Post em.

VQ35
-Reliable. My Uncle's got one in an 05 G35 coupe and he is the worst car owner ever, barely does any maintenance and he's had it for 10 years since new, still runs.
-Sound. It's quite the nastiest little V6 I've ever heard, even on an a stock altima it sounds good.
-High ass compression made VQ35 really powerful for the time, considering its displacement.

Cant have a V6 thread without one of these.

Actually wanted to swap one in my car but i don't know if that's possible (W-body)

unfortunately that's the only V6 i know enough about to confidently post.

I bet the supercharger whine sounds awesome over that V6, My mom almost bought a cobalt SS back in 07, but we needed a sedan.

Does not compute.

VQ35 is heavy and wide. Like, as big as an LS (if not bigger), with way less output.

>>14061972
>heavy iron block
>iron heads
>IRON FUCKING HEADS
>90 degree V6 for maximum can't-put-it-anywhere
3800 a shit.

Also, yes, the W-body came with Buick V6's from the factory, so swapping them in should be possible.
>>
>>14061995

>IRON FUCKING HEADS
>90 degree V6 for maximum can't-put-it-anywhere

>my sides are in orbit

Yea they had their disadvantages but they were the back-bone of GM's sedans kinda like the 60s when every american commuter-car had a V8

But glad to hear the swap is possible

>VTEC if you give a shit about gimmicky stuff like that

My TL has been though countless collisions. has had almost body panel replaced once, has shorted out half the electronics from water damage, but 170K miles later the engine hasn't had so much as a hiccup with the absolute bare-bones maintenance I've done on it.

Honda/Acura has forever earned my trust in their engines.

It's not just possible, it's fucking common. Given you were talking about a W-body, can I assume you have a 3100 or 3400 powered car? If so, keep the original engine. It's a better engine overall than the 3800 will ever be.

because apparently GM made the VQ V6 before Nissan did, and they did it using a pushrod V6 engine block.
Pull the heads off an LQ1 and there are literal unused holes for the pushrods.

I have an IS350 as well and I know what you're talking about. It's not really the VVT. It's more related to the torque curve. Basically the torque plateaus around 4500 RPM to redline for our engines. That's why you feel the most pull there. In my experience many N/A engines feel like this. If you want more pull lower down, you have to drive a turbo car like the 335i.

lol whats going on in this thread? The VQ didn't copy anything GM did. The LQ1 that you're referencing is from 1991 at the oldest and the VG30DE (a proper comparison and spiritual predecessor to the VQ) is from 1987 in the 300zr and MID4 concept. Really grasping at straws trying to prove GMs superiority huh?
>>
>>14062915

its a 3.6 liter. I'm not sure if that's related to the 3800 or not or if its better.
>>
>>14063564
The 3.6L? That would be completely unrelated.

Why would you drop the glorious 3.6L for the 3800? The 3.6L makes more power than even the supercharged versions of the 3800.

Your stock engine is 10 times better than the 3800 could ever hope to be. Just keep it as is.
>>
>>14063658

Ah, i had no idea. i do hope its as reliable and durable as the 3800 as i plan on driving it for years to come.

Only 2 W-body cars got the 3.6L
2005-2009 Buick Lacrosse's (top of the line trim levels, makes about 250 HP)
2012+ Chevrolet Impala (2014-2015 is fleet order only. 300 HP)

Early 3.6's had trouble with the timing chain tensioners, particularly in the Lambda CUV's, but the problem was quickly resolved. I haven't heard any horror stories about the 3.6
>>

2012 Impala. Bought with 21,000 miles on it and now has 34,000 on it. no problems so far.

Im at 170k on my Series 3 S/C, leaking oil from the valve cover gaskets and coolant from the intake gasket and it does not care. Starts up immediately with no issue and does not care if I beat on it. Great engine

>Makes a solid 265hp
>Mileage is ok at best
>Reliable as FUCK
>Even if something does go bad, the engine is so cheap and common, finding any replacement parts is easy
>Cars it powers are also cheap and a dime a dozen, while also being nice (HUD, leather, Bose sound, etc)
>Has a huge aftermarket full of inexpensive quality parts that give a huge boost to power
>Dat whine

Only cons really are the tranny and the sound (has a decent low end), which are both not great.

