What's wrong with restomodding? It's bringing a car's performance up instead of just restoring with OEM parts. Chip Foose wheels and two-tone paint aren't required.

I would use Japanese "muscle" because American muscle is too big. First gen Celica or C110 Skyline would be neat candidates.

It may not seem much in a country where everything smaller than a Ford Fusion is considered a compact, but there's a distinct difference.

i driven smaller cars aswell, and i have to say i enjoy the bigger muscle cars, i like the weight and mass u feel when ur hauling ass around a corner or just flooring it it adds to the fun.

American cities aren't the standard for cities. By most other world regions' standards even the cities in the US are spread out grid wastelands.

Here in Germany that Charger would stick a foot out of parking spots even if you parked it kissing the wall, and that's just one of many things different to the US.

I'd restomod an american muscle. But I'd restore any old japanese car. They never got their hay day here and it'd be cool to show them in their best working condition.

If I had to restomod any car, it'd obviously be a 69 impala.
I've never seen one in good condition, and nor have I ever seen one a race car.
Making a racecar out of an 18 foot car...
Aww yeah.

You know what the problem is with modern restomods (in general) though? Ugly paint schemes, way too much sponsors on the cars, skinny tires with very little sidewall and flimsy-looking wheels that don't suit the car's muscular appeal.

'69 Olds Vista Cruiser
>EFI + blower on the 455
>8L90 behind it
>all suspension on airbags for extra comfy ride
>stock steelie wheels w/ wide rubber

'70 Mustang Coupe (not fastback
>orange w/ black speed stripes
>all Mach 1 trim added on
>428 CJ + 4 speed Top Loader
>9'' rear end
>stripped, caged interior for two
>bootlegger w/ empty trunk stance

Not a muscle car, but it'd turn it into one:
>W201 190E
>Evo 2 bodykit
>Third gen Hemi, stroked/bored to 426 CI (6.9L)
>add 16V badges on the back (heh)
>T56 transmission, modified W126 rear end

>>14016690
Hell, I'd love to restomod a Superbird.
>start with a Roadrunner as basis
>Superbird conversion
>Hellcat Hemi tuned for E85
>A833 behind it
>Dana 60 stuffed with 4.11 gears
>leafs + trac bars rear, modified torsion bars up front

>when someone restomods an iconic car and swaps an engine with a different layout that sounds completely different
>>
>>14017407
>german muscle
>AMG
>Audi
>BMW
Muscle cars were cheap, fairly average semi-sporty cars stuffed with fuckhuge engines and stripper packages, all in the pursuit of straightline speed and acceleration. A $200,000+ AMG is not a muscle car, it is a sports car.
>>
>>14017346
So basically just don't make it like Chip Foose would make it.
>>
>>14017427
I die a little inside every time I see a V8 swapped T-type or GNX.
>>
>>14017432
Muscle cars were cheap because they were domestically made and the economy was in a raging boner.

German V8's are fucking fantastic to drive high redline and power to follow. I was underwhelmed driving a FR500S mustang desu. My little brothers 2011 S4 made more power and was more fun with the supercharger (did APR pulley, tune, etc.)
>>
>>14017483
I don't give a shit how much power they make or how nice they are to drive, they're sports cars or sport sedans or whatever.
>>
>>14017432
But sportscars are supposed to be a bit ligthand nimble, not overpowered. What do we call high-end, expensive German powerhouses then? Luxury muscle?

>>14017438
Ex-fucking-actly.

>>14017453
It wouldn't that bad when it'd be a single turbo Buick V8, but most are n/a or supercharged Chevy small blocks. Why they wouldn't just pick a regular Regal instead of a rare T-type/GNX is beyond me. I wouldn't feel bad about putting a 455 Buick into a regular Regal for example, and then giving it a GNX treatment (although why do that when you can put a 454 in a Monte Carlo for less, with a better aftermarket for making big power).
>>
>>14017483
(and I totally just realized I sited a v6 3.0 TFSI engine when I was talking about german V8's) but anyways. C63 AMG is goat.
>>
>>14016754
restomods look awful to me 99% of the time

what with all their big wheels to fit modern performance tires and the like

I dont like the idea of modernizing the interior or powertrain either
>>
>>14017432
There are some German cars that could count as being muscle cars, such as the BMW M3 and some Audi performance coupes. Of course, these usually range in the $60,000+ range, but you could also rank that up against the American Muscle cars, the Shelby GT350, Camaro ZL1 and Challenger SRT 392, which are all in the $40,000-50,000 range.

I honestly think there should be different categories of muscle cars, because right now you get stuck between pony cars, the actual muscle GTs of the 60s and 70s, modern muscle, international muscle, and cars from Europe and Japan that could count as muscle cars in their own right.
>>
>>14017489
I think some qualify as luxury muscle desu. I especially think that the Audi RS5 is a muscle car and there is no denying it. 4.2l V8, right over 300 ftlb of tq. 400 HP, only thing really separating it is the price tag and all wheel drive, but its heart (motor) is in the right place.
>>
>>14017516
Sports cars are not muscle cars. Gran tourers are not muscle cars. Yay let's let everybody play with the muscle car name!

No, let's not fuck definitions up even more.
>>
>>14017523
Powerful motor does not a muscle car make. That's a sport saloon. Every fucking v8 or v10 does not mean "muscle car".
>>
>>14017532
Yet even longtime muscle car enthusiasts consider the C2 Corvette and the Monte Carlo to be part of their ranks when they don't really even qualify as muscle cars. The Monte Carlo was a luxury vehicle sold by Chevrolet in the early 70s, and the C2 Corvette was a full-fledged sports car, way more expensive than many of the most revered muscle cars were at the time.

Then you have your modern muscle enthusiasts, many of whom consider the Impala SS and Mercury Marauder to be on that list, even though those are 4 door sedans with a big motor and improved performance. Then again, what was the GTO back in the day?
>>
>>14017532
When the Tempest GTO was first introduced it was marketed as a grand tourer. The high end cars of the late 60s were considered super cars. They even handled pretty well for their size and weight.

In the 50s-early 60s displacement restrictions were made on the smaller sized cars. Only the full sized cars got the big engines. Muscle cars were mid-sized grand touring coupes with the full-size car's engine. The fastest muscle cars were literally detuned race cars. These restrictions no longer exist and safety/emissions has killed off the race cars. Suddenly in the 80s any American car was a muscle car: Mustang/Corvette/Viper/whatever. Now anything with V8 or larger than 5.0L is considered a muscle car because fuck it.
