I got a guy on Craigslist saying he wants to rent my car for $500 a month for 5-9 months because he's just moving to my city. He says he's going to get a writing agreement from his attorney for us to do the deal. Is there any chance of this being legit?
>>
>>13998217
No
>>
Don't even think about it.
>>
no. tell him to talk to enterprise or national if he wants a rental.
>>
Just delete any email that isn't asking to see your car in person and pay you in cash / bank draft.
>>
>>13998217
>selling shit on CL
>get a text asking about it's condition and what not
>have a picture of it in great detail

>they ask me if I can ship it and they will paypal me
Not today fuckers.

Heh how do people actually fall for this bullshit? Even if there wasn't anything about PayPal, I wouldn't even respond to a text written like that.

>>13998217
Nope. Nope. Nope.
>>
>>13998217
he's totally not going to steal your car and sell it off
>>
>>13998884
>>13998878
If you were to just give him your e-mail you use for PayPal, is there anything that could even be done with it? I'm just trying to figure out the next step in this scam.

My guess would be he pays you and either grabs the part directly or makes you ship it, and them disputes it or something so the money disappears.
>>
>>13998217
I rented a car for 3 weeks from Enterprise on my insurances dime. Total cost was 1500 dollars.
>>
>>13998967
If you receive the money as a service or product it's not so easily disputed. I buy shit on NASIOC that way. Per forum rules You can't send the money as a gift.

FUCK OFF
>>
>>13999017
I almost pissed myself from this picture.
>>
>>13999049
You would think for 700 someone would buy it if only for parts.

Also OP your an idiot if you do this. If it's in your name, and he gets in an accident insurance is going to be iffy. So you sign it over.... then you have the problem of ensuring he pays in full and returns it which he might not have a legal obligation to do. Also what if he blows the engine or something, who's responsibility then?

If he's not an idiot he would buy a 1500$ beater and dump it for dirt cheap so it's gone quick when he's done. I've done it before when living in places for only a few months. I bought for 1500 sold it the day I put it up for 1200. Another time I bought for $1400 and sold it the day I posted for $1150. Good cheap cars with no problems will always be easily sellable.

I know right? The car runs just won't shift into fourth gear. Can't wait to get rid of it finally.
>>
>>13999150
Im,confused why youre harrassing him for wanting to buy through PayPal? As long as he pays as good or service and you prove he's received it youre in the clear.
>>
>>13999212
One of the biggest rules on Craigslist is to never accept Paypal deals. They're almost always scams.
>>
>>13999227
I never used paypal because lol, fuck that, but isn't there an option to rollback any pay up to about a week or so?

And why would anybody want to pay in ADVANCE of getting a car? Its like offering yourself to get scammed lmao, makes no sense so its gotta be a scammer
>>
>>13998217
Go for it. What's the worst that could happen?
>>
>>13999249
Yeah cash or nothing on there for sure. When I was NEET as fuck I tried to fix PCs through CL and ran into a pretty interesting scam.

>hey I'm gonna send you a bunch of laptops to format Windows on
>I'll mail a check to pay for the shipping, you keep $X, and return $X and pay to ship them back when you're done
>"OK"

Nigga sent a counterfeit check for over $5000.

He wanted me to cash the check and use that money to pay for shipping the laptops to me, fix them, then ship them back and keep the rest for myself. It was pretty stupid but I was curious how far it would have gone.

Yeah man, it's a scam. I don't know how exactly they do it, but basically you get the money in your PayPal account, they take whatever you're selling, then the money doesn't clear the bank for whatever reason. It's the modern version of the "cashier cheque" scam.
>>

I still don't get it, but bare with me, we don't use checks here

So its a counterfeit check but you can still cash it or?
>>
>>13999306
They pay with fraudulent accounts which are later charged back also
>>
>>13999319
Why do you assume they are muslims and not respectable gentlemen of african descent?

Say TrayTray deserved it next time
>>
>>13999326
My bank learned it was fake but I'm sure whoever sent it was hoping it would be cashed so I would send him money.

It did kind of look like a legit check. Whoever sent it was wanting me to take the risk of trying to cash it.
>>
>>13999331
I'm sure all of those stolen or whatever paypal accounts on deep web markets have something to do with this
>>
>>13999343
Oh now I get it, he sends you a check with which you're supposed to pay for laptop shipments and send back the rest, right?

But what if the check had cleared and you didn't give him shit back?
>>
>>13999351
I guess at that point he was hoping I was gullible enough to send the money over to ship the laptops that didn't exist.

I received a lot of emails from different email addresses asking me the same thing typed in the same format. I took the bait with one just to see what would happen.
>>
>>13999336

Oh I'm sure they're all respectable honor students... in their home country of Nigeria. Working the Al Quaeda Craigslist call-centers they have over there is probably the closest to white collar employment they're going to get.
>>
>>13999366
So he sent you the check first, wanted you to cash it, send the money back to him before he ever even sent any of the laptops? Or did he send the check with some laptops? If it is the first part, you really have to be a sucker to go through with any of that.
>>
>>13999376
Got the check in the mail first. Next he wanted me to pay for the shipping by sending a portion of the money as a money order to an address he gave me. The rest was for me to keep and the laptops would be sent then. It's a real weird scam. I knew it was fish from the start but I wanted to see how far it went.

Not sure if funny or sad
>>
>>13999394
That's funny. Obvious scam, but I see what you mean. Give it a try to see if you can somehow catch him halfway through. Like somehow the check does clear and just pocket it. But how people fall for something like that is beyond me.

I've dealt with too many drug dealers and junkies to not see something like that from a mile away.
>>
>>13999409
Yeah I eventually gave up the whole computer repair thing because that scam showed up so often. People must be falling for it because 90% of my replies were of that scam.

But man if that check cleared I would totally be running away with that money. I would have used a PO Box or an empty house's address, though. You know, just in case.
>>
>>13999372
Wait aren't you in the US? Are there really that many muslims there?

Also for real, you should try telling them about trayvon, make sure to share the hilarious results here and probably watch out for any attempted drive-by if you know what I mean
>>13999409
>>13999420
This seems like a flimsy scam to be honest, although I can imagine there are people gullible enough to send the money back if the check clears

Also lol@ formatting windows, who the fuck isn't capable of at least doing that by themselves?

I posted this, with this picture, in the parts section to part it out, and got multiple emails asking how it drives and if the registration is current. I reply to about 10% of emails on craigslist these days, it's pretty obvious if it's going to be someone just wasting time and even if it isn't better safe than sorry. I don't understand why people will make an offer, or worse make an offer and a meeting time, then just flake, what is going through these morons heads.