Just got a new PCM in for $60 and raised the rev limiter to 6k, unlocked the speed limiter to past 140, WOT fuel is richer, and the tranny tables are changed to shift quicker, harder and improve reliability. Next is some exhaust work and to fix those leaks.

The one used in the Regal GNX was certainly powerful (for its time at least) stepping on the toes of Corvettes with 300HP (had lots of torque) 0-60 in 5-ish seconds

As for fuel economy yea i overestimated that.

I only ask because I do see a lot of black people bogging out cars. I always figured they didn't know how to drive a stick but now I see it's cause they are retarded.

>I cruise at 3500rpm on the freeway and nothing happens

First off I said bogging down, that's what happens when you stomp on it in two high of a gear and nothing happens. Also cursing at 3500 on the freeway is outright retarded. Why not just up shift and cruise at a lower RPM? Why burn gas for no reason? You are gonna fuck that car up in a month.
>>
>>14066274
Also what are you cursing on the highway at 3500 RPMs? Your moms minivan? Do you put it in 3 or something? Does she know you beating on it like that?

It's a hyundai sonata with a lame, 5 speed shiftronic transaxle, I shift into 4th gear on the freeway for passing power if fuel isnt an issue.
>>

>hyundai sonata

Where does that come in in relation to your mom's minivan, is it your fathers car? You do know if you floor it the auto will downshift for you. Plus before you where talking about cursing at max tq and now you are talking about down shifting to pass.

What is it anon? Is it your mother or father that is half black? Is your father around? Does he know you beat on the cars like that? Does he know you waste gas that i'm assuming you don't replace?

>>
>>14066365
So your dad was half black and dead? Where you the anon talking about his moms minivan? What happened to it?

>>14066374
>The car is not beat on, like doing burnout and shit, just enjoyed

If i'm understanding you right, you cruise on the highway in a low gear for max tq for no other reason then if you need to pass someone. This is 100% beating on a car and is right there with burnouts and "shit".
>>
>>14066408
>where
pardon me, meant were
>>
>>14066408
The anon mentioning the minivan was shitposting. I don't always cruise at 3500rpm, just when I need the engine to have umph, and a lamda engine with a big heavy flywheel and parts makes all its torque at 3500rpm, a low rpm, that's not at all beating on the car when it redlines at 6000 rpm. This car is in better shape than most on the road.
>>
>>14066430
>cruise at 3500rpm, just when I need the engine to have umph

I don't know how many times or different ways it needs to be said. That is 100% beating on a car, why do you do that in a car? It's an auto, it will downshift if you step on it. Even if it was stick it's still beating on it. You are putting more wear and tear on the engine by doing this.

Anon, I'm starting to think the stereotypes about black kids with no dads are true.
>>
>>14066446
lol, i'm more like a cracker than anything else, I obey the law like a pussy, work, and take full responsibility for my fuckups. But seriously that damn sonata runs fine. The most worn out thing is the windshield wipers, which I need to replace, because rain is coming.

I'm pretty sure he just doesn't mean cruise. Just like when I downshift in my 5 speed mustang to match traffic speeds before I stand on it. Yes... I'm "cruising" as in not running away from the other cars, It's more that I'm positioning getting ready for a pass or lane change etc.
If dat nigger is actually just cruising at 3500 rpm...
a. if you can afford that mpg you should just get a sc400.
b. what are you doing m8?
>>

How you think all them belt driven accessorizes are doing? If you are gonna keep being retarded for no reason you might want to look into under drive pulleys.

Also just know that if your father is very disappointed in you for acting like a retard for no reason

>>14066494
But he said "cruise for max tq" and when I asked him he did not deny he was just rolling down the interstate over reving like a retard

I'm talking about the internals of the accessories, bet them bearings got some nice heat discoloration on them.

