I need a v8 or bigger. Fucking now. God damn i just want to drink fucking petrol CUNTS.

Now here's my dilemma. I like the HSV engines, but those pieces of trash can't turn for shit.
I like american muscle, but i live in australia and getting one is just fucking impossible for the price they want.

So it's going to be cheaper for me to literally engine swap in a v8 to almost anything else. What's the best v8?

I would also love AWD and considering it costs like 300k for a mustang here, i'm ready to drop big money on an entire drivetrain/engine swap.

Yes, i know it's fucking outrageous, but i need some ideas on what kind of car to put it in.

I want something not too heavy but also not too light, aerodynamic, low and cool looking.

Please help m8's!

>Also, v8 thread for all v8 discussion

>>
>>14115653
How much boost is safe depends on the engine. There isn't much point to boosting a V8 by a lot though, the whole point of having a V8 is that it produces a lot of power on it's own. You can slap some over dialed turbos on an LS V8 if you want, it will probably make it a bit faster but shit will break more often and you'll be making decent power without them anyways.

I said i'm a fucking noob as far as this shit goes, i don't claim to know the inner workings of engines mate.

I'm just asking about how v8's work, considering i'm used to turbo 6's.

In turbo 6's you can't go above a specific amount of psi before it shits itself or you need to get forged internals.

I'm wondering at what point that happens in a v8 and also about the supercharger/turbo debate.

I thought superchargers were better for constant power which would be good for a v8, am i wrong?

Also, what's the order in picking my shit. Is it Engine>car or the other way around?

I hear v8's deliver more torque, how does that change things?
>>
>>14115679
So i should be going for a v8 that's delivering crazy power off the bat?
>>
>>14115809
>I'm wondering at what point that happens in a v8 and also about the supercharger/turbo debate
depends on the V8 engine in question.
GM LS V8 engines can take as much psi as you can shove in.

I'm having a bit of a look at the wiki on LS engines, found this one (LSX454R)

It says it was never put in a vehicle, would i be able to buy one crated and slap twin turbos on this? Would easily give me more than enough power. If not this one, perhaps something around the 500hp mark NA and then with room to go up a few hundred more with turbo?

Also that other guy above me talking about a r34 GTR v8 swap, i like that idea, would it be possible? Is there enough room and is it possible to merge engine with the gtr's transmission?

yes http://www.speedhunters.com/2011/07/car_spotlight_gt_gt_not_your_average_skyline/

yes it is possible to do it and keep AWD. It would be hideously expensive given all the custom work you would have to do and in the end you would have 500bhp and 500ft/lb while spending enough to build the RB to make 800+ which seems a bit dumb.

I'm assuming that i could fit a v8 in nearly anything, it's just going to require custom mounts and shit.

I wanna pick my engine first, but i'll be honest and i don't know the difference between a 6.2 litre american engine and a 4 litre german engine.

What's each one better at?

I have a r33 GTR and when i eventually do destroy my RB26, i was thinking about going the v8 route.

I heard from a mate that the v8 actually makes it handle better due to it's placement and fits in nicely with just a little bit of custom work needed.

I can't deny the great sound a v8 makes, but unlike OP i don't want to literally drink fuel on the thing (but i'm ok with a bit more than what i'm currently using) so are there any good 4 litre v8's which are strong as fuck and able to go up to about 6-800hp streetable without forged internals?

Anyone know about how viable this would be?

Also OP, i know what you mean about wanting to be able to turn. I enjoy my GTR, it's like it's on rails. The other night i took a downhill slanted turn signed at 45 with oil on the road at 130, did a powerslide and recovered. I would have been fucked in any other car.

You should look into getting yourself a GTR, but remember that whatever you pay is always going to be double in maintenance.

Unless you're putting a VH41 in it, just sell it and get a GTSt or GTS to ruin
>>
>>14116002
Nah, i like the AWD.

Literally saved my life a few times now.

And i mean, i don't thrash the car to shit or run absurd boost, but i figure eventually everything has to die, so it would be nice to have a plan for when that does happen.

I dunno, something about this car captured my heart. Anyone else feel that way about their car?

They bought a GM 4.8L Vortec LS V8 from a pick up truck thinking it was a 5.3L (the 5.3 and 4.8 are identical externally so the mistake is an easy one to make. They use the exact same block, heads, and accessories.). To test how much power it could make on stock internals, they threw 2 turbos on it, ran it on race gas to see when the stock internals finally gave up. There were multiple 1200 HP runs without any sign of the engine breaking before they ran out of dyno time. Those 4.8's make 300 HP from the factory to put it in perspective
>>
>>14115651
>are better
Both compress air to allow stoichio/more fuel flow. It's not a matter of v8s being better wtih super chargers. It's a matter of engine design and output where superchargers vs turbochargers come into play.

>>14115653

There are or at least were stock style LS1 blocks running 1,000-1,800 hp in drag race vehicles with twin turbos and nitrous. The limit for the LS1 block is often how much boost and nitrous you can feed it before the cylinder heads start to lift off. If you put a built rotating assembly in, the block will take a ton of power. The LS1 engines on the top end of that 1,500-1,800 hp range were stock style blocks with a bit of extra girdle reinforcement on the bottom end and billet deck spacers the cylinder head and the engine deck. Not too many teams are sinking money into the LS1 since there are plenty of better large bore LSx blocks now, including aftermarket options and the extra strong cast iron LSX block for all out race engines up to 30-40 psi and over 3k hp thanks to extra cylinder head bolts.
