I don't understand what the arguing of having a larger engine in a truck is all about. It doesn't even make sense to me to have such a large in a truck at all; I doubt that you transport things around you so heavy that you need a v8 in your truck, and it can hardly be about speed either. I worked for years in a farm in the country in europe. I had a 30 year old v4 with 75 HP and 200k on the odometer and i was able to carry everything just fine, the max I ever carried was one ton of water, once a week.

I'm gonna be honest, it does get a little sketchy (and slow) at inclines with heavy weight on the back, and most of the distance is done on the road. Sure a larger truck would do the job a 100 times better, but it doesn't make sense to drive a big truck every day when it's only needed once a week.
I understand your argument about pulling weight, and I'd of course much rather drive a silverado ltz z71, but it doesn't make any sense for me to own such a large vehicle. 75HP V4 sounds like it could be a MkI Transit to me.
The older Transits could barely get to highway speeds unloaded, but low gearing meant they could eventually get up to a decent speed on level ground, even with a load. Somewhere around 50mp/h. Later Transits could do a lot better.

But if you want to travel on a high speed motorway for a long distance, you get an actual chassis cab truck, not a pick up.

That power and weight is nice when you want to tow your boat 2 or 3 weekends a year. At least that's how lots of people justify driving their hueg F-250. We do what we want because we can!". Even in somewhat densely populated areas, you can easily DD a bigger pickup truck as long as you don't park in parking garages a lot. Sitting up high in a big truck is nice when you are in city traffic. And gas is cheap, so it's not like it costs $200 to fill up the 25gal tank like in Yurop.

And if I do need to tow something heavy, I just grab the ball out of the trunk and hook up to the trailer.