How do you know? Got a borescope to check the cylinder walls? Break know the engine and check the mains? You don't know what the engine is doing

So it's okay for you to be retarded because your cousin uses drugs?

Anyone that tracks a car for a while will now the accessories take a fucking beating being run at high RPMs for a long time. I'm saying if he is running at 10k rpm his hoses are the last of his worries.
He's blowing the motor before the hoses wear out.

I don't have time for that shit, I've taken the oil cap off, just warm air, practically no blow by, The car is just a total beast

Well this thread went to shit real quick but I'll bite, my grandparents have a 2008 ES with a 2GR-FE in it, amazing engine, reliability wise the only big thing that goes are the oil pan seals. But man it's got power of you need it, would to crazy well in an mr2 if you can fit it.
>>
>>14066563
This is some next level shit.
I think the implication is that when you take off the oil cap if the oil doesn't shoot out and blow by you as a person, the motor doesn't have any blow by.

It's not poofing or smoking, so the motors still good.

By torque around around do you mean riding around in the wrong gear because you think it's cool? How is that in any way efficient. Though diesel VWs are cool, wife has one and it's a great daily driver and comfy for long trips. A performance car in away way it's not.
>>
>>14066670

>>
>>14066738
The VW diesel makes max torque at 1750rpm
sonata V6 at a whopping 3500rpm
it takes longer to rev up to 3500rpm than upshift
The Vw will be faster than the sonata to accelerate from a stop.
The sonata has a shit ton of HP and will eventually pass it on a straight.
thats the difference, torque gets you going, HP makes your top speed higher.
>>
>>14062337

Look man, i'll i'm saying is that i'd rather have a car, that tops out at 120mph with the efficiency of a 2.0L 4cyl, that has near instant torque that of a V6 than a high horsepower car that needs a high rpm, and fuel.
>>
>>14066795
wants a 4cyl that equals a 6 cyl instead of just owning an 8.
Jesus Christ cars are dead aren't they?
man fuck me. eco boost mustang is going to be the next 15 years before electric self driving cars take over.

Anon, everything you say is wrong. My 2.0d passat does 0-60 in like 8.5 seconds. I would bet your v6 gook car is faster even with you beating on it harder then your dick for years

>>14066813
Are you sure you are 20? You act like you are 13. Also since you won't bother to even google what tq is I'll just assume you are gonna let your black and Irish blood keep you retarded. No I knew him until I was 11 when he passed.

Also your passat has 136hp, that's why it's so slow, the sonata has 249 crank horsepower, of course it does 60 in like really quick.
>>
>>14066849
At this point i'm not sure if you are trolling or this retarded. You said the VW diesels are fast, I can assure you they are not, they are hardly peppy.

Everything you said is wrong, every opinion and preference is shit. I'm trying to help you anon but you have to stop resisting. Don't let your African blood control you. It's not to late!
>>
>>14066866
>hardly peppy
Then why do I see 90HP VWs going 120mph, and accelerating quite fast for the low HP, yet the garbage gas 4cyls my mom had when I was a kid were slow to begin with, and when you put an an adult passenger and to kids in it, was even more shitty and slow.

Torque is like strength, the girls at my workplace can probably run faster than me, but they cant run faster than me with 50lbs in my hands.
>>
>>14066886
>Then why do I see 90HP VWs going 120mph

Maybe down hill with a strong tail wind and 5 miles to get up to speed

>4cyls my mom had when I was a kid were slow to begin with, and when you put an an adult passenger and to kids in it, was even more shitty and slow

So your mom's economy people mover was slow, okay what do you think a diesel VW is? It's a fucking economy people mover that is slow

>Torque is like strength, the girls at my workplace can probably run faster than me, but they cant run faster than me with 50lbs in my hands

