I have no experience with the XT, but I don't see why vibration would be a big factor for you. The long distance riding thing, eh, I never rode more than 60 miles round trip but I can tell you that they are comfortable as hell. They call them hooligan bikes and that's how I use mine. From the minute I take it out to when I put it away I am wheelieng, jumping curbs, going on grass. If I gotta go fast, I use the GSXR and take the highway. Very user friendly and easy to get used to. You hear that they say they are like riding mountain bikes with big engines on them. That's exactly what they feel like.

Unless your commute is entirely Autobahn or straight country roads, a Supermoto is great fun.
The XT660X is not a bad bike but not a good Supermoto.
A bit heavy, a bit slow and not very well suspended.

For ultimate flexibility with regards to use, get a standard/naked.
You can get an SV650 in great condition and throw on a nice aftermarket exhaust for 4000€.
It will serve you well in all scenarios and be fun too.

I had a CBF500 and recently got an SV650. Its fine for just exploring rural areas where you wouldn't go full wot anyway, on longer journeys it feels wanting as its somewhat breathless after 70mph, but it will get up to 110mph.

You'll still be beating cars at the lights but you might get bored after a while like I did.

I am planning to start my 3 month praktikum+3 monts bachelor thesis at the end of january next year so I will hopefully will finish my study just before the sem. I think it will be awesome having almost infinite time for them sem. Really looking forward to this year.
