Doesn't he say it needs a rebuild?

Rebuilding a 13b shouldn't be that hard.
>>
>>14154546
a rebuild doesnt mean you need a new engine

if the rotor housing coating is good you just need new seals
>>
>Oil changes every 3000 miles
>Rotary

He should be changing oil every ten miles.

Make sure there is a machine shop in your area that knows how to actually work on a rotary engine. You can probably find this out on some forums. There is a lot of machine shops that will NOT touch them.

>inb4 do all your machine work yourself with harbor freight purchased crap

This, when someone lists something on craigslist and only says one thing is wrong that is always the case, it's for sure just one small problem. For instance, if someone says "car won't start, needs battery" it just needs a battery, they just don't have the time to go buy a 50 dollar battery, their loss is your gain, that's why you are getting such a great deal. The RX7 just needs a simple fix but the guy rather pass on this great value instead of actually fixing it, it's a definite buy, might buy it myself

Buying a 12k FD with the engine going out is going to be a painful experience. I would know, I bought one and have spent 20k making it right again.
>>
>>14154851
Lol are you me? I have owned my FD for 3 years now and have spend around 13k to get it in turn key shape. The car was miles better than the one OP is looking at too. Be prepared to dish out a shit ton more than just that rebuild. I guarantee you the rebuild is not the only thing you will need to do.
>>
>>14154916
My car needed literally everything. Every single thing possible.

OP is in for a wild ride lol. I'm glad I stuck with it though, I now have a fast and reliable car that is nearly 100% mechanically.
>>
suddenly a 3000GT VR-4 doesn't seem as horrible of an investment as I thought...

What did you have to do to yours? Mine took a rebuild + complete hose(vac/coolant) replace, twin turbo rebuild, had to fix 3 oil leaks, vmount, afr/boost/temp gauge + pillar, AC recharge, battery relocation, powersteering pump replace and much more than isn't coming to mind.
>>
>>14154945

rebuild
BNR stage 3 turbos
pettit unlimited ECU
apexi GT-spec catback
shitty downpipe off rx7club
every single bushing replaced
engine mounts
Koyo radiator
completely new vac lines and all new solenoids
oil leaks on the new engine that needed dealing with
clutch

All of that stuff was required because the stock equivalent shit the bed. I know there is more, I still need a big stock mount IC, transmission rebuild (grinds into 4th), and some coilovers would be nice but not necessary. A bunch of dings and interior plastics that need dealing with, too.
>>
>>14154945
Nice Regas, btw. My dream wheel if I can every justify splurging on a set (but really I'll just end up with RPF1s like everyone else :(

This is pretty much what I had to do too.

I changed the clutch too, vmount came with a koyo nflow (defined auto), bushings were also replaced, i have a downpipe too.

Your trans grinds in 4th? Mine actually grinds in 5th and is kind of hard to engage in 3rd.

Yea this is pretty much my experience with this car. Thank goodness I had money put aside and have a few other cars outside of it just incase.

I appreciate it man! I've always loved regas growing up. RPF1's are a great bang for your buck and you'll be able to get your money back, people always want them.

Yeah oddly the synchros went out in 4th, my 5th gear (the one that commonly goes out on FDs) is just fine! At some point I will get the transmission rebuilt too.

I blew the budget on the rebuild, turbos, etc. so I need to save up a bit before I can tackle all the aesthetic stuff I want to do. I like the 99 spec bumper, did that come on the car when you got it?
>>
>>14154526
Why the fuck would you pay clean car prices for a car with a blown motor?

>transmission is shot too

Its essentially a roller. If you payed more than $7000 you're an idiot. Because you can get a fucking clean FD roller for $7000.
>>
How does this one look? https://jacksonville.craigslist.org/cto/5319200293.html

Since the car starts fine, it's probably just a fuse, right?
>>
>>14154586
>I know what I got
>>
>>14155097
>GTU
>fucked paint
>fucked body panels
>fucked electrical system
>fucked interior
>no AC
>wheels don't come with it

For $2700 you may as well buy a Civic. It'll make the same amount of power, probably would be faster and wouldn't have all that car's issues.

Old RX-7's are the the point that they're not worth it unless you want a project and have cash laying around to rebuild the whole car. If that's the case buy as clean a roller as you can for $1200 and then have fun spending $5000 getting it running and looking decent.

Much better than buying someone else's problem for $2700 and then having to spend $5000 anyway to get it running and looking decent.
>>
>>14155097
Are you looking for a street-focused car? If so, I'd pass. Not only because electrical stuff scares me, but because a full bridgeport is not really very drivable on the street.
>>
>>14155033
That's definitely interesting because yea 5th usually gives out. Thankfully a new transmission isn't too much. You may pay more for a rebuild.

The 99spec bumper was 600 the lip was 300, I don't have the 99spec rebar though which is also kind of expensive. Lights were 200. I really like the look of the 99spec FD. Bumper and tails gave it a great update.

Your car looks great man. You worked on function before form, even though you kind of have to haha, but right on and best of luck on your build! Also if you ever save enough and go single grab an EFR from turblown, it's amazing.

I'm actually really happy with the BNRs, they flow a lot more air than stock (hence the need for the ECU). They are also good up to about 400 whp if I wanted to crank up the boost and do supporting modifications, they are a lot more flexible than the stock turbos in terms of maximum power. I'm at around 280whp right now I think just at 10psi. It definitely feels a lot quicker than it did before. Are you running stock boost?

Eventually I'll do the 99 spec front bumper, some wheels, and all the rest. But until then I'll enjoy having a nice reliable car. If you're in the bay area you should come out to one of the Norcal meets!
>>
>12 grand for an FD that can't be driven right now
>Gear grinds because fuckboy owner
>can get a running FD for that price

Tell the faggot to eat a dick
>>
>>14155355
Sounds good man and i'm running the stock ecu still lol. my boost is creeping a bit but im looking into adaptronics or pfc.
>>
>>14155485
Adaptronic has better features and is the more modern ECU for sure, but there is just so much information out there on tuning with the PFC. Toss up, really. I'd probably get the Adaptronic to be different if I ever need more than a chipped ECU.
>>
>>14155527
I'm looking around on facebook and rx7club for a cheap adaptronics but they're mostly over 1200 for now. PFC ive seen for 450 used. I'm in San Diego btw if you're ever at a meet here it's pretty dry so you may run into my FD.
>>
12k for a 93 with blown engine. no.
>>
>>14154603
This, but OP should be paying a LOT less for an FD with a fucked engine, gearbox and no paint.

If this was $8k, it'd be the perfect candidate for an LS2 + T-56/TR-6060 swap.
>>
>>14154586
>"it just need a battery"
Translation: I took it to a mechanic and it's a $3k bill. my loss is your fucking problem now.
>buying a car from someone who can't afford to repair it
>>
Is an RX8 considerably more reliable or am I still setting myself up for huge maintenance costs by looking to buy one? I want a dorito machine but I'm kind of poorfag

2005 and up, assuming the previous owner knows what a brap is and it has <100k miles you should be aight.
Never, ever touch 2003/4, and if the ad has something like '2 cylinder' or 'oil changes every 10,000 lol' you fucking run

Look for
>2005/6 RX8
>Always redlined at least once a drive
>oil changed every 3000 miles
or
>premixed with [x]% of [x]
