Currently mid-way through the largest effort/project i have done, removing the 1600 auto from my 77 Mazda Capella and installing a 12a bridgeport/4 speed combo

I'm 23 and I've already owned two classics, hell I picked both of them up for 2k each. The point is as long as you don't set your sights too high you can have a classic. It might not be a GTO but it'll still be awesome, believe me.

By the way both of the classics I picked up I was able to get running perfectly with only a few hundred bucks and barely any mechanical know how.

Just pick up an old mopar C body, or maybe even a lincon luxobarge, those things go really cheap for ones in surprisingly good condition.

Rebuilt carburetor today, it was running lean with the mixture screw wide open. Didn't see anything wrong internally and it was surprisingly clean, but it worked much better afterwards. Also washed it an polished the chrome.

Can't decide on my next classic

Should i sell my Valiant/Ke30? Should i still buy anything i see under 2,000 or should i wait and save up for the next price bracket of $3,000+ cars?

It must have coke bottle styling, some exaggerated feature, either a big 6 cylinder or a v8 that produces a minimum of 160 hp. Round headlights. Manual is a must, will not settle for another automatic.

Then the years, it can't be anything made after 1977 because of Australian emission laws, but anything from before 1972 (year of supercar scare) seems to have a unspoken premium.

I like too many car models to be maker specific but Australian manufactured is preferred.The cars i do like and want are too expensive (XY/XW/XT Falcon, HG/HT Kingswood/Monaro, Chrysler Charger, XA/XC Hardtop) yet some models are cheaper than other models on occasion (i have seen LJ Toranas for as little as 4 grand with a 4speed+186). Some models are under appreciated but still fetch high prices (Chrysler Hardtops, TC/TD Cortina, Centura 245/215 Hemi). Your average joe sedans with base model engines are also creeping up in price (HJ/X/Z Kingswood, XA/XB/XC Wagon/Sedans, CL/CM Wagon/Sedans)

While trucks are cool, especially the stout, at the end of the day its still a 4 cylinder. If i ever needed a truck my first bet would be a f-150 as those come up pretty cheap occasionally. I do lean towards utes however, as the XC Ute seems to tingle my dingle. A nice old kingswood or valiant ute would do just fine also

Well guys here it is. This is what my truck 360fe looks like now.

Currently my first car is a 1976 ford maverick that me and my dad are fixing like some father son type shit. I love it. But its not fun having the car stall in the middle of a busy intersection because the voltage regulator decided to shat itself. Or the fact the CPU decided to shat itself 2 days later. But because of that I had a lot of old people help me, simply because it was their first car, great stories were shared.
Despite the fuel tank having holes

I've got 700r4 but I had a turbo 350 with a shift kit and 3k stall converter before that.

Just spent 90 minutes fucking around with getting a choke cable in the truck. The old one was fucked and I had to take the instrument panel out and move the heater controls and stereo out of the fucking way too.
And to top it off the nut holding the old cable in was rusted on and I just gave up in the end and ground off the front of it with a flap wheel just to get it out

The front end is still dismantled, and I kind of fucked up. I need to replace the subframe, but I probably can't lift up the engine and tranny without hitting the distributor. Which means, that I will need to set the timing once again. And like a retard, I didn't mark TDC when my brother's friend reset it for me.

Super cheap to build. Just cost of dolly and some scrap wood. Works the same as the expensive as dollies. It just doesn't roll that good on rough terrain (which is all of my backyard/working area).

However, the nightmare continues. I pulled off the engine and tranny from the donor nova only to find this. I probably should've looked at it closer. The 4 door nova originally came with a 4 cyl or 6 cyl. Someone did a backyard job to swap a v8 into it.

These engine mounts appear to be welded to the frame. Looks like a hack job. I think it will work since it had a 283 in it, but now I thinking about just going to the local frame shop to see if they can straighten out my frame. I don't really want those ugly mounts on my car. Plus, i'm too compassionate when it comes to destroying stuff.

I need a recomendation on a fuel pump setup. Engine is a 1.25 liter inline 4 which makes 54hp for about 22 mpg ish. Fuel demand therefore is fairly low. Fuel pressure is also supposed to be low, in the 1-2 pound range I believe. I'd like to not break the bank on this one. Suggestions?

It wouldn't work with the engine crane I have since it goes under the subframe. Unless if I lifted the engine to remove pressure, unbolted subframe, and rolled the body back.

However, then that would require body dollies to roll the frame, and a lot of space to roll it back which I probably don't have. I guess it would be do-able, but I'm just not liking the other subframe.

I wouldn't put my life on anything that says "Pittsburgh" on it. I'd just get some big beefy nylon cargo slings around the bottom of the engine that are supported in a very secure fashion (the more the merryer) and go about it that way.

Another thought is you could get the engine out if you were insistent on it, probably by just carefully lifting it while on slings, twist one way, twist the other way, with the hood entirely off and all. I can't imagine the distributor is THAT far out of whack.

Think about it this way.

New cars are about miles per gallon. Classics are about smiles per mile. So you may get 40mpg from your commuter and get 0-2 smiles per mile. My landbarge gets about 6-9 mpg at best, but gets me 17-29 smiles per mile. It's your choice, but the latter is way better and gas is cheap at the moment.

Speaking of 308s, got my over flow tank in, just need to bolt it somewhere. The only issue is that the side where the fitting projects from the radio has the battery, and the hose isn't quite long enough to reach the other side.
I may try and make a bracket for it to sit at the bottom of the radiator.

What are good interior mods that I can do to an interior with all this space without killing the retro vibe?
I'm thinking of installing an aftermaket autoradio but gutting the original radio and replacing the interior so i don't have a LED party that doesn't mess up my vibe. What else can I do?

Interesting choice anon! I had a 1985 Buick Lesabre. 4-door 307 v8. Brown exterior with tan interior. No gauges besides speedo and gas, rest were dummy lights. I guess it just depends on the options it had. The most confortable car in the world that's for damn sure. I had to sell it cause the trans (200r4) crapped out on me. Take it on a good test drive and if you're in california make sure it has passed smog. Good luck

I could, but I keep my car projects on a very tight budget and shipping, title, and taxes will add another $5,000.00 minimum. That included, I'm already spending $9,500.00 out of pocket to get the car. I can raise the funds, but it's easier if I can work within my current means.

Hey guys, MG owner is back. Desiring to know how to start turning over my engine with minimal risk

The engine has not been moved in a few years
The motor oil in it is clean, but I do not know how much sludge is in the pan. I was going to change the oil before I start and see with a finger if there is thick sludge there

I was thinking of a squirt of wd-40 in each cylinder to try and do some penetrating, and a dab of oil for all the valves (which are greasy but not perfect)

Any suggestions on other things I should try? Should I disassemble the oil pump or just make sure after a few turns that it is pumping?
