I am really confused because of different opinions about AR. I want to buy alfa romeo GT. Are they really so shitty? Do you have an experience with them? I would be glad to hear some story from the GT owner.

I would totally drive an Alfa if they were in the US. It seems like an Italian VW or Chrysler. The cars have some character, look good, and are nice to drive. Then the warranty expires.
>>13988709
They are great cars, don't listen to the muh FCA is shit meme
>>13988725
Don't you dare compare the Superior and Mighty Alfa Romeo to some ridiculous German shitbox
>>13988709
Brera's are far nicer,
>>13988709
If I were to get a sports car it would have to be RWD.

fuck off yellow Punto anon

goddamn it looks good

ex-GT owner here, which version are you considering op?
In a nutshell, 2.0JTS (I used to own) is a shit tier engine due to direct injection, carbon build up kills the engine power gradually but in a fast pace. At 35K kms all piston rings had to be changed and upper block was in a desperate need of cleaning up. Dyno output was about 130hp instead of factory claimed 165hp.
3.2v6 is a much better choice due to its conventional design although power/displacement ratio is not great. 1.9jtd is a bit easier to power up with bolt-ons and even piggybacks due to turbo, but it is a noisy coal burner with no rev&joy after all..
>>13989416
I haven't driven one, but the acceleration figures are pathetic even for the top model

>be alfa romeo
>make the car look angry
>give the chance of having a twin turbo V6
>FWD
WAKE ME UP INSIDE

thanks, i am concidering 1.9 jtd. I am not looking for sports car.The most interesting for me is how it is to drive it daily, is there some things which should be checked especially before purchase? do you recommand this car after all? what about reliability?
>>13989469
..it also requires a few suspension and chasis mods to be enjoyable, obviously after you change every suspension part bearing rubber compenents, which I did. Bilstein B4 or B6 shocks combined with eibach springs and good rubber on the rims go a long way but also induce even moar understeer. Max fun factor is limited by vsa that you can not turn off and it does interfere. A one piece strut bar is a must, which is also a sign of lacking chasis rigidity.
>>13989494
It is not a reliable car, I knew I had to baby it or else it would break, but it broke anyways. However it has a silent interior, most trims come with a quality bose stereo system, automated dual zone air conditioner and other comfort shit. It also rides quite comfy on stock suspension setup. I don't know if jtd version is available with the selespeed tranny but this also tends to break, so be warned.
Try to find one with low mileage and no accident history, be prepared to change many suspension components like I said before and hope that diesel engine lasts longer than its suspension (which is not the case for jts).
Driving feels are moar intense than brera.

I am glad to hear some real GT owner's opinion.
I am not hiding the fact that this is a rather cheap car, which offers much more than german shitboxes. It is also great looking for me, but I do not want a car which will cost me much after purchase. So the question is:
Is it good daily? or rather requiers a special treatment? I know parts aren't expensive - what about AR infamous reliability? Is it really that bad?
>>13989539
>I knew I had to baby it
>shows the car covered with snow
jej
>>13989539
I know that selespeed are shit. I prefer manual anyway. What was the biggest failure you have to dealt with?
>>13989549
I forgot to mentions how resilient it is to weather conditions, thanks for pointing out.
>>13988709
if you want reliability they are shitty. otherwise they are good cars (apart from lol fwd)
>>13989446
took the words out of my mouth
>>13989486
it has awd
>>13989570
what do you drive now?
would you buy gt again?
>>13989544
I would not suggest GT as a cheap reliable dd. It's rather a money pit and looks alone is not worth it. One should own it as an adventure if not super wealthy.
>>13989613
My current dd is a 97 4ws autotragic prelude. way better in terms of reliability, driving feels and a bit faster as well.
I would not buy any version of GT again since I think one can reach limits of its chasis (and vds) even with 2.0 motor power.
>>13989562
see >>13989469 engine power loss and failure at 35K kms but that was jts specific. Some use catch cans as a retardant for such failures.
>>13989673
I know about issues with gasoline JTS, that's why I concider JTD fiat engine. But when you said that this is a real money pit.. I am not sure. What problems did you have besides the engine?

All suspension components with rubber parts required replacing and not a single bush is replacable, you have to buy whole wishbones and sway bars, front and rear degrade about the same time. Even springs have a lifetime of 5 years.
sometimes electronics on canbus channel assume direct control and lamps don't last. Interior trim starts to show its age with peeling plastics and rattling sounds, so does any leather wearing a bit quicker than expected. I have witnessed many steering wheel changes due to wear. I could say overall build quality is on par with hyundai.
Unfortunately I don't know much about jtd s but I know they are noisier and build carbon at a bit faster rate than their european peers.
I should mention I like my cars in as new condition, so I might have overworked on maintenance. And also these cars are prone to torque steer, which you might not care/experience.
>>13989908
I will take your advises under consideration. I think I will be looking for some GT in proper condition. We will se if I find one.
>>13990118
Good luck, hope you find a good example and get the most out of it.
