Nothing wrong with the scooters themselves, it's just that the cost of a roadworthy scooter is basically the same as a decent motorcycle, which can do everything a scooter can do + more, and would be more fun as well.

A Zuma 125 like in OP pic can go for anywhere from $2k to $3k. For that you can get a nice 500cc-650cc adventure bike which still gets good gas mileage, is far quicker and more agile, and will give you a lot more bang for your buck.

First of all, some of them are not that bad. But besides few, select models, most have the following disadvantages:
-Noisy, constantly revved
-Small wheels
-Barely faster than bicycles with heap of additional complexity and problems
-Ugly plastic fantastic (Seriously, what was wrong with moped form factor, or classic vespa design).
-Over-engineered there is so much to fuck up for the very little they offer
-Overpriced. It's a kid transport. 15 years back i could get moped for 20EUR. What kids can afford 200+ EUR vehicle?

And the list goes on. There are a ton of practical points, beyond just saying scootah be gaaaaaye and similar stupid slogans.

Some of the points might seem as advantages in specific cases, but then again, it's minority.

Scooters have carry capacity. Honda SH300i is plenty agile, it has the exact same power:weight ratio as a Lotus Elise. Sure there are faster bikes with better power weight ratio, but barely nothing beats it off the line, a 2 stoke supermoto did once.

scooters are really easy to work on, cheap parts and most brands are interchangable

they become very touchy when you tune to higher specs tho, tuning to cvt to the powerband takes a lot of trial and error

i bought a sr50 to commute 12 miles one way to university. it was certaintly better than spending hours on busses. sr50s with the limiter removed are probably the fastest 50ccs you can get on the market with stock parts.

The small wheels aren't good on shitty roads (which is why in places with shitty roads people will be driving underbones). But in the city there's really no downside vs. a motorcycle, except that they don't look cool (at least to Western eyes).

she took it across canada and back and now shes stuck trying to get 2000 for it...
since the model was only offered in canada for 2 years or something parts are hard to find

where i live theres special licensing for scooters above 50cc, if you take the road test on one you get a tag on your motorcycle licence that says *limited to scooters under 250cc* and you need to retake the test on a motorcycle to remove the restriction

i personally dont see any purpose for the burgman/silverwing style scooters either

Same mandatory training for both. Plan is to ride the 125 bike until I know what the fuck I'm doing, then go for the direct access scheme to bigger bikes because I'm not underage.
