>While Australia doesn’t exactly lead the world in terms of electric vehicle adoption, five countries are leading the charge (pardon the pun) to a full-scale adoption of electric and alternative fuelled vehicles.

>So far Germany, the United Kingdom, the Canadian state of Quebec, Norway and the Netherlands are all looking at moving to zero emissions vehicles within 35 years, with the UK having set an even earlier target of 2040 for the changeover.

>Initially the Netherlands and Quebec, along with the US state of California announced a Zero-Emission Vehicle Alliance to speed up the adoption of battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles.

>Despite the take-up rate for zero emissions vehicles sitting at just five percent of new vehicles sold in the Netherlands, and a more encouraging 16.6 percent of sales in California, those two jurisdictions lead the world in terms of take up.

Dumb cunts are more worried about their emissions (not industrial emissions) than finding renewable resources to replace depleting resources (e.g alcohol > petrol).

Once we get rid of coal & nuclear power, global warming wont be an issue.
>>
(rough calculations)
Norway; 5 150 000 people, 9000 Teslas
USA; 322 000 000 people, 50 000 Teslas

USA; one Tesla per 6440 persons

How we've come full circle.
>>
>>14016309
Is this the Clarkson fallacy in action? It's not about what makes electricity now, but what CAN make it in the future. Shittons of solar panels, if we ever crack the Thorium reactor, etc, there's your power.

Nigger, if we actually researched and funded nuclear projects other than weaponry, we'd be living in the god damn future by now.

Not really, but we wouldn't be having these climate discussions, or at least not to the extent that we are today.

I just got back from a hiking trip in your country, I've never seen so many Teslas.

Also, you guys are very kind. Everyone I spoke with would help me out, tell me directions, recommend places to eat, etc.

Except the the few Pakistanis I ran into. They were all complete cunts and barely spoke Norwegian, much less English.

99% of norways energy production is hydro electric, the netherlands have tons of renewable energy, Quebec is almost completely hydroelectric (with the exception of a few nuclear power plants)

These countries are leading, and the fuel used to run the cars is renewable.

And if people keep their cars as long as most of you fucks on this board (Hurr durr second hand forever) it will greatly reduce the impact of manufacturing new cars all the time

The world is changing.

If everyone stops making gasoline cars at an earlier date but existing gasoline cars are still allowed on the road, then I'd be happy. Most newer cars don't really appeal to me, and if I was going to buy a new car it would definitely be electric.

how dumb are you that you dont know how supply and demand works?

given the fact that gasoline cars will be banned, its logical to think so will gas stations, meaning you wont be able to fuel your miata

people wont be interested in ICE cars anymore, the market will then become irrelevant, ICE cars will be seen as waste and the goverment will actually give money to the owners to dispose their cars, kinda like cash 4 clunkers, driving the prices down

tl;dr enjoy your literal cvck electric car

Gas and diesel cars, motorcycles, and trucks will still be a thing, but more along the lines of classic cars or 1 off custom builds. They will be something fun for the weekends that people will hold on to because of the good ol days.

Gasoline and diesel will always be available as long as we use oil for plastics and other chemicals. You always get some gas and diesel when you refine crude oil.

im not against electric vehicles. just at the moment the rages are too short. so it has to keep running to the power supply like a crackhead. and their arent enough charge points yet to go around
>>
>>14017958
but before the goverment starts recalling the cars, the market price will drop
as easy as offering a miata owner 100 more dollars than c4c, that way you will buy them druing the time period where cars become the cheapest
>>
>>14017975
Once it's to the point where they have better efficiency and power than gasoline, I am absolutely for them. What's not to like?

I still enjoy my gasoline vehicles, and it's ridiculous to think the US (outside of shithole CA) would ban them.
>>
>>14018001
they wont ever ban them, there's no need to once EV range and charging access makes them superior to ICE for the average joe

and the entire point is to convert the average joe to EV, they don't give a shit about enthusiasts since they make up such a tiny portion of the market, there's no need to ban that. that's like banning motorcycles which nobody will do.

Negative. Internal combustion engines and the cars that use them will always have a place in the garage of the hobbyist and enthusiast. If anything, gasoline powered cars will only benefit from this transition by directing to the people who enjoy them rather than because they are necessary. Alternative fuels will be developed to allow them to stay running, which is already happening, and if anything it will be the so mentioned "good" cars that people hang on to. In 2050, nobody is going to be pining about how they wish they could own a 2004 toyota corolla.
>>
>>14019918

True all of that but keep in mind that humans being the weird fuckers we all are, somebody out there fell in love with just about every shit car ever made so random odd examples of most every model will survive.

But overall I'm in complete agreement with you. These cars will make it possible for the enthusiast to extend the life of his favorite car for decades longer.

>>14017738
Yeah well how do you justify the rest of the world, where there are countries that almost completely rely on fossil fuels for power and they will because changing is fucking expenaive. It's easy to say everything gon be aight when it isn't feggit. I think the future relies more in nuclear, hydrogen and high power hydroelectric damss, which with proper maintenance can last for a couple hundred years, when things like a solar panels luckily get to its 20's delivering less than a half of the power it did when new
>>
>>14017778
Most fleet trucks/work equipment are already worked on by spacialist mechanics. It's not the 50s anymore, you don't just take your tractor around the corner to old mate earl and he patches it back together with some fencing wire. In 2015 your tractor gets a fault, it self diagnoses the fault and reports back to its local service agent via inbuilt telematic device.

Well a huge part of the reason it's so popular in Norway is because of taxes. When a Tesla is literally cheaper than a conventional luxury car, you'd be stupid not to go with one. Cars in Norway have like a 50 or 80% tax or something insane like that. They waive that, and allow you to drive in carpool/bus lanes, and waive a bunch of other registration fees.

Add on a really good traction control system on an AWD vehicle in an icy hellhole and it's not hard to see why the car is selling.
>>
>>14017778
>Pay certified mechanic 200$/h due to electrical fault you are not allowed to diagnose yourself thanks to DRM
Which would be extremely rare because electric motors are not unreliable, complex turds like ICEs are.
>>

Nuclear power is a very clean alternative to coal and fossil fuels though.
