What is the point of fast trucks?

Off-road oriented ones like the Raptor make sense, but not the Lightning or the SRT-10.

Supercharged and only makes 380HP. Pretty bad these days. It's a cool truck that'll hold value though. Swap it with a supercharged Coyote

Like the GMC Syclone which was basically a truck on cocaine. If it were just a car with a truck-bed (El-Camino) then that probably wouldn't be as interesting. (engineering-wise)

My point was that they are disadvantaged and most would expect them not to have any performance at all over a car platform. (which a UTE rides on)

Are you forgetting this started life as a 260hp 2V 5.4L? A nearly 50% power increase isn't bad any year, let alone 12-16 years ago. The 450lb-ft of torque is nice too.

US CAFE standards don't allow anything Ute sized without retarded mpg requirements. By 2020 An F-150 or Silverado sized truck has a target of 30mpg. A small truck (something Ranger/S-10/Ute sized) has a target of 50mpg. CAFE uses some stupid formula involving wheelbase, and is actually incentivizing ever larger trucks and SUVs.

I love the 1st gen lightning. 2nd gen.. not so much. I always thought it was a cheap, tacky looking factory-mexitruck.

They're quick but not as quick as you'd think considering all the sub-5 second 0-60 claims and what not. I got pulled by a cammed 2nd gen in my stock foxbody.. just barely. Maybe dude couldn't drive...

This, the first gens with the 351w were just sexy as hell, though i like the 2nd gens, not for the body but for the enigne, due to the fact its on an 97-03 f150 frame, i could take the supercharged 5.4L out of one and put it into my 97 f150 without having to build the engine up to take the boost

The SRT-10 is super fun to drive though. The Lightning was a failed attempt at being a ute, but the SRT just seems like some Americans got bored.
