Herro.
Im european and I want a used street bike. Id like a lightweight one, under 95hp for licensing reasons, I don't dig naked even though it wouldnt be a problem, I want it fast and preferably 2 stroke because I love the sound and low weight. Pic related would be perfect but it is expensive for me (€2000 is already a bit too much for me). What do.
>>
>>14061006
GS500 you broke euronigger.
>>
>>14061006
Look up some 4stroke Naked like GS500/SV650, less vibrations, better fuel efficiency and less maintenance.
Its just cheaper to run for everyday.

whole reason I ask is that a local used car dealership is trying to unload one on craigslist for $1950 due to a missing title. Trying to get a VIN off of them .

I think I'm just going to be a killjoy and make a spreadsheet of recommended bikes' HP/torque, wet weight, seat heights, etc. Whenever I find something on craigslist that looks interesting I'll pull up the specs and compare it to whats recommended.

It weighs as much as a ninja 250, it's not your super leightweight-performance supersport or a dirtbike. 170kg is pretty normal for a standard.

It's the weakest of the 500s but still ahead of any 250/300cc. And almost unbeatable in price/performance since it costs almost nothing
>>
>>14063702
Ninja 250 is only 374lb wet and makes 30 hp

Ninja 250 lb/hp - 12.5
GS500 lb/hp - 9.3

Acceleration is the same, gs500 has higher top speed, that's about it.

Fact is, fast enough to pull away, cruising at 130km/h - 160km/h no problem, can commute everyday, runs forever on basic maintenance. If you really want you can upgrade the springs for 60€.

Decent commuter and beginner bike, if you expect more for that money kill yourself.

It isn't bad when put up to its early 80's contemporaries.
38hp/373 lb/26 ft·lb (GS500E)
34hp/401 lb/ 21 ft·lb (Honda CB400T)
37hp/362 lb/13 ft·lb (1st gen Ninja 250)

Granted, those numbers aren't anything to write home about, but saying it it is heavy and under powered is a bit much.

No the GS500 is a GS450 with a bigger bore, it is a early 80's design. Just like the KLR650 is a mid eighties design.
You are going to have to show something with that 43 hp figure.

Your descirption fits to all (or better none) of the 90s 500s. (CB500, ER5, GS500)

Fact is they all weigh almost the same and all blow a 230hp car 0-60. The numbers on paper are hardly, if at all noticeable IRL. Only the GPZ500 with 60hp makes a real difference.

Well thats bullshit, just like the numbers on your screen cap.

(Torque*RPM)/5252[radians] = HP
from Wiki
(24.5ft*lb)*(8000rpm) = 196000ft*lb*rpm
196000/5252 [radians is a pure number conversion] = 37.319hp with a 1/1 coefficient of performance.

Basically, that 43hp is bullshit.

The contexts are different. "Peak HP" in thermodynamics is calculated via bore stroke, compression, the quality and portion of air, and some other stuff specifically, Stoichiometric combustion or Adiabatic flame temperature.

However, that is all calculated at the face of the piston, it does not accurate represent power because of loses from gearing, transmission, and the true coefficient of performance. That is why torque is used to compute the amount of horsepower reaching the road.

clean the bars and grips with windex then shoegoo them on. you can rough up the bars and grips with sandpaper if you like too.
then when its time to pull them off you just slice and peel

That bike has never been past a 45 degree angle and certainly he does not ride track. Q3 are average street tires but are over hyped and shit tier when it comes to actual riding. For street warriors and novice to intermediate go for it. This is why i dislike gixxers and the people who ride them.

No hate on dunlop as a brand their 211 are real nice. Their Q3 are over hyped and only highly sought after for price factor. If you can't afford a real set of tires for track don't bother going. Novice-intermediate go for it. As long as your body position is good you can put a knee down on shinkos it doesn't matter. But again you guys take everything out of proportion. Original post was about Advanced/ Real track day riding not beginners. We all start as beginners and work our way up. Some guy blatantly lying about some shittier Advnaced/Racing tire grinds my gears. If he had stated he loves them on the street etc i wouldn't have cared.

>>14065339
Had michelins before they're not bad. Personally and what I've seen at the track are 211/SC/RS10's. I believe there is one michelin called the Super Sport? Or something along those lines thats supposed to be real good. For street Any tire is good though.

>>14065369
I wouldn't worry about getting slicks or race tires to begin with. This is a perfect example for pp3 q3 bt016 all those tires are more than enough for your first track days. You tend to focus more on body position more than riding harder. Once you reach intermediate and your BP is good then i recommend scrapping the q3/pp/s20/bt016 etc and investing in a more race orientated tire. Your lap times will drop and you will get bumped up. Don't worry about your tires for novice though just practice bp.

