It's the year 203X and combustion engines have been outlawed in the name of progressiveness, but you're a badass so you decide not to give a shit and a hide a car in your barn for illegal night runs over deserted countryside roads. What is your weapon of choice?

Remember that maintenance and spare parts will be a legal grey zone, you will need to source and potentially refine your own scarce bioethanol or biodiesel, and that you may have to flee from the police.

I'd just drive a slightly sporty but sensible and affordable electric econobox. Like whatever Toyota or Honda bring out to fill the Corolla/Civic niche. Or a Tesla 3.
>>
>>14158929
Exocet with LS3 conversion and then twin turbos slapped on.

Lightweight fiberglass panels for less drag when going super fast.

I will want enough horsepower to outrun whatever shitboxes the near non existent police drive.

1500 should do it.
>>
i'll have a 1995 chevy suburban and i'll crash it into a tesla refill station to protest, then drive a electric prius after im out of jail.

This is actually easier than it sounds.

We're going for items which are common and reliable.

So: Foxbody.

They made shit loads, they're easy to work on, and they work pretty damn well, regardless of what the haters say.

For the engine, I'd go with a 4L69E trans, and an LQ6 6.0l, with twin turbos. Parta are common place, and reliable. The LS series of engines also don't need much to be said about them, we all know what they do.

As for fuel, I'm going a little different: LPG.

Yes, natural gas, like what feeds your oven. You can install hook ups to your house, and retrofit kits are available for cars, and to can even DIY them if ya know what you're doing.

It also has an octane rating of around 130, so its great for boost. It's also fairly energy dense, so a 30 gallon tank will last you hundreds of miles. So fuel is really the easiest, And cheapest sourced item.

With all that working, I would have a reliable, inexpensive, powerful, easily fueled street machine that will fuck up most everything on the road.

This is a board for people who like cars. The actual car, not just the convenience of them.
Like /g/ is for people who like technology, not "wow look at the styling on the new iphone"

What song? I want to listen to it now.

My first choice without thinking:
1989 Audi 200
but then finding spare parts, dealing with it's technological, complicated injection engine.

Nah, one proud choice, reminding me.WHO i am. where im from:

Which was in turn taken from an early 70's Road and Track article Neil Peart read.

>>
>>14162436
Except that's exactly what /g/ is these days, and a CAR is not a fucking engine and nothing else.

Internal combustion is actually pretty shit, by 2030 we'll be driving little 1200kg coupes with 500 mile ranges that do 0-100 in 2.5 seconds while sounding all futuristic as fuck
>>
>>14162526
That's some real retarded scare mongering right there.
>>
Hellcat challenger
I want something that makes a sound that will put the fear of god into people. Yeah it drinks up a lot of fuel but it's for special occasions so fuck it.
Since it's a newer car getting parts for it should be easier and it will be more reliable anyway.
>>
>>14162646
>fear of god
Except all they need to do is find a corner.
>more reliable
It's a dodge, moron.
>>
>>14162659
>It's a dodge, moron.
If I'm going to hide an illegal car it's gonna be cool and that means a muscle car. Modern mustangs are more reliable than challengers but they're less cool. Old muscle cars are cooler but they aren't reliable.
The challenger is right in the center of the reliable/cool venn diagram.

Asshole.
>>
>>14162677
>Old muscle cars are cooler but they aren't reliable.
Except for how they 100% are, this being one of their more well-known features even before resto modding became a thing.

Go learn how pathetically unreliable modern fiat-chrysler shit really is and you'll make a very different choice.
All the power in the world doesn't help when your fucking starter button doesn't work.
>>
>>14162686
It's a button. A key switch is more likely to get fucked up than a button is. I'll probably have to figure out how to change the battery in the fob but how hard can that be.
>>
>>14162686
And how many engines from the 70s go 100k miles with just general maintenance?
>>
>>14162487

>>
>>14162706
Just about all of them.
>>
>>14162721
I think you're wearing rose colored glasses. My dad owned a Pontiac Tempest and a Triumph and he's never made them sound very reliable. He said he had to let the triumph go because fixing it all the damn time was sucking up all his income.
>>
>>14162706
Like... All of them?
350 chevs are legendarily reliable, ford 302/351 are bulletproof and old school mopar gear only has a reputation for exploding because they were so easy to get massive power out of.

The Ford I6 especially did a hell of a lot more than 100k miles

Well i'm not that guy but still. The list of reliable engines pre 1980 is fairly fucking large.

Perkins diesels
Gardner Diesels
Cummins Diesels
Cat Diesels
Detroit 53/71/92 series diesels
Holden red/blue 6 cylinder
A/B series BMC engine
Ford 6 cylinders
Chrysler/Valiant aussie 225/245/265
A n L series Datsun\
K series Toyota

The list goes on of pre 80's engine that are reliable and run for ever. The biggest factor is the owner does he maintain it or does he abuse it and never check the oil.

In short you starting some shit to start some shit and i got nothing better to do then add to this shit storm.

>>14162888

Subaru EJ22 is the same.

What is the most reliable pre 1973 muscle car in your opinion.
>>
>>14162979
a chevelle with a 307 or lopo big block.

Can you even make a carburetted engine run on ethanol? I always thought it just messes up everything, in addition to corroding everything.
>>
>>14163010
of course.
they run carbs with methanol and nitro and it has a much lower afr.

To be fair, you'd be scared too if you were in the heydey of American muscle and were about to take a nosedive into the smog era.
