When was the last time a car was equipped from the factory with suicide doors? Was it the RX-8?

Are there safety standards that outlaw them now or something?
>>
Extended cab trucks still have em but for cars I remember Saturn had them too
>>
Ford trucks still have it

Lol, wikipedia actually has a list:

>>
Extended cab pickup trucks and FJ cruisers have this god awful door design

Pretty much. Lack of a B-pillar severely impacts side crash test ratings.

That's why trucks have shied away from suicide doors.

this is to be expected when all the autism in the world can edit wikipedia
>>
>>14085347
All trucks still have them.

Elements and Ions come to mind.
>>
Doesn't all Rolls Royces come with them?
>>
>>14086253
Yep, even their over sized coupes

Suicide doors used to be on many cars because they are better getting in and out of, downside was they would catch the wind if they opened when driving (think about shitty early 1900's cars having this problem) so it became a symbol for luxury cars which now pretty much only the RR have them. Other ones up top are because they are more like half doors.
>>
>>14085322
Saturns, trucks and FJ Cruisers have them. It's far from illegal. No one buys them so every time a company puts one out, sales jump off a cliff after the first model year.
>>
nah chevy switched to the double cab in 2014 and dodge hasnt had them for years

Used to own one like this. If you didn't ratchet the door handle down to lock the door would pop open when you hit a bump.

Chebby didn't shy away from shit. This is my 2015 truk that only comes extended cab/crew cab and has "4" doors
>>
A true suicide door can be opened by itself, without the front door being open meaning that they DO have B pillars.

The reason they're called suicide doors is because if you open them at highway speeds without the front door being open in front of them, aerodynamics will tear the door wide open in half a fucking second and if you have a tight grip on it and no seatbelt (no seatbelts back then) it'll yank you right out of your seat.

Colorados don't have to adhere to the same safety regulations as real trucks.
>>
>>14087876
Speaking of which, would a Colorado be good first truck? I don't want a big ol' extended cab or full-sized truck. Rather something more economical.
>>
>>14087876
My dad and I actualy had a conversation with Chevrolet at the 2014 New York International Auto Show about why the new Silverado ditched the suicide doors on extended cab models. The response wasn't safety relate, but because customers complained about wind noise.

I still think that's a shit excuse, but It was funny to watch my dad bitch at them about making the back seat harder to access.

>>14087889
Colorado or Canyon are great first trucks
>>
The Hyundai Veloster has a passenger side suicide door
>>
>>14087924
It's not a Suicide door. Its a normal door.
>>
>>14087889
>Rather something more economical.

Midsize trucks aren't economical, that's why the market crashed in 2012.

The only advantage of midsize trucks is size difference.
>>
>>14087998
This as well. If you want an economical truck, get an old Ford Ranger or Chevy S10
