they can't buy a new one
>pic related overpriced as fuck
>>
>>14165772

>>

>building sport cars also works as Marketing
Ony when the potential buyers care. Which for almost all Toyota products, they don't.

>>14165830
Not all, but some. And the amount of money to be made is small, since numbers are small. With a reputation for cheap and ulimtely boring cars they also likely wouldn't sell well (and give a bad image in 20 years when teenagers can afford one to rice out). They'd have to make the car a lot better than one with a fitting rep to make good sales. Too bad those usually aren't that bad either, so that doesn't work out without killing margines.
>>
>>14165928

Go ask most non-car people what an STI is and they will give you a blank stare.

Go ask about a LFA, Or even AMG or M series.

Most people will not know what the fuck you are talking about.

Only car people give a shit about Halo cars, There are very few sports car known to people and those are the ones that have gone back decades like viper, corvette, mustang, charger ect.

Like I said, Sports cars don't mean shit to the majority of car buyers.
>>

>>14165880

>>14165930
Have to also blame Initial D and the I KNOW WHAT I GOT crowd mixing with disastrous. If you want a good sports car from that era you're not going to be looking for an AE86.
>>14165866
That's not what marketing is.
>>
>>14165930

If there wasn't Initial D the ae86 probably would be selling for 2-3k right now like any car its age.
>>
>>14165955
>disastrous
results.

Like virtually any car from the 80s you're buying it more for novelty than performance

>Yuropoors won't buy anything without a German badge

The irony is that German car makers like to jew you out of as much money as they can get away with...

A Base BMW M3 comes with pretty much nothing and the rest of the luxuries are optional extras. (as with almost all german cars)

Even on Germany's lower tier cars such as VW have much higher maintenance (R32 golf)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCC8mWoQ0QM

Sucks though since i always wanted a M3 CSL

>>14165939
They're big in the UK and most of europe.
>>
>>14165982
I don't even know who I'm arguing with anymore but I'm not disagreeing with you.

>>14165987
Post-E46 BMW only really exists because of how infatuated normies are with the badge. If you want a entry-level sporty luxury car then go Audi, if you want entry-level comfy luxury cars then go MB (or Lexus). For its class modern BMW has sub-standard driver-feedback and sub-standard interiors; it doesn't do anything particularly well besides marketing.

you just regurgitated exactly what you said in your previous post, even though I proved you wrong. You're pulling numbers out of your ass. These multi billion dollar corporations, with greedy stock holders clamoring at them to make as many dollars as possible do NOT invest a huge chunk of money into racing and their performance car divisions because they just feel like it.

Halo cars are proven to be effective for marketing, and I dont care how many times you shout "I bet if you asked like 10 people not many of them would know about the LFA". Your silly argument does not stand up to the millions or billions these companies put into marketing research, and their research tells them halo cars are effective.
>>
>>14166008
Or better yet don't go MB because they're responsible for the 25 year import law after giving Americans dogshit cars while also running Chrysler into the ground.
>>
>>14166019

Most comapnies invest in racing to invest in new technology.

And even then many companies race purely for the dick waging at other companies, and even then many have been pulling out of race series.

Your talk doesn't match up to actual facts, that companies don't actually make money on these cars. These cars are purely a pride item.

Autocompanies make money on the economy cars, and the people buying economy cars don't gve a shit about the halo cars.
