Which one /o/?

T-Minus 3 Months until I buy one or the other
>>
>>14118211
Whichever one you like more

Oh wait, you probably haven't driven either car have you?
>>
>>14118218
Drove the GTI, not the ST

Let's just say my expectations are high for the ST based on the GTI
>>
Volkswagen is rated somewhat better for reliability, so I'd go with them. Interior quality is generally nicer too.
>>
not the vw
>>
I ended up getting the ST. I thought it was more fun to drive. Interior is kinda meh, but I like the seats. Being $10k cheaper helped a lot too.
>>
>>14118250
>Being $10k cheaper helped a lot too.
Wat? You can get a new ST for $16,000?
>>
ST
GTi is expensive to maintain and I've seen some water pump problems already with low km
>ST looks better
>easy to up power
>nazis
>cheaper parts generally

Look at the fiesta as well its pretty underrated
>>
>>14118281
My GTI has cost me nothing but the payments. The water pump did crack at 6000mi, but it's covered by warranty. And VW knows they have a problem, so it will probably be covered into perpetuity now.
>>
>>14118281
Fiesta is way too small, I own a small business so I need a bigger car than that.

Every car has issues, good thing theres dat 60k mile warranty
>>
>>14118254
Well more like $8k cheaper. I got mine new for $18.2k. If I recall the cheapest new GTI I found was about $26k.
>>
>>14118300
what other bugs are going to come up down the line? I feel they rushed into production just to get the hot hatch market. I would lease but not buy at this point in time.
>>
>>14118211
Mitsubishi Mirage
>>
>>14118318
>rushed production

The mk7 was out like a year prior to coming to america
>>
>>14118307
It probably wasn't a performance pack car either:

If you:

Need a DSG/Auto
Want the absolute fastest FWD car and are willing to pay extra
Want the nicest possible interior

Get the GTI

Otherwise the Fords are cheaper, more fun despite being slightly slower than a performance pack GTI and definitely faster than a regular GTI, and a bit more reliable IMO. The 2.0Ts now have Turbo Issues on the MK7s.
>>
>>14118300
>cracked water pump by 6000 miles
>even slightly acceptable

You can't seriously be recommending this car to someone...
>>
>>14118331
It has nothing to do with being rushed. The Mk6s have the same water pumps. It's a rubber seal inside the plastic casing. It swells and cracks the water pump inlet/outlet. Never heard of a catastrophic failure though. It normally just leaks. I suppose it could get worse though if you totally ignored it for months on end.
>>
>>14118340
Sure I can. Every cars breaks down. They don't make any that don't.
>>
>>14118327
>Mirage
Might as well tell him to walk everywhere.
>>
>>14118211

I've driven both, not extensively just about an hour in each.

I'd take the Ford. Steering in the GTI is too light and the seats are shit.
>>
>>14118368
The seats were fantastic imo opinion as was the steering. Did you take the car above 30 mph? The steering changes according to speed

The manual shifter was also fucking amazing, loved the short shift and clicky feel
>>
>>14118380

Yeah I got it up to 130km/h or so, it was a solo test drive. I thought it felt overboosted as fuck. Not as bad as a Lexus but I prefer heavy as fuck BMW hydraulic steering so maybe it's just me.

I thought the bolsters were too narrow. I'm a fit manlet, 5'8 175lbs and my lats didn't fit beween them.
>>
>>14118332
>fastest fwd
top keko's m8
>>
>>14118389
Wow you are exactly my weight and height too, that's crazy how different our experiences were.

I'm decently fit too so I doubt its that, maybe gotta break those seats in
>>
>>14118211
I'm a bit of an ST fanboy, but if I could afford it I'd get the GTI. No one buys a hot hatch when you can afford both a daily and a project, and the GTI is just easier to live with day to day.
>>
>>14118389
But the bolsters on the ST are even more narrow than the GTI. Same with the RS.
>>
>>14118401

Huh, that is strange. I didn't fuck around with the seat bottom angle or anything like that, maybe it could have just been dialed in better.

I did really like the 6MT though, that transmission was buttery smooth.

>>14118410

Really? The ST I test drove had the recaros and it felt like I was wearing the car.
>>
Are these just a lost cause performance wise?

Sat in one and the interior is beautiful

Is there anything to do to make it better? That 20k price tag is tempting
>>
>>14118432

Jesus christ that thing is ugly as fuck

Don't do it anon.
>>
>>14118432
They are faster than any car you will find on the street that has one or more flat tires.
>>
>>14118437
I think if they changed the lights and widened the top grill itd be a bit better

I like the back and the rest of the body. The face is just a little weird.
>>
>not waiting for the RS to either buy or dramatically drop the ST prices

leg shigerydidity do
>>
>>14118432
wait for the Ford incentives man, you can get a base model ST for close to 20k.

There are just so many better options if your enthusiast minded
>>
>>14118447
The RS is 40,0000 dollars (and will be more because markup), the GTI and ST are 25k new and there are tons of used ones around or under 20k.
>>
>>14118458
doesn't matter there's still gonna be people dropping their STs for RSs left and right
>>
>>14118458
yeah the first year RS's will be crazy overpriced much like the mustang, hellcats, and camaros were.

but the ST should see a price drop, might only be like 5-10% but still enough to wait for
>>
>>14118496
Well tell them good luck finding one the first year it's out unless you preordered it 3 months ago
>>
>>14118211
Get a superior car.
Get a type R.
>>
>>14118589
Not coming out until 2018 and you'll be paying $35-40k for a car that's still FWD when the same money buys you a more fun Focus RS/Golf R/Mustang GT/Camaro SS.

