Higher pricing and insurance on Ralliart and Evo compared to WRX and STi and the new Mirage was fucking awful.

Also no competition to the 86/BRZ. They could've revived the FTO or Eclipse for this.

the modern car market is too competitive. OEM costs are huge and its very difficult to establish a competitive edge. contrary to enthusiast daydreams, performance vehicles are not a high profit segment for most companies, and mitsubishi lost on the volume market way harder than it lost on its lancer evo.

the current status of automotive sales is that some smaller oems who are unable to find a suitable niche will simply be chewed up and will have to bow out. VW would've already had to (in north america anyway) had they not had a huge cash reserve to fall on.

mitsubishi simply has no competitive edge on anything. theyre too small to keep up with the likes of toyota, and the lancer evo is not interesting enough to gain enough sales to stay afloat. they lack the R&D budget necessary to design interesting new vehicles year after year, and the whole fleet is extremely dated except for their last-ditch-effort outlander redesign. if that thing tanks (and it probably will) you'll see mitsubishi pull out of america.

who's next? probably scion, but they have daddy warbucks to prop them up if necessary, mitsubishi simply does not.
>>
>>14162193
to add to this, im really only talking about mitsubishi's automotive wing, i cant comment on their other industrial offerings (of which there are a huge amount)

and even if they quit making their own cars im sure theyd stick around as an automotive supplier

The most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.

Still performs well, 255,000 miles and has had no mechanical problems whatsoever and I hit two deer simultaneously going 45 MPH and it did nothing but lose the grill and crack the bumper.

Gets about 25 to a gallon after all these years and has some of the most comfortable seats you'll ever sit in. The speaker system still is loud and works perfectly fine and houses 9 speakers all together. I blast music at full volume and still they have yet to blow out.

Only maintenance this car has ever received is new tires, fresh oil and fluids.

The first thing that comes in mind when I see mitsubishi's name is 'unreliable'.

Literally they can't compete with toyota, mazda and city.

It's a good thing that they're dying in the US
>>
>>14167580
>my opinion is fact

>>

The last gen eclipse.
>>
Mitsubishi has been producing heaping shit ever since Chrysler got a stake in them.

Every Montero I've ever come across has a ticking time bomb of an engine with constant valve chatter and excessive oil burning. Eclipses have become unrespectable rice garbage cans ever since 2fast2furious highschool fans do poor modifications on them, and for the original ones were just as unreliable as the rest. 3000gt's have a tendency to have a complete drivetrain failure in about 90k miles.

Mitsubishi is like the Chrysler of the Japanese car world. I wouldn't even buy their TV's.
>>
>>14167801
Chrysler never had any stake in them and the only Monteros you come across are Sports owned by the absolute poorest people that haven't maintained them in years.

I keep hearing that Mitsubishis are reliable and unreliable in almost equal capacity, and they aren't on the Consumer Report surveys so I can't verify either.

Which is it /o/?
>>
>>14167853
I've actually owned Mitsubishi vehicles, new, and they have been incredibly reliable. The reason I don't own one, anymore, is that parts support in the USA is fucking garbage.
>>
>>14162022

I like how America preserved that plane and put it on display for everyone to come and see. It's like they're saying "Look everyone, this is what we used to utterly FUCK THE SHIT out of Japan, and win the war."

I like that. As a modest Canadian, I like that.

Fuck Japan.

That's my main concern with importing an Evo. They weren't even sold in Canada until the X version, and they weren't popular in the US, so I'd be importing a lot of parts. Something I'd probably have to do a lot since I want to track day/touge with it on the weekends.
>>
>>14167861

Protip: just about every car is reliable if you buy it new. There are very few vehicles that one could legitimately label as "unreliable" in the first few years of their life.

It's when they get past that 5-6 year mark, and you've got over 100,000 km on them. That's when they start to tell you if they're a reliable vehicle.

A fucking Chrysler product will be reliable for at least the first few years you own it, despite being a horrendous piece of shit inside and out. It's when you've had it for ~4-5 years that it'll start costing you fuckloads of cash.
>>
>>14167884
You could actually probably get parts faster importing them than you could ordering them from the North American dealer network, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Good thing I owned all of my Mitsubishi's well over 5 years and well over 100,000km.
>>
>>14167901
Any chance you could list the Mits you've owned with the odos for each?

Do you keep them in a heated or garage or outdoors? That kind of matters to.
>>
>>14167901

Good thing then. Wasn't knocking Mitsubishi, I've always known them to be relatively reliable vehicles. Anything Japanese is usually a half-decent vehicle, even if it's the most basic shitbox. The Mirage is probably better made than the Chrysler 300 or Ford Fusion 2bh m8.
>>
>>14167839
Oh I'm sorry, the "DSM" alliance. 90's were a terrible decade for both.
>>
>>14167909
1993 Montero SR I bought with 50,000 miles and got rid of with 320,000 miles in 1998. Then bought a 1999 Montero, new, and drove that until it had 250,000 miles, 25% of which were off road doing stupid speed. It was fine, but I drove a 2006 Montero and it was such a nice vehicle, I had to get one. So I did, and I drove that until it had 400,000 miles. Just sold it this year because the parts supply issues made it not feasible for a daily driver. Around 2010 I wanted another NL Montero so I picked one up and drove that until I couldn't deal with the rust anymore. I was pretty impressed with the condition from spending so much time on a salty coastal area that got snow with practically no maintenance.

Most of these were just stored in a regular garage, but I don't live in a cold climate.
>>
>>14168041
640,000km ain't spectacular but definitely above average. Thanks for the recommend.

Mits are great if you just want a basic "it just werks" car with nothing but the most basic amenities. Want anything more than that? Look elsewhere.
