MS3
>>
>Using a 300zx as a daily

Uhhh you don't wanna do that.
From what I've read, they're constantly needing work/maintenance.
>>
>>14093599
What makes you say that? Just curious.
Probably hsould've mentioned 300ZX is 1k cheaper and has 64k miles while MS3 has about 107k
>>
>>14093613
While a 300zx is comfy. It'll be a pain in the ass to maintain and find parts for in the long run.
The ms3 is newer. Still has a huge aftermarket and factory parts available.
I've driven both and really do prefere the ms3
>>
>>14093627
Thanks, I really wanted the 300zx and my dad had found it for me, he seemed really disappointed that I was going for the ms, just wanted to make sure I wasn't being autistic about >muh hot hatch
>>
>>14093613
Google the engine bay
>>
Get the zx, it's so much more desirable
>>
>>14093593
Use to have a z. My back would get sore after driving for longer then 30 mins, was kinda annoying to get in an out of I am 6'2". Was also constantly fixing it but mine was a TT with 140k miles about. The plus side of it though is its more fun to drive (imo) then a speed3 at least 2nd gen, got lots of compliments from random people at uni. Z's are a lot of fun but do not make the best DD, If you don't mind fixing stuff yourself or paying someone a lot of money to do it I don't recommend one. The car is almost 20 years old, stuff will have to be replaced. I know they did make some changes in 96. I think they mite of lost a some HP switching to OBD2.

>>14093641
Basically this my hands would be destroyed after trying to do anything.

I bought a non-turbo 93 300zx with around 80k miles on it a few weeks ago as a DD, am I in for a lot of trouble? It seems to be in fairly good condition and judging from the test drive and from driving it around the last few weeks nothing major is wrong with it. Only had 3 owners in the last 23 years and was really well-kept interior/exterior wise.

Don't know much about wrenching cars but I'm willing to learn. Is there anything I should read / look into as far as 300zx maintenance? Some preventative maintenance I should be doing? Any general advice from previous 300zx owners?
>>
>>14093593
I bought a 300zx to daily that I thought was in great condition. Came with a 180k service and parts for more.

I've had the car for 6 months and have driven it maybe for two weeks total. Currently buying injectors and gaskets. I'm going to get it running as best I can and then sell it to some boyracer or something and pick up a Civic. Terrible decision. It's a damn nightmare to do anything in the engine bay.

Just be aware that the PTU and injectors on those years are prone to failure so set aside money for the inevitable to upgrade to the newer styles.

There's actually a recall on the early style PTU, it's the thing on the passenger side cam cover with a metal heatsink. Here's a pic with the early style (left) and the new (right).

sounds like you need to buy a honda civic and shut the fuck up

why are millennials so god damn stupid?
>>

Yes they do. USDM more than JDM.
>>
>>14096565
Compared to a speed3 the 300zx nonturbo has no aftermarket....

>>14096537
You can upgrade about any part in the Z, just like the S-chassis. They don't have as big of a selection on bodykits as the S-chassis though.

When they're talking about maintenance headache is the fact that there's so much shit crammed into the engine bay that it makes it difficult to work on.
Nissan crammed some emissions equipment into the wheel well, and the ABS unit inside the cabin because they ran out of space in the engine bay.
>>
>>14096537
Yes ConceptZ and Z1 are a few places that sell a lot of parts.

>>14096389
If you have a FB join the 300ZX Tech help page and check out the Z32 Wiki. When you need to take your plenum off make sure you do a lot of deletes and bypasses.
>>
>>14096536
Alright thanks, I already set aside $2k just in case I need to do repairs on the 300zx, good to see it wasn't for nothing. Anything else I should keep in mind or go over?

>>14096770
Thanks, I'll make sure to give those a read.

What about general shit I should know or look over now that I bought it? I'm planning on going down to a mechanic when I get back in town to do a look-over on it to see if they can find anything wrong with it that can be fixed early now rather than for a lot of money later. Also have to get them to fix one of the turning signals (something short-circuited and is causing the light outside and the signal inside to blink super fast.)

Is there any kind of monthly / yearly maintenance work or check ups I should be doing on the ZX?

Was the 60k service done? If not or you are unsure you should do it/have it done.

Also if it is blinking fast its usually because one of the bulbs is out and its letting you know. I would also do a transmission drain and refill (is it A/T or M/T?) Diff fluid change and do a brake fluid flush.
>>
>>14099013
60k service was done already from what I understand.
>>14099018
Should I just play it safe and change all the fluids / oils?
>>
>>14099821
I would, try Redline 75-90 in M/T trans and MT90 in diff. Also power steering uses ATF
>>
>>14096389
>>14096389
You are probably the one exception

Tfw I could have bought an original 1 owner 1994 300zx with 15k miles for 13k but didn't want a vert nor did I want a na
>>
>>14093593
Get the MS3. It's at east somewhat decent.

Given the options, only an idiot will go for the 20yo Nissan.
>>
If you want a daily driver, I wouldn't buy either of those. Even the MS3 has issues, pick something else
