I think this might be why American cars get this stigmatism of bad engines.

Either it's a huge, durable engine making small power, or its a small engine making good power but not as durable.

Eurokeks spew their hp/L memes for the former, and for the latter, we're used to the big durable things. We* treat the small ones the same; oil changes only when they change owners and replace stuff only when it makes the engine stop turning. Doesn't work for high strung small engines, and they get the reputation as fragile.

(* refers to general public. You know this to be true, whether it applies to you specifically or not).

Id love to see a report on Reliability vs Ownership Cost (ie: amount of breakdowns and issues vs amount of money spent on regular maintenance). Bet you "American" engines would come out on top.
