Are they already trying to keep overall dimensions and weight or did the ride not end yet?

Will they still use the bulging-up cars to cost-effectively making them saver in 2020 or will cars get sleeker again due to new materials like that awesome new sheet metal and/or graphene etc.?

Forgets to mention how much faster and more reliable the f type is

Auto-drive cars and material advances will make cars slim and lightweight again.

But aesthetics wise, they still won't look exactly the way you want them too.
>>
>>14161441

>you will travel dozens of times FASTER without actually going faster than in older cars

>why?
>the car itself is as big as half of the travel distance

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT
>>
>Comparing F-type, a grand tourer convertible to a tiny-ass roadser
That's dumb and this thread is dumb.
The F-type is a strictly better car as well.
>>
>>14161616
>tiny ass roadster

Tiny ass roadster which is very related to it and served the same purpose
>>
Making the cars fatter enables better crumple zones and more space for side airbags.

The IIHS is pushing for more strict safety ratings, arguing that what the government has mandated for fuel economy has improved fleet fuel economy, and thus the same should be done for safety to encourage better improvements. If this trend happens, expect the trend to get worse.

One of the most coveted abilities for car manufacturers is to use homogeneous materials in car construction. That is the future we can expect
>>
>>14164345
calm your autism i own 2 miats

now that you mention it though i know a few stylists and they both drive Camrys

also

Told ya, they're normies and don't give a fuck about what they drive along as it gets them from point A to point B
>>
>>14161026
Peak fatness will be when every car is 8ft wide and you need a wide load pennant with pilot trucks to go any wider.
>>
>Weebs BTFO by their own gods

According to the GT-R’s ‘father’,
Kazutoshi Mizuno, anyway. A while back he animatedly told TG that the legendary supercar had to be that heavy.

“All journalists say GT-R is heavy, heavy, heavy - it should be lighter, lighter, lighter! I say, journalists need to develop a more professional level of thinking! More study! More thought! The GT-R needs to be this weight. A car with less weight does not handle. Lighter weight can be dangerous, and it will not be driveable by all customers.”
>>
>>14164440
So basically they're calling the people who buy GTRs idiots who don't know how to drive?
>>
>>14164329

Convertibles don't need to meet the new rollover crash standards that have led to enormous roof pillars and reinforcements.

I'm willing to bet this thing would only weigh 100 lbs less than the GT86 if it had a hard top.
>>
>>14164454
GTRfags BTFO

>>14164440
But you can have aero for downforce and improved handling without the fat.
>>
>>14164461
Difficult for road cars, the viper has done an excellent job but tbqhf it's much more of a bare racecar than road car
>>
>>14164460
Boxster and Cayman both weigh about the same
>>
>>14161026
just something for you to know
modern cars are lighter per volume than older cars
yet still heavier and larger overall
so if anything new materials will only be used to make the car even bigger

aero requires speed to work
and one of the r35s design goals is to be easy to drive in all weather conditions including snow
>>
>>14164515
I see, but snow handling also has a lot to do with the tires. Also, what about dynamic aero, with flaps like a plane for more effect at lower speeds.
>>
>>14164329
It's sorta' sad that people are so impressed the new Miata is as light and compact as the original, when really shouldn't we expect modern tech' to be lighter than something decades old?
>>
>>14164529
>dynamic areo
one of the pikes peak quad bikes had a system like that
with a moveable flap at each corner that responded to breaking and acceleration as well as cornering
pagani huayra has this also but much less aggressive

and alot of cars since the 70s have had air breaks like the ones found on the McLaren f1 road car and mitsu 3000 gt

as for aerodynamics focussed on low speed
look at the f1 gtr then compare it to the f1 gt long tail

the gt long tail has the same down force potential as the gtr but it comes into effect at much higher speed and with a drag co efferent equivalent to the road car

long tail cars are good for courses with long straits such as Circuit de la Sarthe before the chicanes were put in
or the high speed sections of the north loop
perhaps even avus if you want to go back that far

also there is the idea to have the centre of mass ahead of the centre of pressure
like how a dart or shuttle cock have large feathers behind a small and heavy head
