Depends on preference and where you live.
I live in LA where traffic is absolutely terrible, bumper to bumper most of the time.
That said, i still DD a manual. However there are some days when i wish i had an auto.

My one friend always rolls blunts while driving the 5spd. That's always impressive to watch.

But if it's DD and you aren't a manual fanboi, one of those Tiptronic or flappy paddles are the way to go. Especially if it is a DSG or some similar automated manual. You can still feel like Dagumi on the weekends.

Here in England the vast majority of cars are manual.
I ride a motorbike most of the time.
My car is a manual
But I drive an automatic van for work.

Personally I find having an automatic at work takes some of the pressure off when you are trying to do things like find an address, talk on the phone and read the satnav at the same time. It's also great for traffic jams as I just have to wiggle the brake pedal to move forward.

For super happy fun time driving I have to have a manual though otherwise it's boring.

Serious question time: at McDonald's in Europe, do the majority of people use the drive thru or do they eat inside? Barely anybody goes inside in the US. If I were to actually eat my food at McDonald's and not while driving or bringing it home, I would rather eat in my car in the parking lot instead of going inside.

I'd say a lot of people use the drive through, but these are always at roadside locations where people will grab food on the way home or whatever. City locations of course don't have a drive-through so will be full of people.

Personally I'd also rather eat in my car, before we had kids me and the gf would always get McDs breakfast after getting shitfaced on a sunday morning and just sit in the car eating it.

The question is not automatic vs. manual. The question is clutch vs. torque converter, and the answer is clutch.
Modern automatics shift much faster than any human, despite what racerboi faggots might say. The issue is torque converters result in power loss, and computers are terrible at choosing when to shift, so 99% of automatics are shittier than a manual.
If we're being objective, dual clutch > sequential manual > manual > automatic with user gear selection > automatic. Dual clutch is the only automatic that can outweigh the fun of a manual IMO, dem shifts are completely unnoticeable.
