So I'm looking to buy a new car in February. I want something that's fun to drive, easy to drive around town and something that doesn't make me want to kill myself when I have to drive more than 2 hours at 150+ kph.
I've narrowed it down to these cars:
Ford Fiesta (1.0 Ecoboost w/ 100-140 hp or the ST)
Mini Cooper
Renault Clio (120 hp or the 90 hp diesel, hatch or wagon)
They all cost between 14 and 17k and have done between 12 and 23k km.
Which one would you choose, and why?
What are the alternatives?
I think the Mini or the Clio might be better for longer journeys than the Fiesta, especially the ST and the Sport, but the Fiesta is great fun in town and will probably be more reliable than the Mini and the Clio.
Thank you for your advice!
Also: Post small cars!

Hilarious.
Modern design but with microscopic wheels.

WTF that's Mitsubishi Mirage G4/Attrage

I would choose the Clio estate. Long warranty, decent boot and best looking of the options. The 120hp gasoline would come with a double clutch gearbox, so it would require frequent oil changes to play it safe. If you drive annually more than 30k kms you should pick the diesel.

yeah the Clio is a very good car and the estate will be big enough for pretty much anything I'll ever need it for. But that Ecoboost engine in the Fiesta is pure sex

Ford Fiesta, french cars melt in the sun
>>14115512
I got a french car and it doesn't melt in the sun. Also I live in northern Germany, not much sun going on here either.
>>14115511
I would, sadly they are at least 40k here.

Don't believe in /o/ meme. The new generation of French car are very good. Reliable, comfortable, nice to drive and well finish.
The the Clio IV is a good choice. Mini are very expensive to maintain and ensure compared to the Ford or the Renault and they are not reliable.
For the alternative, there are the Peugeot 208 who is as good as can be the Clio. I don't recommend you the Citroen C3 or the DS 3 because they are old.

Das fucked up. Maan.
I drive second Polo and it is fun fast cornering on narrow asphalt road in the forest. The car never feels safely on the ground so I hunt for a random tree. :^)
>>14112516
The fiesta st might be very good but the 1.0 ecoboost is nothing like it, it's awful.
I'd love to recommend a French car but really, the smart thing to do is get the Mazda 2 or Suzuki Swift.
Or the Renaulsport Twingo 133 if you're feeling brave.
>>14115584
I know that french cars are reliable because I've owned 2 so far. But everytime the French get their hands on computers and electrics it is bound to go wrong. And I absolutely hate the 208. I've driven it many times at work and I don't understand what Peugeot was thinking.

The Ecoboost is a very good engine. It's not like any other 3 cyl engine. Of course it's more noisy than a 4 cyl but I don't think awful is the right word for it. The Mazda is a good alternative, I'll take a look at it. But I had an 07 Swift before and it wasn't that good. The transmission went to shit at 120k km and they wanted 3k to fix it and said the new transmission might only last 120k too. Also the car was slow for a 92hp city car and fuel economy was the same as a 170hp BMW 1 series.

aren't dCi known for engine failure sooner than usual ?
Like on the recent Scenic for example
>>14117385
I honestly don't know. But if you'd believe anything people write in forums you should not buy a Twingo under any circumstances because it will go wrong once a week. However, I've owned 2 Twingos so far and they never ever went wrong except for a broken heater in november on the first one. But that car was almost 20 years old and had done almost 200k km.

From what i've heard, gas engines on renault cars are fine, the reliability problem only come with diesels.
Old twingos are perfect since they got an engine from an even older renault car.
I don't know if they fixed this issue yet.