I asked you about tq and HP, you have google at your finger tips, and that is what you shit out?
>>
>>14066897
It isn't even that scientific, why else would a diesel school bus weighing a shitload be faster with a diesel than it would with a 249hp v6 with less torque? If horsepower is so damn good, why aren't semi trucks gas engines? It's because they pull hard, and can do work efficiently.
>>
>>14066897
and yes, if my moms shitty economy car had a diesel, you bet your ass it wouldve moved the whole family with no problem, because the engine is so low revving it could stay in that torque sweet spot of 2000rpm.
>>
>>14066886
>>14066694
You realise that torque is just the amount of force per revolution right? Even though your moms car and the golf produce the same amount of torque at 3.5k and 1.75k revs respectively, your moms car is producing a lot more power.
>>
>>14066906
Uhhh dude you really don't understand what you are trying to say here. You have some vague notion that your trying to expand but you lack the knowledge

>>14066911
but anon you said here
>>14066886
>garbage gas 4cyls my mom had when I was a kid were slow to begin with, and when you put an an adult passenger

So whats your moms old car gas or diesel.

The fact is you keep banging on about tq yet have no fucking clue what it is makes me sick.. You basing all your "knowledge" around some retard pre school level of comprehension of the concept of tq. This is why people hate black people, you are choosing to remain ignorant. You have no idea what this units of work means.

Ever stop and think about gearing? I can put insane gears in my Passat and have umm how did you put it? Ohh yeah "a car that kicks ass" but top out at 80MPH. You are an embarrassment and a walking talking example on why race mixing makes retarded kids
>>
>>14066914
Well yeah it is, but for my city and mild highway driving, a torquey little motor just cant be beat for its low rpm power.
>>
>>14066925
Yes, I get it, horsepower is a good thing, that's why I boogie so much in the sonata V6, but its not the 249hp I enjoy, it's the torque that throws you back in the seat when you punch it on a roll.
>>
>>14066932
>
Also, when youv'e got torque your engine barely has to try, so you can be light on throttle and save gas.
>>
>>14066928
Once again using words and concepts you don't understand. Gearing would make all the difference in the world for city driving.

>torquey little motor just cant be beat for its low rpm power

Yeah it can by a big american pushrod V8. By your line of thinking a corvette should be the best at city driving all that tq down low dude. Think about it man

>>14066932

>>
>>14066971
Both them things have their purpose. Being peppy in city driving is not one of them for the diesels
>>
>>14066978
Hell yeah it is, the original volkswagen rabbit diesel got 60mpg, A diesel nowdays gets artificially low mpgs because of the restrictive diesel emissions bullshit imposed on them.
>>
>>14066984
What does MPG gotta do with peppy?
>>
>>14066984
Also I saw a newish TDI peel the fuck out at a stop a little while ago, I was so jelly, cause the sonata will need to be brake torqued to throw down as much power as that TDI did in a second.
>>
>>14066988
The high ass compression is what makes diesels so torquey and pull hard, and they use more energy of their fuel, meaning they squeeze more power.
>>
I've gotta go to work, Just think about what I said about that torque, it's good shit. Keep your rpms up in that torque sweetspot and enjoy that vehicle instead of being scared of breaking the shit.

>>
>>14069645
Dude I dont even know why i'm here still arguing about this. Cursing at 3500RPMs just for the fun of it puts more wear on the entire engine, burns more gas, and is retarded as hell
>>
>>14063774
The 3.5 will only be used in specialty vehicles like the GT and Raptor, the new hotness is the 3.0 ecoboost based on the 2.7
>>
>>14069645
You mite be putting more wear on an engine but its not burning more gas, its probably burning less as the engine is probably closer to max torque where it is most efficient. Gas consumption is not related to rpms. You can burn more gas at idle then at 6k rpms if you are off throttle and coasting.
>>
>>14069798
Well that's the thing, an engine's wear is not determined by how many revolutions it does. Look at it like this, a 40 thousand mile engine that's never had an oil change will be more worn my mom's engine with 80 thousand miles, and has always had good oil in it.
