So, the contract on my current car is coming up in a few months (inb4 >finance ) and I've got the ability to buy outright now.

I've got a budget of about £10k - I'd like something that's entertaining to drive - I'm not massively concerned about practicality as my commute is only 7 miles each way and I don't often have more than one passenger.

What should I be looking at? I'm a britbong and the choice in my area is quite small so I'll probably have to travel for a good deal.
>>
Get a used Morgan or Defender. It's what I'd do if I lived in the UK.
>>
>>14133208

Nice idea - I love the Morgan look but they're pricey as hell and don't look easy or affordable to maintain.
>>
Get a VW GTI. You will want something with a turbo since you will be short tripping it in the winter and a turbo will steam away that crankcase condensation.
>>
>>14133212
They shouldn't be too hard to maintain, they always used stock motors from other automakers like Honda and they are models of simplicity, they're still made with wood fgs. The body work is Aluminum so you won't have to worry about rust or anything.

How much do used Morgans go for over there?
>>
>>14133205
Monaro
>>
>>14133233
I don't think they can have them, can they?
>>
>>14133235
Monaros are pretty damn cheap in the UK.
He can defiitely find a 6.0 one between £8 and £11k

A used VXR8/Commodore can be had around £13k
>>
>>14133220

Having a quick look - I think you're right. But the cheapest is just over £15k.

>>14133214
I'm thinking about a scirocco GT, but finding a decent one in my price range is quite hard. I think the golf GTI is boring as hell so I'm avoiding that.

>>14133233
>>14133235

You can get the Monaro VXR V8 over here, and there are some 04 - 06 plates with about 60k on the clock in the price range. I doubt I'd be able to get insurance on it though. UK insurance for anyone under 25 is fucking expensive.
>>
Considered a 2005-2008 BMW Z4, the coupe comes in either a 3.0 NA or 3.2 turbo (the latter is over your budget). Very fun and surprisingly reliable.
>>
>>14133339

I tried one out recently (3.0 NA) - I think it was a 2009 with about 70k on the clock.

It was okay to drive, but I didn't really enjoy it all that much.

E30 325i

Once you drive one, you'll never go back

You can get a beast for your budget

Also, Bimmer drivers are best drivers.
>>
>>14133495
Will one trade theirs for my E36?
>>
>>14133505

That's not mine, just stock google image.

Buy a 316i and put your e36 engine in it. Doable, and funny to rape chavs in their clios
>>
A lexus
>>
>>14133495

That actually seems like a good idea - looks like I'll have to travel at least 60-70 miles for one in my price range though.
>>
>>14133617

If you want a fun car and don't care about emisions/mpg, E30 all the way!

Also, get on facebook and join one of the many groups for parts/advice/meets. Lots of enthusiasm for these little bastards!
>>
Corrado VR6
MR2 (Any year)
With a little more than £10k you could pick up a R32 or R33 GTR
Lots of neat kits you could grab as well if you're open to that.
RX7 (FC or FD) are well within your price range

Lots of import options as well
>>
>>14133777

Have to admit I'm a bit clueless when it comes to BMW. I can see plenty of 325i models on Autotrader - how do I tell if it's an E30?

E30 = 1982 - 1990
Read this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series
>>
>>14134013
They were still selling new e30's in 92 dipshit, and the e36 318ti is literally an e30 in e36 skin.

Now that i actually read the wiki page they were selling them through 1993, Dipshit.

And a literal e36 318ti is literally an e36 and not literally an E30 you literal dip
>>
>>14134013

Ah okay, that's start to make sense. I think I'd be going for something more in the 2006 - 2008 area though.

When did this happen? When I started driving these things were worth £500.

So E30's were still being sold through 93 then, which is what i said...

>it is 100% an e30
But its called an e36, it looks like an e36, most have a different e36 engine and acording to all sources it is "From the front bumper to the A pillar, the 3 Series Compact is identical to the BMW 3 Series (E36) saloon."

Ya dip

ah e46 the sure sign of a limp dicked cocksucker whose mommy and daddy bought him his car, you don't know shit and you probably never turned a wrench in your life because your parents didn't trust you to work on cars because of what a faggot you are, I own three BMW's right now, you don't own shit. Have a pic of my old cars, casual.
>>
>>14134345
You mean -
"Ah e46, a nice, cheap and reliable daily thats fun to drive. Oh and a wagon, to support your busy outdoorsy lifestyle while carrying your m8s in style."
You bmw's look very nice, the faded paint and lack of any modification or care really shows what an amazing wrench turning owner you are.

Meanwhile ill be over here turning spanners fitting new suspension and a bigger turbo to my subaru and then taking it and my trailer to pick up an e36 to turn into a drift car.
But nah have fun with your old slow as fuck rot boxed.

it's almost like I can feel you being whipped into a jealous rage, I tell you what, you can go back to pretending to know something about cars now that you've been thoroughly put in your place, good day :)
>>
>>14134264

I tried a 2010 318 a couple of weeks ago and really didn't get on with it at all - felt kinda sluggish. Though this place was one of those used car supermarkets so it was probably fucked.

I want something that hasn't done too many miles so this is why I'm thinking 2007 onward.

Yea i agree with the 318 being sluggish, its why i got rid of mine, the 325,328 and 330 are much better though.
Ive looked at the E90 (which would the 2007 model your thinking of) and really didn't like. It felt much heavier and i'm personally not a fan of the looks or interior.
I'd recommend looking at a late E46 rather than an earlier E90 (you can still find E46's with under 60,000 miles if you look which is nothing for that car)

Or look at a based E39
>>
>>14134434

I'll have to see if anyone around sells them - I live in the south west of england and the choice here is shit. My best bet is to try something down here (even if it's too expensive) then find a deal somewhere else.
