Hey /o/, I'm strongly considering an SN95 Mustang instead of an LS1.

How fast is a convertible with PI heads?
>Should I just build a 5.0?
>Is the time and money even worth it to complete the swap?
>Would a V6 SN95 be a better option and then do a modular swap of my choice? (4.6, 5.4... 2v, 3v, or 4v junkyard motor)
>Would an LT1 with T-Tops or Convertible be far superior and hassle free other than Optispark and Reverse cooling?

Should I just wait for an LS1 with a T56 for gas Milage and the T-Tops and save the money and hassle?

I never really cared for the GTs since SHOs were faster from the from the factory, but these SN95s are cheap as shit and fully loaded, and they are RWD and V8.

Get a 94-96 and work on the 5.0. Also don't get a converible.
>>
Buy a coupe, manual GT (or snek). Any other configuration for an SN95 is full retard
>>
>>14123495

New-Edge Convertibles weren't so bad, but the back seats were worthless.

Are the early ones so much worse? And why do I keep seeing cars with sunroofs?

what are you saying here

I take that back, this goes for the S197/S550 too.
>>
>>14123502

Do people ever V8 swap the V6s? Those things are cheaper than Cavaliers now.

OP ive have both the 1997 GT and the 2001 GT.

Get the New Edge SN95. You wont regret it,
>>
>>14123505
The 5.0 is an easier motor to make power out of, that's why I'm suggesting it.
>>
>>14123522
I dont know the 5.0 from 1994 was making 215hp or so and the 1999 4.6 was making 265hp

youre already starting way behind with a 5.0, yes they can make power but your looking at new heads and something that you cant use a tuner on.
>>
Avoid the convertible, soggy noodle chassis. GT is cheap enough to get a v8 and avoid engine swapping. You're pretty much stuck with the 4.6 SOHC. DOHC and 5.4 liter engines are considerably larger. The 4.6 will make more power than the 5.0 but it will cost more.
>>
>>14123551

A 5.0 is still cheap as hell to make power out of. IDK about a PI Swap pricewise, but the 5.0 doesn't hit that ceiling near as early.
>>
>>14123551
do whatever your little heart desires homie

people are telling go 5.0 and you're all
>hurrdurr can't use a tuner

you should get a 1996 V6 and go on about your life little one
>>
>>14123488
omg so funny maymay!! XDD
>>
>>14123565
The 4.6 SOHC bottom end can stand 400 whp

Wouldn't you need FI top get that far? How much would you have to spend to get 300+ wheel horsepower for either NA?
>>
>>14123594
H/C/I which already isn't worth it on a 2v

Deep down you'll prefer the Turbo Taurus, OP.
>>
>>14123594
you cant get the 4.6L to about 320hp N/A and not break the bank, and thats plenty enough for that car, its 3300lbs

the stock 4.6 with 265hp can run 14.0 and faster all stock under perfect driving conditions. So low 13s is doable very easily.

Why not build the lighter bodied 96-98?

How far can the 94-95s go power and torque wise? Aren't they cheaper to build too?
>>
>>14123674

Queen of the Trailer Park.
(or trashy princess and budweiser heiress)

But these F-bodies will make 400 whp and still get 28 mpg with a 4.10 rear end.
>>
>>14123551
Thr 5 0 flows terribly stock but exhaust work and heads/intake manifold off of an explorer motor with a little porting can make roughly 300 crank according to t.0 experts.

Alright OP, here we go

>SOHC Mod route
Get an early one, swap PI heads on, full exhaust, rear gears. That is as far as you can go (without spending a ton of money) without F/I, and if you do decide to go F/I you're limited to 400hp because everything inside of the engine will turn to mush

>94-95 5.0
It's the better bolt-on engine, needs an aftermarket cam but it's tough to tune because they changed the computer when they switched from the Fox cars, also limited to around 400hp because these didnt have forged pistons like the 86-92 5.0 HO cars

>V6
Best thing to do with one of these is rip the 3.8 out, buy a Mark VIII LSC with blown suspension and swap the 4v in using factory Cobra parts

>LT1 F-Bodys
10 bolt rear end is JUNK, you cant put any decent rubber on until you either
-Build the 10 bolt
-Swap it out for a 12 bolt, Ford 8.8 or Ford 9"
LT1 is a good engine, all it really takes to make it better is a full exhaust system, aftermarket optispark and a cam. Keep in mind that the Fbodys weigh more than Mustangs, so while it will have more power it will always linger around barebones bolt-on Foxbody territory because of the weight disadvantage

tldr: Do whatever you want, who cares
>>
>>14123677
I read that the 96-98 GT motors with the PI swap will have higher compression than the New edge 4.6.
>>
>>14124284

10.5:1 and higher octane needed.
>>
>>14123677
they weigh the same.
>>
>>14124418

Damn. Might as well buy an LS1 with a cam. I'll make the SHO Taurus my Ford car again.
>>
>>14124234

Problem with the 3rd or 4th gen Camaro is that they have a torque arm so if you want a bolt in rear end you need to go with an expensive Moser version of the GM 12 bolt or Ford 9" so you can mount the torque arm. Those rear ends run $2.5-4k depending on options and often can't be had used for under $1.5k. Weld on torque arm kits can be tricky because most cheap OEM rear ends have cast centers that can't be reliably welded on. The budget Ford 8.8" into them is common, but it's really a drag only 4 link conversion that doesn't require lots of cutting but does require fabrication skills.
>>
>>14124792
Good call
>>
>>14123485
all you have to do is get 4.6 liter Twisted Wedge heads. they flow 265 cfm out of the box, can be ported to blow as much as a DOHC head, or more.

couple that with good cams, and an aftermarket intake, with longtubes, and BOOM 400HP plus.

the twisted wedge heads flipped the Intake valve from one side to the other. it opened the engine up a large amount.
>>
>>14127280

Price and REASONABILITY are the deciding factor here Anon, or else I'd be building a 13b Twingo or VQ35 swapping an SW20 instead.

>$3,600 heads
Fuck no. I'll buy an F-Body for cheaper than that price and still be faster.
