Okay /o/ I've decided that I want to go to university of northwestern Ohio to and get the high performance automotive degree. Good? Bad? What should i do to prepare? What scholarships do apply for? I would greatly appreciate some advice, counselors don't give a shit. Oh, and happy holidays to yall.
>>
Have a friend who goes there and from the little I've heard there isn't much to prepare for behorehand (although if you're not from Ohio you need to prepare your car for Ohio winters lol)

not sure about scholarships

you won't get a job
just spend money on a useless degree.

i just fucking said my college was full of those retards.
they realized there was NO jobs to be had with that degree
same assholes preached about E3 spark plugs.
>>
>>14102729
Thankyou!. Checking it out now.

LOL
No
>>

Free college in USA?
Where?
cuz sign me up nigga.
>>
>>14102736
I've searched online and there seem to be some jobs available. Not a shitload, but not a few either. I understand what you're saying though. I could always open up my own shop anyways. That's the endgame actually. What would you recommend other than this degree then?
>>14102746
That'd be a wise choice as I've never been through a real winter.
>>
>>14102744
I'd also like to know how to not pay.

in short, i wouldnt do it
the money just isnt there and you stay at the bottom for too long
i wanted to do performance too but you have to think about the future. i ended up doing diesel and while in college i took a couple performance classes and learned what i needed

too many runs on the touge and previous owner(s) had oil starved it at one point and blew a rod bearing and fucked up the clearances on the crankshaft. also think the broken motor mounts and hard runs had something to do to it.

when i got her as a gift i noticed the tick but just blew it off to age and always drove fine and sounded ok at speed till i was on the freeway on my way to my hooning road and the rod bearing said "lol fuk you not today" and shredded on me and i limped it home a mile or two like that because fuck late night tow truck service

and it came panda schemed when i got it (coincidence i think not lol)
>>
>>14103263
Why not just go TT now that it's out.
>>
>>14103323
its not out yet

i dropped the front suspension, rested the back half of the motor and transmission on a tree stump, put new better motor mounts , and pulled the oil pan off to change the rod bearings but my ass didnt check the clearance. and still rattled on start up

i want to just fix and keep it like that for an ls swap later on down the road.
>>
>>14102965
you are the kind if people that normies want to find and the service technicians hope to become
>>
>>14102762
Ohio is very bad for winters (especially northern Ohio, where there's EVEN MORE snow) because we get an absolute fuckton of snow because of the lake right above us and we use road salt (which is a real killer) here HEAVILY
>>
>>14103357
Everyone is doing LS swaps right now it seems like. Drives me crazy when people tell me to just LS swapnit already
>>
>>14103378

I've been wondering about getting into the auto mechanic industry as well I think. I've taken a liking to it these past few months and it's pretty cool.

Is it really that easy though? You can get a low level job at a dealership and do basic things and kind of learn as you go? Almost like an apprenticeship or something except not?

Anyone done anything like this?
>>
>>14102687
>to get the high performance automotive degree
I did something similar and think it would have been better if I had gotten a straight mechanical engineering degree.
I did the motorsport degree because I love that shit.
But its viewd dimly by the industry.
I've done okay, but would have done better if I had a BEng in mech eng from a respectable university.
>>
>>14103452
Thanks I try to help where I can, I rarely post in any non Z related thread though.
>>
>>14103647
this is how it's done. get low tier job at a shop and work your way up. being a mechanic sucks but at least you won't spend all that time and money like OP only to figure out it was a waste of time.
>>
>>14102762
>>14102687
>>14102705
Dude, I think you should work at a shop for a while before getting a degree. I don't know a single mechanic with a degree in anything. Well, I know one with a degree in English. He's pretty good! I've never been to a dealership, so maybe they require degrees before hiring you, but I doubt it.

At the very least consult with some actual mechanics about what you should do, and see how they got to where they are. They might tell you a degree is useless. Their opinion is also more valuable than 4chan's. Just do more investigation before committing this much time and money.
>>
>>14103714
Well Im pretty much doing what you did. I was originally going into mechanical engineering. But like you put it, i fucking love motorsports so i want to do that. And i figure that if at first i dont get an awesome job i could always be a mechanic/technician. Is this a proper thought process?
>>
>>14103714
This
>>
>>14105176
Good advice. Well my dad is a mechanic but he just learned from his dad and my dad says just to make sure that there will be jobs available afterwards. According to yall there wont be. But ill try working at a shop or something see how it is then go to school work at a shop or something over there too. I have experience from my dad though its just that i dont think ill be hired with credentials like "my dad". Can i go this route?
