$15,000.

What do you buy? I know nothing about the quality of each make, so I'm trying to learn what not to buy. I find something and someone tells me that make breaks once a year or costs an entire ass to repair.

Spend 5k on a used Japanese car. Camry works. Save the 10k for your goddamn future, or something else besides 4 wheels and seats. Happy holidays.
>>
When in doubt, really nice low mileage example of cars off of the sticky. Also, don't necessarily go by make, go by model.
>>
>>14020876
I want something at least 2010. I only see Corollas for this price range.
>>
>>14020883
>at least 2010
Why? You're out of range for most warranty stuff, might as well buy a 90s/early 2000s car with lower miles, it'll be easier to fix.
>>
>>14020873
2011 Mustang GT
>>
>>14020892
Mustang mpg is way too low for me. I would love it otherwise.
>>
>>14020902
They get 25 highway. What the fuck are you looking for? A Prius? If you're looking for best MPG then you have pretty much already settled on boring economy cars.
>>

>>

What luxury cars should I look for in this price range? What years?

I got my Dart for $14k, comfy car, nice options, fun to drive, 30mpg driving like a douche, can get 42mpg driving like a pussy, lowers your insurance because of it's safety rating, and it's pretty reliable. Only downside really is that it's slow as balls. I mean it has alright acceleration because turbo but yeah it's not race car.
Plus you can find one now for a lot cheaper, though don't get the base model. I'd recommend a Limited, Rallye, Aero, or GT
>>
>>14020977
I was looking at the Dart. I drive a Chevy Cavalier right now so I'm used to slow as balls.

It's definitely worth test driving. I have the Aero with the 1.4T. I think the SE and SXT have the 2.0, the GT has the 2.4.
The 2.4 is the fastest, but the 1.4t is best imo because of the turbo. If you can get one with the Apline system I'd recommend it. Also the base model non touch screen radio sucks btw.
>>
>>14021053
I like them but they are like the de-facto high school girl car. Try to get an early Scion XB if you can, those cars are unkillable.
>>
>>14021055
There are a lot of SXT available in my area for like $10-11k.
>>
>>14021053
>dart poster
What ever you do, don't get a fuckin Kia. Main reason, they're crash rating. As an EMT I deal with a decent amount of car accidents. I've seen people in Toyotas, Chevy's, etc get it bad accidents but the airbags make it so they're relatively fine. Kias...not so much. Dude in a Soul hit a small tree, not even going incredibly fast. Only 1 tiny airbag in the steering wheel and that's it. Dude was givin CPR and was pronounced at the hospital. They're decent cars for the price, but man they are fuckin garbage in accidents.
>>
If you don't mind how small they are, you can pick up a brand new Fiat 500 (non-Abarth) for less than $15k. They actually feel relatively quick, good MPG's and if you're tall you won't be cramped in them. They're less boring than a lot of econoboxes.
>>
>>14020873
7th or 8th gen Civic Si.
Reliable, good gas mileage, still fun.
>>
>>14021085
Do you feel safe in the Dart? How have repairs been?
>>
>>14021090
I might consider a Civic, but aren't they the most stolen and chopped up cars in the world?
>>
>>14021067
They really aren't that bad, with some of the options they're just fine. Check em out, worst comes to worst you don't like it and move on
>>
>>14021103
The Si trim only comes in a manual trans. So if you live in the US you won't really have to worry about theft.
However if you don't know how to manual.... You should learn!
>>
>>14021113
How long does it take to learn?
>>
Pre-owned 2015 Altima or Camry with about 20k miles from Hertz

My previous cars were a 02 MR2, and a 97 Subaru Legacy. They were roughly $150/month insurance (each car that is). When I got my '13 Dart that shit dropped to $90/month. It has full front and side airbags so I feel pretty safe.
Knock on wood, but I haven't needed any repairs yet. I get free oil changes for life, and they do a system check every time too. I just changed my spark plugs and it's still running strong (only 48K miles, but still). Pretty easy car to work on, especially with the help of the forums.
>>
>>14020873
10 little japanese shitboxes for £300/500 a pop. spend the rest making one a racecar
>>
>>14021129
I have a 2015 camry as a rental right now since my car got totaled and I'm happy with it, would definitely get one but probably with the V6 for muh power.
>>
>>14021124
Easy to learn. Very difficult to master.
You can learn how to drive a manual trans in a few days with practice, however it will take you years to truly master the technique. Even then there is still room for improvement.
That's what makes it so rewarding!

Honestly the best thing to do is just go test drive cars. Even if you find a car you really like, don't start negotiating. Think about it and come back. Dealers will do fuckin anything to sell you a car that day so you can't think about it. My friend got fucked into buying a Jetta when he really wanted a GTI.

Unless you're short and have feet like a 12 year old girl, you probably won't fit. My foot literally covered the accelerator and was partially on the brake when I got in one. Not to mention my knees were nearly in my chest.

90s civics are the biggest targets as far as I know. Usually see a few crime alert emails at work and on the UC campus I live at about stolen or broken into cars and they're invariably 90s to early 00s civics. Doesn't matter if they're manual out here either because of demographics.