>in b4 but its faster because fastestlaps.com said so

Unless you're building a track car its irrelevant because you'll never realistically run any of the cars you benchrace within 5 seconds of their posted time, nor your daily commute is on a race track.
>>
I drove both and liked the gti better. Way more refined. The torque steer in the ST is outrageous and honestly feels slow for a 250 hp car. The gti is weaker but I felt that it used its power better and handling felt much sharper. ST interior is good too but the gti easily outshines it. I don't understand ST hype tbqhfamily
>>
>>14118626
is the Type-R really FWD? that seems retarded for that price tag
>>
>>14118642
Yes

Price estimates are going off what they go for in UK/DE

Keep in mind a new Ford Mustang 5.0 in DE/UK goes for 42k Euro (DE)/33k GBP (UK) and comes fully loaded including the Performance Pack factory, while a new base 2017 Civic Type R goes for 34k Euro (DE)/30k GBP (UK).

The CTR is made in England, assuming we get the same model (fucking doubt it because Honda of Japan loves cucking Honda of America its like they fucking do it in revenge for WW2 never mind that the American Market is the only reason Honda is relevant to anyone under 30 years old) it'd likely be AT LEAST $35k.
>>
>>14118642
its not retarded if they can make it sell
>>
get the GTI with an APR stage 1 tune
>>
>>14118300
ya, when I took mine in for my 30k they swapped my water pump even though it had no issues
>>
>>14118702
>stage
>>
>>14118702
Mah nigga, that is a HUGE factor that is swaying me toward the GTI, I just worry about dat clutch life
>>
>>14118626
>all of this speculation
We all know damn well that honda usa wouldn't sell it for over $30k

The focus RS starts at $45k, is heavier, and isn't going to be putting down anywhere near it's bhp on paper, because lolawd

The golf R starts at $35k and weighs in at over 3300 lbs.

Sure, you could get a mustang gt or a base camaro for a little over $30k,
In the gt's case you get about ~120 BHP more, but you also get 700lbs added, a much longer wheelbase, and a fisher price interior.

With the camaro you'd get about ~20 bhp more, at the expense of 300 lbs, a longer wheelbase, and being unable to see out of those submarine windows.

Plus I'm not quite sure why someone in the market for a DD hatchback would buy a weekend 2 door landbarge, but I guess this is the home of the bench racing games.

>inb4 all the faggots trying to defend their boats
>>
>>14118711
>bait
>>
>>14118756
The RS starts at $35k.
>>
>>14118236
>Volkswagen is rated somewhat better for reliability,
What crazy world do you live in? One where people take seriously dependability ratings that weight old people confused by nav systems evenly with water pumps shitting themselves in 5k miles?
>>
>>14118756
>isn't going to be putting down anywhere near it's bhp on paper, because lolawd
99% of turbo cars are underrated, don't think this will be different
>>
>>14118777
>ladies and gentlemen start your engines for the bench racing games!

FF layout loses less whp than FR, and 4WD loses the most with the addition of extra weight due to the extra drivetrain components.

Factory claimed BHP does not equal WHP

I JUST WANTED A THREAD YELLING ABOUT THE ST AND GTI FUUUUUUUUUUUUU

>>
>>14118756
Focus RS starts at 36k you idiot
>>
>>14118844
I really wish I could afford a 40k (taxes n shiet) car, but I'll be happy with a lightly used ST or GTI
>>
>>14118844
sick m8

post pics and do skids when you get it
>>
>>14118861
You'll definitely be happy with either, my ST with mountune mr300 was a blast. Dad had a GTI with APR stage 1 which was great too.

I found my 13' ST3 with 12k miles for 20k, hell you could probably find one for less cause resale blows lol
>>
>>14118888
god damn I wish my family was into cars like I am :(
>>
>>14118211
Is that a four door gti? I sit in one before. The backseats are horrible.
>>
>>14118726
Yeah man I met a guy that had to replace his clutch. I have a mk6 DSG which isn't as fun as manny but its good for a daily and mods. its a fun car
>>
>>14119154
who gives a shit about the backseat, I'm buying the car for me not my passengers

>>14118437
At least it's not the worst that toyota has to offer.
>>
>>14119727
I only ever liked black on the pre-2015 models, hides the bubbliness of the car well.
>>
>>14119737
my god do people still buy into that volkswagen stereotype?

They're no less reliable than any modern car if you don't follow their retarded 10,000 mile service intervals.

Big deal a repair costs 20% more than a toyota or a civic its a performance car anyway
>>
>>14119779
A new one would be fine, if they sold anything I liked in the US. But I wouldn't touch one that's over 3y/o or 50k miles with a 30 foot pole.
>>
>>14118304
Why are you buying a performance hatchback for your business.

Because the answer is FiST.
>>
>>14118211
Ford if you want a sport based fwd turbo shit box and gti if you want comfort based fwd shit box. Imo id never get the gti
>>
>>14120000
Because I want it, that's why. It's practical enough to put stuff in and fun enough to chuck around when I want it to be without being uncomfortable.
>>
>>14119789
I dont know what kind of crap they sell to you americucks but in europe the mk 1 through 3 are the epitome of reliability. There's a saying that goes something along the lines - "the first thing to go dead on a mk2 tdi is the driver".
>>
File: image.jpg (2MB, 3264x2448px) Image search: [Google]

I cross-shopped both of these and ended up getting a WRX, for what it's worth, OP.
>>
>>14118358
You've never driven a Toyota, have you?
>>
>>14122031
Wrx's are way overpriced where I live, plus I hate sedans and the wrx is ugly as all hell
>>
I owned an ST, and a fully bolted one on with a stock turbo would get raped by a gti with just a tune (in a straight line).
