It's only more consistent if you have a professionally built torque converter and gearbox. And those don't work well on the street - unlike Lightning Rods. It's kind of the 60's equivalent of Tiptronic.

A regular automatic shifter is pretty bad at doing what the Rods do. It'll go into neutral when you don't want to, you can easily shift from first to third, stuff like that. The Rods make sure you shift from first to second to third, without skipping a single gear, and without the messiness of a manual gearbox. A regular autobox floor shifter won't do that. The only function a Lenco does over the Rods, is hold more power-but that's not up to the shifter, that's due to the transmission underneath. If you build, say, the Turbo 400 underneath the Rods, it'll hold plenty of power, and it'll function just as well as a Lenco.

A hydropneumatically shifted sequential manual (see: F1) shift faster than both, at about 0 to 1 milliseconds. Instant shift.
A DCT shifts at about 8 milliseconds in optimal conditions, which is faster than the Lenco. However, the Lenco is extremely consistent. A DCT takes about 100 milliseconds in non-optimal conditions to shift (when the computer isn't expecting it), and I doubt the Lenco will take that long. Also, I doubt a DCT can take the kind of power a good Lenco can.

My bad. Anyways, in terms of speed:

Electrohydraulic sequential > DCT > sequential dogbox > H pattern dogbox (like Jerico)

Also, DCT's are quite unsuited to extended race conditions. It took Porsche ages to get them right - only to be superseded by a 'regular' electrohydraulic sequential.
