What's wrong with the C7 Z06? I've seen you guys talk about the overheating problem related to where the oil cooler is versus the catalytic converter, but, is there something else?

The front grille is tiny as fuck and basically it gets no airflow.

Ah okay.

The thing that is really strange to me about the car is there is so much downforce on the back with that black "tail" on the back, but I don't see how the front can match it. That thing sticks straight up.
>>
>>13990317
>so much downforce
>2" ductail
I would not at all be surprised to find out that the splitter makes more downforce than that.
>>
>>13990339
I donno, seems like that would cause a whole bunch in the back, but I'm sure you are right and they have it figured out.

It takes a lot of spoiler to make meaningful downforce. It actually doesn't take much splitter to balance out a monster wing. Clean air is magical like that.
>>
>>13990363
Makes sense. I noticed it is adjustable (my boss has a huge car collection), it's on the bottom notch now but it can be like 4" higher than they show it. It also came with some side skirts he keeps off of it (I guess for clearance reasons).

The plastic pieces on the car like the air inlets and that ductail look really cheap. I guess it is a cheap car compared to others in its' class though. It's got a good presence though, really strong looking.
>>
>>13990363
>>13990346
Here's a balanced wing and splitter, for reference. Wing is an APR GT-250.
>>
>>13990403
Yeah but that is an airfoil in the back, the one on the corvette is more like a speedbrake on an airplane.
>>
>ebin
>>
>>13990408
Wings make significantly less drag than spoilers for a given amount of downforce. A spoiler that made as much downforce as that wing would double the car's Cd.

So why didn't they use a wing instead of a spoiler?

Because it would cost more and make old men buttmad about nipshit rice on their murrikamobile.

Porsche GT3/2 cars seem to look non-nip with their wings, but, I see your point.

That's my main gripe with the car, it looks good from far, but when you get up close it looks cheap as shit. If you push on the side air dam just a bit it flexes a ton, the interior is really hoaky, etc.
>>
>>13990490

They'll never do anything wrong again if they follow this business strategy.

Because they wanted the air spoiled.

Also, /o/ needs to lern 2 gurney flap
>>
>>13990504
Reading about it now. I understand how it would increase downforce, but don't understand why it would increase top speed?

Wikipedia (History section first paragraph):
>"He field tested it and found it allowed a car to negotiate turns at higher speed, while also achieving higher speed in the straight sections of the track."

I have see things like vortex generators to try to keep flow attached to wings and such, and that sort of makes sense to me so I get how creating turbulence can sometimes help if done with just the right combination.
>>
>>13990495
Pretty sure the GT2RS and GT3 "wings" are actually just spoilers to reduce drag (read up on the Kamm effect to see how this works), rather than a airfoils. The difference is whether there's actually airflow below it, which is hard to say without CFD or wind tunnel pictures.
>>
>>13990569
They help push air into the negative pressure behind the car?

Will look that up, thanks (moved to mobile)
>>
>>13990530
Either higher corner exit speeds or reducing drag at extreme angles of attack where severe flow separation is occurring.

I can't really find a good graphic of how it works, but basically there's a certain shape you want the back half of the car to be to give you the least drag. A spoiler can change the shape of the car aerodynamically without changing it visually, so you can have low drag aero without compromising your body lines.

No and I'd be surprised if that oil cooler bullshit was even true. Programming is the real issue. These things have 100,000 mile warranties.
>>
>>13990643
There have been pictures posted pointing out where this is an issue, but yeah I remember reading GMs response saying something programming related was the problem for Car and Driver. Like it was too sensitive or something. I can't remember.
>>
>>13990670
>There have been pictures posted pointing out where this is an issue
A picture won't tell you anything.
>Like it was too sensitive or something. I can't remember.
It pulls timing very quickly. Tuning companies have noted this and also said that cooling performance is fine.

Thanks. You can see how in the first video, there's laminar flow both over and under the airfoil; that's a proper wing. The second video directs all of the laminar flow over the top, so it's a spoiler leveraging the Kamm effect. Now the question is, does air flow under the wing on the GT2RS?
>>
>>13990746
Why would you want lift? (A wing)

Wings on cars are airplane wings mounted upside down. They give negative lift. Notice that airplanes have airflow on both sides of the wing. That's what makes it work.
