REAR WHEEL DRIVE
Can't be beat in the <$5k range
>>
memes aside how would a light rwd compare to a FWD counterpart. If you were to put an 86 vs the new type r for example would the 86 have an edge due to the inherent performance orientated nature of the RWD platform?
>>
>>14034620
The modern 86 isn't really set up all that well off the showroom floor, and the modern Type R is extremely well set up. It'd be no contest, Type R winning.
>>
>>14034620
The new type r is an outlier that we do not include in these debates.
Especially in the poor fag price range
>>
>>14034634
Is the ST an outlier too? Because it'll smash the 86.

The Twins have the performance of a last gen Prelude. Handling and straight line.
>>
Even an s13 vert is better than a prelude
Just roll cage the vert and boom, rwd amazing car
>>
>>14034620
>inherent performance orientated nature
Thats not a thing
>>
>>14034680
Nope
>>
>>14034675
To be fair they are kind of set up to be not very benchrace-able stock. Throw some decent tires on them as well as front camber bolts and you're getting somewhere.
>>
>>14034680
But the Toyota commercials said that it is. Low 2 ground. Perfect weight distribushn. Maneul transmcion.

The FRS has as much "inherent performance orientated nature" as a 240sx.
>>
>>14034708
The ST will still smash it, though.

The FRS is flat out slow. It is completely noncompetitive to use NA 4 Cylinder engines in that segment.
>>
>>14034729
It's only real competition is the Miata, I have no idea what you're talking about.
>>
>>14034746
Its competition is anything in its price point. The Genesis is out since there's no longer a 2.0T. The ST is there. The GTI is there. Hopefully the Si will be in there too, but the twins will probably be no longer in production by that point because the only people they appeal to can only afford beat to shit Miatas.

All the FRS had to do to be successful is to not a use a retarded 380lbs Boxer 4 and instead use an I4 FI putting out 220-230BHP.
>>
>>14034765
One of the key design goals of the 86 was a low hood, they needed the boxer. Also by your logic a fucking Colorado is competition for a GTI.
>>
>>14034719
Rwd is not inherently good.
Fwd is not inherently bad.
>>
>>14034790
No by his logic performance trims/vehicles are competition to other performance trims/vehicles in a similar price group
>>
>mfw i got a 350hp ls1 dunnydoor for 4k
felt good
>>
>>14034790
No, the Colorado isn't, obviously. Unless you're being pedantic. But go look at any halfway reputable automotive journalism and see what the FRS is compared to.

As far as the low hood goes, this could have been addressed in the early stages of the car's development. More than half of the engine sits in front of the axle. They use an extremely long transmission bell housing and an extremely long transmission shifter extension. The transmission and engine together weigh a whopping 480LBS in the FRS/BRZ. If they used an I4, it could have been tucked back far enough to keep the hood identical or maybe high 2-3". Basically making no impact on its looks. The real weight distribution of the FRS is 54-46, iirc. An I4 would offer better weight distribution too.

Seriously, the FRS is a pretty subpar car. Toyota did an exceptional job advertising it and captivates hearts of millions just to disappoint half of them. The other half are autistic enough to stick to their blind fanboyism.
>>
>>14034828
And before someone spouts some muh boxer rotation inertia or low gravity point bullshit. Even at the 400whp, none of would be perceivable to any one but Vettel.
>>
>>14034828
53/47

*according to GT6
>>
>>14034802
This is false rwd inherently has better balanced drivetrain. Fwd is unrecoverable at a lower traction threshold.
>>
>>14034872
Not according to the people who make LS swap kits for them and have dissected the car. Hold I'll find the link.

The ST would be better RWD.
The 86 would be worse as FWD.
This is scientific fact.

As usual shit posters have ignored OPs subject entirely

EFFU EFFU CAN'T COMPETE.
RWD CAN'T BE BEAT.

This. Doesn't matter how perfect your countersteer is in fwd, chances of you catching and correcting oversteer or nil.

You sound like a retard who probably is autistic in real life, they design the cars to take advantage of their drive trains, and would be complete shit as a rwd

there are people on /o/ who think the 5th gen prelude should have been FR

>>
>>14036431
The 5th gen wasn't perfect. A step in the wrong direction from the 4th gen. The BB6 Prelude had horrible weight distribution at nearly 63/37 thus ATTS/typeSH didn't help enough to keep it competitive. The S2K was the answer taking what Honda had learned from technologies that the Prelude had. BTW new tech, all new features, comp programs or systems where ALWAYS 1st introduced to the public on the Prelude,

The sad shame is people with no knowledge come to /o/ or any other medium of automotive crap online and take every piece of info as fact.

Shows like topgear dont help much when people watch them as educational and not entertainment.

Not to mention the number of un-knowledgeable posters here trumps the ones who know their shit and it leads to a high volume of posters disagreeing with facts, further skewing the new or unsavvy users views on what is and isn't correct.

Its a sad shame honesty but I figure every bit helps.

>>
>>14036727
Americans think fwd is shit because all they get is shitty fwd econoboxes, they don't realize the type r's and shit are faster than alot of rwd sports cars. Also the cobalt turbo is fast as fuck around a track but it never gets talked about
>>
Is 50 50 even good for fwd
>>
>>14037222
No.
>>
>>14037292

>>
>>14036707

>>

>>
Fuck all yall
>>
stop this
>>
>>14037188

The condesending euro appears. You're talking about production cars meant to be driven on the streets. Performance oriented or not every production car is designed for street use.

Physics says that a rwd car will always out perform a front wheel drive car with all things being equal. When rules and regulations apply like in real racing, drivers want maximum grip. This is why almost every race built car will be rwd and never fwd.
>>
>>14040503
why are you so convinced you're right?
>>
>>14034620
>inherent performance orientated nature of the RWD platform?
You mean the first possible layout we came up with, because fwd was impossible from a engineering point of view?
>>
>>14036573
>being such a contrarian faggot you wind back up at mainstream
>>
>>14034604
it used to be that they were cheaper to make than fwd
and some claim that it is easer to get the gearbox and clutch out of a rwd car
but I think otherwise
allot of times its just quicker to drop the engine and gear box and fix all service parts while at it

>>
>>14040503
main thing is with fwd you have to drive within the grip limits and be more careful on exit and entry
something that is better done on a road you know well
rwd is better for dealing with late apex and decreeing radius turns
>>
>>14042239
LOL no
>>
>>14042190
Don't be mad you bought a 240 save your shekels for something better buddy

FWD is for people who really wanted RWD but couldn't find a reasonably priced one in their area, so after watching THAT initial D season and reading all about the cars and reading Over Rev they decided