>>14065373
two of you got annoyed that i bashed the Q3. The reason i bashed them was not because of the tire themselves they're great bang for your buck street/ beginner track. I bashed them specifically for a squid gsxr liar stating bullshit statements about the tire. From there everyone thought i hated the tire i really don't. I hate people who lie though.

PS i have ran Q3's like i stated above. Good street and canyon tire. I would drop them at the door once you enter intermediate at the track though they don't handle heat too well and get greasy and slip out. Thats why you buy real track tires once you do racing racing.

Depends the Supercorsas i used to run 3000 miles out of the rear. RS10 Bridgestone around 2500 miles. Depends on tire pressure and how much you rip on them though. But don't expect much. If you're interested in tracking take the pp3 you have now. Do Q3, Bridgestone S20. I used the Q3 for canyon riding and like them they don't last long either though 5k out of the rear. cheap though with rebate. The s20's take a lil while more to heat up but they handle the heat better and give you 1-2k more miles out it over the Q3. Just depends whats on sale you can find both for 200 a set with mail in rebates.
>>
>>14065393

Hey /dbt/, I cleaned up my carbs over the weekend, got them synced, set the idle speed, ect. but my idle hunts a bit, it seems to stay at about 1400, but sometimes dips down to 1k or up to 2k if the engine is really hot. My bike is about 10 years old and still 4k miles from the next time im supposed to check the valves. Is this just the bike being old (and cold outside) or is it something to worry about?

check for any loose tubes and boots, airleaks will make it run erratically.
an easy test is to put some dishsoap or motor oil in a spray bottle and while its hunting spray the boots and manifold faces to see if there is an air leak, if there is it will change when you hit it since the thick oil/soap will plug it briefly
and of course did you replace the orings in your carbs as you went? if not, did you at least oil them on reassembly?

I've ridden an MT-09 and MT-07, same problem on both, undersprung, the only issue is the MT-09 feels like a litrebike at the bottom and a 600 at the top so it has enough go to make that really evident, it's both the fork and the rear shock, it just wallows up and down over bumps, it's like riding a waterbed and the mt-09 definitely has enough juice to tie it's chassis into knots.

I was genuinely surprised when I rode the MT-09, I thought all the reviews were exaggerating (in the same way they complain that big piston isn't as good as ohlins TTX), nope, it's really bad.

Worse than an SV650 which gets the stick a lot for having bad suspension.

the mt-07 actually kind of "digs" on corner entry with the front fork, and you can't adjust it out with preload because they didn't put that in for some reason.

It's such a confusing bike.

plebs love it though so whatever, I will admit the engine is great. Spins up real quick and sounds amazing.
>>
>>14065403

Spray carb cleaner around boots and anywhere air could leak.
>>
>>14066642
There is literally nothing wrong with dual shocks and the mt07 has conventional forks as well. Nothing wrong with conventional forks either unless you're on a racetrack.

If you're viccb400sf then congratulations you've surpassed kkk in idiocy levels because kit kat at least only makes ignorance mistakes. You are actually making shit up as you go

There's nothing that a motorcycle manufacturer won't do to cut down on manufacturing costs, but Honda at least usually makes sure that brakes and suspension don't lag behind the engine (that their engines are pretty lackluster is a wholly different matter)

Yamaha is sorta like the Toyota in the 90s in that they do make good bikes but some of them are only great on paper

I'm sure he's just referring to the tank, plenty of other I4 bikes have fat engines but feel skinny to straddle, most of them actually.

Look at the tank of an R1 for example, notice how it's all centralized and goes underneath the seat a little bit, keeps it thin.

you can't actually get a LAMS CB650 IIRC anyway, they're like close to 80 hp, they'd need a heap of restricting.

They have the exact same down low power as a P-twin 650 but with more up top so I have the sneaking suspicion they'd be wheelie machines though, you could pop them from 3.5k like a twin but ride each gear out a lot longer

In victoria they made it so you have to stay on restrictions for 3 years and 3 months so they said restrictors can be put on 650's so people can just take them off after the 3 years instead of selling the bike and buying something larger.

Something to do with trying to stop people riding a 250 for a year then buying a 100hp 600 and killing themselves on it, more of a transition into the bigger bikes.

australia is a beautiful motorcycling nirvana unlike any other, mountainous twisties as tight as you can imagine, 150 km long straight roads, deserts, rainforests we've got everything, it explains how, despite our low population we've produced so many champions across multiple riding disciplines, both road and off road.

That's why the government decided to take a shit on that by being awful to balance out the universe.

It is possible to de-restrict a restricted LAMS bike and re-register it so it's recognised as a non-LAMS bike but I don't think it's possible to do the inverse.

Although I remember hearing about a couple GSXR600s and a ZX-6R that got through that loophole before they shut it down.
