Not much into mazda/ford, I tend to go 8 - 10 years between cars. BMW 7 series till 265k, older subaru till 225k, current subaru passing 210k.

OP; All crossovers are the same. They all handle like shit, look like shit, have no advantages over a hatchback (let along a wagon) and as a result of 'muh suv culeture' worse fuel economy and safety

Highly recommend a 4runner.

Excellent light suv platform with wide range of applications. Large after market and tons of online info to DIY maintenance. It can be a 10/10 rock crawling monster or a very safe and reliable daily drive( high crash test safety rating).

I have had mine for 6 years and have never had a SINGLE issue. not one. She peers like a kitten too. Little known fact the 4L v6 1gr-fe engine found in 4th gen 4runners is heavily modded by desert racing teams.

What engine do you have in the forester?
I have a 2005 xt with the 2.5l turbo and i'd never say its truck like.
As far as im aware the new foresters have pretty much the same engines as the old ones.

Like 8 hour days when on holiday, just putting in miles. I know the BMW or Merc would be better at that but then I'm on forest service roads with ruts and washed out bits, the old forester just eats em up and I don't worry about it scraping bushes and what not. Problem is I can't keep the old forester just for those trips, 1 car at a time. Plus forest is about 1 inch more ground clearance.

I have a 2.0 XT from 2000. Bit of drivetrain noises but they pretty much all do that. Other than that I really don't see what's truck like about it. It's basically an Impreza on stilts after all.

mazda cx-3 is fun an in your price range, kind of small but really good

used porsche cayenne, classy as hell, EXTREMELY fun to drive for a crossover and actually pretty reliable in the later years, expensive to service though, i think the later models of the first generation are right inside your price range
