How do drivers know how far from the left they need to be to hit the apex with absolute efficiency?

Also this. Gut gid.

This

They also study the tracks extensively before races
>>
>>13988671
huh? as in how do they understand the width of their car? experience and natural awareness.

Whats trail braking. Do you brake and trail off into the sunset with your life partner as queen plays in the background
>>
First off you study the track from aerial photos, video games, youtube, etc before you even get there.

first laps on the track you get the general feel of the lines and potential passing zones. this doesn't take more than a lap or two. just experience.

the rest of the practice session(s) will be finding the limit of the lines and working on lines. Most lines are not really up for debate, but with tricky diamond double apex corners and things like that you try multiple different approaches and use split times to find the fastest. the fastest line isn't always the best though during an actual race depending on if you need to be defensive or offensive.

also you'll be searching for grip using different lines to find the fastest. especially if it has rained recently or there was some faggy drift event.

you'll also be analyzing which corners can be sacrificed for others depending on where the passing zones are. that also extends to your setup.

basically it's just experience and practice. sometimes after the entire weekend you're still fine tuning lines and on the drive home wishing you had tried something different in x corner.

t. i drive and had a lot of races at tracks i wasn't able to test at beforehand because im not a trustfund baby

Use the entire width of the road. An experienced driver will be leaving inches when attacking at 10/10.

Learn the track. Your braking, turn in, degree of trail braking, line choice, and throttle/windout point are all determined by the characteristics of the track. Watch videos, get taught by an instructor, and generally find whatever it takes to get that next hundredth faster.

who /acceleratethroughcorners/ here?
>>
>>13988671
You need to be all the way to the left. Use the whole track.
>>
>>13991010
only shitters who brake too much do this
>>
Always start as wide as you can
You can tell when the corner opens up so it doesn't matter

you dont coast into corners you little shit

They've driven the car and the track so much that they know it instinctively.

No, anyone can drive a car through a corner and around an apex properly.

It's not even about efficiency.

Racing is about who is the most consistent and can make up for their mistakes.

You won't find a 24 hour winner that hasn't ran off in the dirt and doesn't have a few dings.

What? I mean there's evidence that it works right there, but, I mean, you're applying torque to your brakes, how does this improve behavior on the track?

>OPs pick is formula 1

Drivers know and study the track for days and weeks. They know each and every turn, they know how they're going to tackle them in advance and they have help from the intercom.
>>
>>13991287
There's a difference between michael schumacher in a F1 car and you in a civic.

Basically, it allows him to balance the car in the corner, and it also means that he will get his power faster than someone who isnt doing it.
