But most of ID has its basis in reality; hell, for the original series the technical director making sure everything was reasonable was Keiichi Tsuchiya himself. Dagumi's crazy drift stuff is all descended from rallying- the Scandinavian flicks, hooking into the inside corner of the road, etc.

It's just as the series went on, Shigeno ran out of stuff to write about that he hadn't already so he started pulling bullshit out his dick hole.

Keiichi Tsuchiya and another racer race an R34 GTR and win with AE86s. Granted, they aren't stock AE86s, but the 7AGE Tsuchiya has is still down by about 100 hp compared to the GTR.

The D is real. Point is, benchracing is in no way definitive. Driving skill is surprisingly a factor.
