Weighs 400 pounds, aftermarket parts can bring that down ~10%, and also capable of making more power than you could ever use. When you realize that the amount of power the engine can make is not the limiting factor of your car, the LS makes a lot less sense.

13B is better because rotary engines are cooler. Better weigh distribution than any other form of engine, and can still make plenty of power. A 13B-REW with bigger turbos or single turbo and street ports can make over 500whp easy. Not near as much as a 2JZ but in a 2700lb Rx7 that is way more than you need.

13B-REW weighs around 400lbs stock, some say a little more or less. Converting to single turbo helps with the weight, around 25lbs. The block alone weighs under 200lbs, but with everything it gets heavy. Even at 400lbs it's still a 200lbs difference from a 2jz, and the V160 is much heavier than Mazdas transmission. With trans the 2JZ is somewhere over 700lbs, while the 13B-REW is still under 500lbs.

The 400 pound number is for the entire drivetrain. That includes 70 pounds of transmission, 20 pounds of powerplant frame, 20 pounds of exhaust, etc.

An LS bare block weighs double what a 13B bare block does. Why would you be considering attaching smog controls and cast iron manifolds to one engine but not the other?

That number does not include the entire drivetrain. It includes intake manifold, exhaust manifold, turbos, intercooler and maybe the radiator. Not the transmission.

I never mentioned the LS engine, I don't know what your point is. LS with transmission is way heavier than the 13B with transmission anyways.

What? They're as you see them there on the stands. The 13B has a box below it resting on the stand with the alternator, intake manifold, clutch, and flywheel.

Well, this is well under 300 pounds with everything you see in the picture, plus everything listed in >>14010960. Keep in mind that this is on a steel engine stand, as well. Unfortunately I don't have a spring scale to give a precise number, but I can assure you it's significantly less than the 400 lb 4 banger next to it.

I'm sure it is under 300lbs with everything in the picture. The short block itself weighs like 150lbs, and the engine in the picture looks like it is mostly the shortblock with a turbo, flywheel, turbo manifold and some oil lines.
