NSX
>rear wheel drive
>lightwight
>manual
>naturally aspirated
>italian design

This thing
>AWD
>heavy
>automatic
>twin turbo
>modern edgy bullshit

You could maybe argue that it's trying to honor the originals perfomance and revolutionary status, but it isn't doing anything new (LaFerrari/918/P1/E-Tron) and looks nothing alike.

Is anyone actually interested in this thing?

Honda likes to copy others like a decade late.
>S2000 = MX5
>NSX Mk1 = Ferrari 348
>NSX Mk2 = GTR

They just use whatever previous nameplates with no contiguous theme or design target. It's just like whatever was popular 10yrs ago, that's what they copy. No integrity whatsoever.

Faster than the miata and Ferrari for their time, new Nsx is faster 0-60 than the GTR

Honda's takes the good things and improves them while keeping things reasonably priced, how is there a downside to that unless your just a insufferable cunt

You know what I respect? People with balls. People with the gravitas and skill to break new ground and truly be innovative. You know what I don't respect? Copying an entire package, an entire spirit of something that has existed for years and has earned it's respect, and fiddling with it. Even worse, is fiddling with something successful and that isn't yours and then forcing people to pay you the extra overhead on how inefficient and indulgent your efforts at copying were. That's very offensive to me.

>Is anyone actually interested in this thing?

Yes, lots of people as it turns out.

Bringing back Acura's halo car after ten years of absence obviously has people looking forward to it, and it is still a sharp looking sports car. It's a good addition to the modern Japanese Supercar lineup that includes the late Lexus LFA and the Nissan GTR.

Not to mention that Acura needs this car badly, because their brand image has been suffering since before the recession, and many people still know Acura as Honda's luxury sport brand with old models like the Integra under its belt.
>>
>>14013375
It's a cool car as in it looks cool but that is all. Mind you the old NSX was also modern and edgy.

>>14013382
There is nothing experimental about it. It's old news, it isn't exciting like the old NSX was.

>>14014424
This isn't the car that will bring Acura back. They needed something great, this is just ok - which is why it has been in the prototype phase for so long. They can't get the power-train right. Acura has no idea what this car should be, that's why they've changed the power-train almost five times.
>>
>>14013375
>>AWD
Not a bad thing. E-AWD allowing torque vectoring is always good.
>>heavy
That's a hybrid system for you. It overcomes it's weight though - and would be hilariously expensive if they used advanced materials to combat that weight.
>>automatic
Who cares - you can't expect a manual hybrid in 2015, and you certainly can't expect a manual car in this price bracket.
>>twin turbo
That's not a bad thing. The rear electric motor completely negates any lag, making the lack of throttle response turbo's usually offer not much of a problem.
>>modern edgy bullshit
Eye of the beholder.

>but it isn't doing anything new (LaFerrari/918/P1/E-Tron).
First of, the E-trons are either a concept, or a plugin hybrid A3. Not new at all.
Second, yes, it doesn't try and hang with the hypercar trinity of 918/P1/LaF. But that's not a bad thing. It's cut the price of a hybrid sportscar from about a million to around 150.000 dollars. If that isn't a significant thing in itself, then I don't know what is.
>and looks nothing alike.
And it shouldn't.

Just look at the only other hybrid 2 door sportscar in the 100-200 thousand dollar range - the i8. If you can't see that the NSX is a gamebreaker in that very segment, I don't know what would make one instead.
>>
>>14013463
GTR is true pigfat though, with nothing like torque vectoring, hybrid AWD, or torque fill to go for it.

>>14015618
>There is nothing experimental about it
Maybe about the layout, but it's all quite new to Honda, and to be quite honest, that kind of hybrid sportscar, at that pricepoint, is a new thing for the entire consumer market as well.
>Acura has no idea what this car should be
They had a clear idea, a FR V10 sportscar (probably LFA meets S2000), but than the financial crisis hit, forcing them back to a midmounted V6. They wanted to stay transverse, but they wanted more power, and turbo packaging on a transverse V6 is a nightmare. So al in all, they went through three drivetrain layouts:
>Front-mid engined V10
>hybrid, naturally aspirated transverse V6
>hybrid, twinturbo longitudinal V6

>>14015679
(cont.)
The thing I'm worried about most is driver feedback. Apparently, with how the thing currently drives, Senna would be rolling around furiously in it's grave. The torque vectoring works great, the chassis and suspension is highly adaptible, the rear electric motor fills the turbo lag great, the gearbox works good - but driver feedback is bad, according to a few reviews.

Problem is that they went full drive-by-wire, with regenerative braking to boot. They've got about a year to sort it all out, and maybe they can implement some software changes after that ( a la Tesla) to make sure the driver involvement becomes great. Fortunately, the basics are there - adaptible suspension, a great chassis etc. - it's just a matter of finetuning it. Let's hope they succeed.

Also, I'm a bit worried. If you can squeeze 400hp out of a turbo'd K20, how much power are the Honda fanboys going to squeeze out of a twinturbo 3.5L V6? Will we be seeing 1000hp AWD NSX'es at that same 3800lbs kerb weight?

It's the same as the Lexus fags that think their fucking cars are hot shit, when Mercedes made the same car 3 years before.

>The original performance target for the NS-X was the Ferrari 328, which was revised to the 348 as the design neared completion.

hmmmmmm that's what I get for trying to be nice to the Honda and mentioning only the more modern Ferrari instead of explicitly stating that Honda took so long with their copying that they had changed the copy model from the 1985 328 to the concurrently developed Ferrari 348. But now that you've prompted me to make this statement, I'll make sure to explicitly mention, in honour of the copying, that Honda also LOVES COPYING OTHERS CONCURRENTLY DEVELOPED CONCEPTS TOO while using their Accord profits to match/beat them to market. True snakes. No integrity, no honor.
No shame either since they so much Accord profit money to hire online shills to brainwash and hammer "Honda" into unsuspecting anons heads, like every other scumbag Jew automoaker who cares only about profits, publicity and PR than motoring.

It really isn't new for a company that has been producing hybrids for a long time now.

They can't keep waiting to produce this car because every couple of years a new trend introduces itself
>originally wanted to offer a cheaper LFA
waited too long for that. Honestly they could still release a V10 with great sales figures, but they won't because it goes against the companies values.
>hybrid 6 AWD
On paper this is great. Wonderful, and amazing. But tick tock, we've been waiting for a while. Buzz dies down and people move on.

Forgot "designed in Ohio"
Why the fuck would the most legendary Japanese exotic super car be designed in Ohio. Fucking Ohio. Any state would have been better than Ohio. I would've rather seen a Texas NSX than an Ohio NSX. FUCK

It should have been this. V10, front engine, naturally aspirated, fairly lightweight, drivers car and released in 2010. Instead we get a hybrid GTR. There is nothing wrong with a hybrid GTR, I'm sure it will be very fast, but there is something wrong with a hybrid GTR being the NSX.
