Hi /o/, I bought a Lotus Elise S2 roughly 2 years ago for £8,000. It's a 2002 car. It's a Rover K-Series engine and I'd love to turbocharge it. Now I'm more interested in the turbo sound as opposed to any significant gain in performance.
This is why I'm looking for a low boost solution that would put the engine under too much stress. Any suggestions as to how I can go about making this upgrade?
I look forward to your relevant responses.

Also, I'm looking for the cheapest option as well. I've seen bolt-on kits for a variety of engines online and I was also wondering if these would work for the K-series engine. Many thanks.

forged rotating assemblies are getting cheaper and cheaper these days.
a nice garret turbo and a forged rotating assembly would be very reliable.

>Remove muffler
>Attach turbine instead
>Don't hook up compressor to anything

Get a supercharger. Way better sound and easier to install.

How much boost do you think I can run on stock internals?
You are aware there are factory turbo 1.8 k series engines?
Either fit one or get the parts from it.

I read about them, but I seem to be unable to locate one. Would you be able to point me in the right direction? Many thanks anon.

The rover "Tomcat" had a turbo charged k series from factory
I expect someone has swapped one in at some point.
Google it.

don't
get the superior Honda K-series, there are several kits to swap it out there and they can make a lot of power, or get a toyotaq 2zz
Rover k series is just bad, look into a swap forget the turbo

>turbo 1.8 k series engine
An engine conversion exceeds the value of the car. The cheapest K20 engine conversion costs near £10k. The car is only worth £8k.

Friendly reminder that a Rover K-series long block weighs 80 pounds, and people have made well over 300 horsepower with forced induction.

>the car is worth 8l
the thing is honda k swapped elises are sold for a more than a stock rover k elise
>>14075287
yes, but is so unreliable
>>14075305
I appreciate this, but I already have the Elise and I don't have the currency to buy another elise. However, I can part exchange it for a 2004 model with a Toyota engine if you think that would be better for turbocharging.
>>14075317
the 2zz is a good engine aswell, perhaps you could get the parts needed from a wrecked toyota powered elise
change the oil pump because they are prone to exploding and you will be good to go
>>14075205
They came in the MG ZT and the rover 75, you are probably better off getting one from a scrap yard, so you get it complete.
Or get a cheap spares repairs car

What is so unreliable about the rover k series, i'm aware the original headgasket is a problem, but after thats replaced for a multi layer steel one what other issues are they?
